Comments about John Pearse Acoustic Armrest:
I would and did recommend this product to my friends. It looks nice on the guitar and performs well. There are two things I would caution you on. The first is to be careful where you put it. The armrest is designed to be a permanent fixture on your guitar. If you're not sure about that then this product might not be for you. The second is to take the time to measure out where you want it. JP has a website and you can download and print out the size you want and place the paper version on your guitar first to get a feel of where you want it to go. I used a water soluble marker to mark where I wanted mine then stuck it in place. The cut out might even help you decide if you like the look of it before you order. Hope it helps and keep pickin'
It's amazing that something so simple in design can have such an impact on the sound and comfort of your instrument while playing
I chose Rosewood to match my guitar. The tape on the back which is what you use to adhear it to the guitar was hangin over the ends a little. A sharp razor blade and 5 minutes fixed it right up. Aside from that the wood has a nice finish and it looks great.
It does what it says which allows you to play more comfortably and increase the volume.
They claim 15-20% more volume to be exact but I don't know if I bleieve that. I really bought it for the comfort aspect which it is very comfortable. The increased volume was a bonus.
Comments about John Pearse Acoustic Armrest:
After buying the armrest and examining it, I thought about how it might affect the resale value and salability of the guitar if I ever decided to sell it. How many people would want an armrest? It turned out to be a moot point. The armrest would fit the curvature of the guitar in only one position. When I rested my arm on the guitar, it (my arm) went behind that position rather than on it. Of course this was a function of the length of my arm and how I hold the guitar, and not necessarily a fault of the product. Hence the average rather than a lower rating. Your mileage may vary. I did not install the armrest. As it turned out, it would have done me no good if I had. And it might have done harm. I'm glad I took the measurements before installation, and before permanently and needlessly altering my guitar. Make one slip and it could be a disaster.
I purchased the rosewood armrest to go with the rosewood sides and back of my guitar. The armrest came with adhesive applied. It was contact cement, so all that would have been needed was removing the paper covering from the adhesive, positioning, and pressing in place. The instructions were well written and easy to understand, and one of those instructions pointed out the importance of careful positioning, because once applied, the adhesive is permanent.
The wood was of good quality and well finished, although smaller than I expected.
I thought the armrest was a bit pricey, but probably worth the cost if it would protect the guitar from the oils of my skin and improve the tone of the guitar as advertised.
Comments about John Pearse Acoustic Armrest:
Love it, never have seen any others like it. Was on back order for a month, so apparently not a popular item (need to get the word out)
Really makes a difference getting your arm off the guitar. The slight raise in your arm position also gives a better angle of attack and is very comfortable.
wood vs. plastic no contest
Considering it will last the life of the guitar it's placed on, it's well worth the money invested.
Comments about John Pearse Acoustic Armrest:
dose just what it is supposed to, could use a cheeper materal and still do the same thing.
Has no moving parts an adhesive stripe once placed on a guitar will remain on the guitar forever. like the mirror on a car windsheild. a ledge created by design lifts your forearm from the top of your guitar creating more movement in that area of the guitar. on my classical it fit nicely not perfect and I could hear a real difference in volume and tone from this cheep guitar.
Rose wood a nice match to the guitar board.
Just increased my cheepo guitar by quarter of it value;-}.wish they still made the plastic version.
Comments about John Pearse Acoustic Armrest:
I put on eof these on my really expensive guitar, but neglected to pay attention to my arm placement on the body. I was so absorbed in trying to make in fit the outer contour of my guitar (as the instructions state to do) that I inadvertently placed it a little futher forward than I would want. I now have a very expensive example of example of what not to do.This product is made of really nice material, but the contour is matched to something other that your standard dreadnaught body. Just look at the picture on this site... the thing overhangs at the end. If you don't want that, you'll have the same issue as I had. Be careful!!!
Comments about John Pearse Acoustic Armrest:
This is good product. It did improve the tone quality of my guitar a little. Also make for a good cosmetic appearance.
Comments about John Pearse Acoustic Armrest:
This is a a flawed design if I have ever seen one. The product claims to protect your guitar from sweat, but neglects to tell you that it attaches to your guitar with an ADHESIVE pad. Wow, theres no sweat on my 600 dollar guitar, now all I have to do is find a way to dissolve the superglue and rubber that are permanently attached to my finely polished cedar top.
