Expanded tone, sensitivity, and output without muddiness.

The Joe Barden HB Two/Tone Bridge Pickup is a full-sized dual blade humbucker pickup designed for players who are looking for the maximum amount of tone, sensitivity and output, without being saddled with an inherently distorted or muddy-sounding humbucker. The HB Two/Tone provides incredible low-end clarity and overall high sustain characteristics that make it suitable for virtually any musical style, from blues to rock to jazz.

The HB Two/Tone is an additional refinement of the HB pickup. The HB Two/Tone was designed to be the ultimate pickup for Hum/Single/Single or Hum/Single/Hum guitars, as it is literally two pickups in one: you get the HB (humbucker) tone when the pickup is in full mode, and when you hit the switch (a DPDT mini-switch or push/pull pot), the tone and output change to that of an single-coil-sounding S-Deluxe, so that in combination with the middle pickup, you get the perfect "in-between" sound. There is no switching noise and no hum in either mode. The HB Two/Tone is available for both neck and bridge positions.

The design is a complete improvement over any kind of series/parallel or split-coil wiring, as it gives you the same tone and output level as the S-Deluxe. Many musicians have told Joe that the HB Two/Tone is like a Strat pickup that turns itself into a humbucker (Or, a humbucker that can turn itself into a single-coil-sounding pickup - but without the noise normally introduced by coil splitting of a standard humbucker)

The HB Two/Tone fits into standard humbucker body routs with no modifications to the instrument. HB Two/Tone pickups use 6 conductor shielded cable and are supplied with wiring diagrams and mounting hardware to facilitate installation.

    Unique Pick-ups

Comments about Joe Barden Pickups HB Two/Tone Bridge Pickup:

To be exact I have the HB Two/Tone set. Got these from fee-bay for a good price, used but never installed. I wrote a review on the T Style previously so this will be a few comments on the differences. I installed these in a Les Paul. Big change over the stock pick-ups. Installed push/pull pots to be able to switch to a 'single coil' sound...the fact is in single coil mode it is still a humbucker that sounds like a single coil. The advantage is they are dead quiet in either mode and there is almost no volume drop when switched. When in single mode they sound like the "S Deluxe" pick-ups. In Humbucker mode the are very clear, hi-fi' as described. These are 'different' compared to a normal humbucker, you can hear your guitar, your fingers, what you play is what you get. They make you want to play and play better, they don't tolerate sloppiness, they will bring out your flaws, which will end up making you a better player. Other pickups color the tone which is good if that's what you like. I have other Les Pauls if I get the urge for that sound. I think most of my play time will be with the Bardens though. My next project will be to get the S-Deluxe Strat HSH 3-Pickup Set, very pricey but I think these would make the ultimate guitar. Convert both volumes and tone controls to push/pull pots. Use two for splitting the humbuckers, one for adding an option to turn on neck and bridge pickup together, and the fourth one for a phase switch if you like that sort of thing. What you will have is a Strat with the coils split, Tele with the neck and bridge together, Les Paul in humbucker mode with bridge and neck together...Maybe the ultimate guitar.
