OVERVIEW

Ideal for brass, wind, and stringed instruments.

The AW-1 packs a detection range of A0~C8 and superb functionality into an ultracompact and lightweight unit. 2 included clips (large and small) let you attach it directly to your instrument, for example to the headstock of a guitar or the bridge of a violin. Since the clip contains an internal piezo pickup that detects the vibration of your instrument, you can enjoy stable tuning even if you're in a noisy environment. The clips adapt to a variety of situations and instruments and eliminate the need for a contact mic or other pickup. Alternatively, you can clip the AW-1 to your music stand and tune using the internal mic.

The appropriate location to attach the AW-1 will depend on your instrument. (This unit is not suitable for use with instruments in which the attachment location would be too close [e.g., flute-type instruments] or too far [e.g., tuba] for the meter to be read comfortably.)

Meter Reverse function lets you invert the display

The AW-1 uses a newly designed LCD meter that you can read easily. The Meter Reverse function makes it easy to read the meter in a vertical or horizontal position, regardless of the position in which you attach it to your instrument. Each time you press the display reverse button, the High (+) display will move alternately between the left and right sides, so that you can attach the unit to virtually any instrument in the viewing orientation you find most comfortable.

Pure major third/minor third intervals are indicated by marks, making it easy to play beautiful harmonies

Inaccurately played intervals of a third are particularly noticeable when played in a brass band or orchestra, but will sound just right when major third or minor third pitches are adjusted slightly away from the equal-tempered pitch. The AW-1's meter scale provides marks that indicate a pure major/minor third from the specified note. By tuning your instrument to these marks you can play beautiful harmonies in an ensemble situation. This capability is a great convenience not only for orchestral instruments, but also for vocal or acapella practice.

Adjustable calibration

The tuner can be calibrated to a wide range of pitches (410~480 Hz). Calibration can be adjusted in 1Hz steps, giving you the flexibility for accurate tuning in any situation. The memory backup function remembers the calibration setting even when you turn off the power. (However, this setting will be initialized when you replace the battery.)

Auto Power Off Function

The power will automatically turn off if the unit is left on for approximately 20 minutes without sound being input, preventing the battery from being used unnecessarily.

I just got this tuner as an "early" Christmas present after my GA-30 broke. Let me tell you, it fills the GA-30's shoes and more. It reads drop D on my bass fine, and I can accurately tune my mandolin, and I'm sure it'll work great on my gibson once I get that fixed up. If you want a good tuner, skip over the cheaper ones Korg makes and go for this one.And the case is cool too!

I have owned the Korg AW1 Tuner for three months and I must say that the Tuner does not cut it! First, the battery faded out within two months eventhough I used it two times in a month's span. The battery dried out eventhough the tuner was off all that time. Secondly, if I was tuning my five-string bass, this tuner could not decipher or grasp the frequiency on the 5th string (B). Thirdly, upon replacing the battery, thebattery lid broke and it had to be taped-- even when the battery change was done with utmost care. Additionally, when playing under minimal light you cannot read the screen. This tuner represents a bonafide attempt to implement good technology. Yet, it falls short from that!

Didn't last

By Avalon5

from Tucson AZ.

Loved using it while it lasted. The accuracy was dead on. But the back light issue is truly annoying along with the short battery life. I was willing to overlook these problems but it failed dead after 6 months. For the money I think we deserve better from Korg.

Great little tuner...

By Tim Priddy

from On a cruise ship

I play trumpet professionally, and am psyched to have this little gem. The only downside is that it is not back-lit, probably to conserve battery life, but it is quick--not like the old LCD displays of the past. The piezo pick-up eliminates background interference and with the accompanied clips, will work on almost any instrument. It is a bit pricey, but well worth it.

This is the one

By GreenGidget

from Mars

I was using the Intellitouch PT1 Tuner for my acoustic guitars, but it couldn't handle my electice guitar or my bass. The bass player in my band loaned me his Korg and it did the trick. If you're playing electic or bass, this is the tuner you want. If you're playing acoustic only, you can save $10 and get the Intellitouch.

Excellent, but Expensive

By Anonymous

from Undisclosed

This is ideal for acoustic instruments, because you don't have to worry about room noise messing up the reading. It's incredibly accurate--I never have to fiddle with it to get a "good" reading, like I would have to do with a traditional "mic" tuner. With regard to the battery issue mentioned below--I have not had any problems with it. I replace the battery about twice a year, and am good to go. On the other hand, I treat it well, IE turn it off when not using it.Mine was stolen a few months ago, but I like it so much I am going to shell out the cash and buy another one!

Not what I expected

By Educated Consumer

from San Juan, Puerto Rico

One of these was handed to each member of my band and needles to say, about half as many broke within two months! Additionally the battery on mine was replaced twice within two weeks. If we played in a night club wjth dim lights, we could not see the screen. Other fellow musicians reported the same mishap. On the other hand, the tuner was very accurate in its readings for guitar and other stringed instruments (including mine (I am the bass player). There are better and cheaper options here.

Church Music Director

By Robert Belen

from Sumter, SC

The price of this tuner should be no more than $30, when you concider the materials used and the battery draining issue. We use the tuner every week and will not tell you when the battery is going down-giving incorrect tuning readings-My daughter is a violin player, she knows when anyone is out of tune-she don't trust the tuner resdings. For me-is a good thing, because I depend on my tuner. The bottom line is: good design, poor materials, battery issues and needs a back light.

Excellent!... but needs backlighting

By Jozman5150

from Mount Shasta, CA

I bought this tuner prior to a long gig in the pit band for a musical. We ended up using it on all of the numerous stringed instruments in the band (banjo, bass, classical, dreadnoughts, and electric guitars). This tuner made show prep a breeze and is one of the best investments I have ever made. I do however wish that it had some sort of backlighting, but that really is it's only flaw. My bottom line on a product is if I lost it, would I buy another one?... and my answer on this tuner is a most definite YES!!

Great for double bass!

By Mike Barber

from Glenside, PA

I've been using this tuner for a few weeks now, and I have to say it is one of the wisest investments I have made. It is light as a feather, so I can safely clip it on to my double bass's bridge without any fears. The ability to angle and rotate is brilliant. The two clips are of great quality (unlike those on the Intellitouch tuners). I highly recommend for bass and other string players. Not only is it great for tuning, but also for intonation correction. A great practice tool!
