Korg

Big, bright display and legendary Korg tuning accuracy in a compact pedal.

The pitchblack Chromatic Pedal Tuner offers you high precision, advanced functionality, and sleek style to make it KORG's most advanced guitar/bass stompbox-style tuner yet. The pitchblack tuner has a tough aluminum die-cast body that will endure hard use on the road or in the studio. The large LED meter and note name display with light-emitting surface is easy to read in any setting from daylight to stage light to no light. The extremely smooth eleven-segment LED meter allows accurate visual tuning from any angle. The Pitch Black has a red LED to indicate on/off status and a tuning range of E0 (20.60 Hz) to C8 (4,186 Hz) with adjustable calibration between 436--445Hz.

4 display modes.

The pitchblack's LED meter can be switched among 4 display modes including: Meter, Full Strobe, Half Strobe, and Mirror.

1. Meter mode

Similar to using a needle meter, tune your instrument so that the green LED in the center of the LED display lights and both tuning guide LED's are lit. The tuning LED's will be to the right of center if your instrument is sharp, and to the left of the center if your instrument is flat.

2. Full Strobe mode

Tune your instrument so that the LED meters stop streaming and both tuning guide LED's are lit. The LED meters will stream from left to right if your instrument is sharp and from right to left if your instrument is flat.

3. Half Strobe mode

Tune your instrument so that the LED meters stop streaming and only the green LED in the center is lit and both tuning guide LED's are lit. The LED meters will stream to the right of center if your instrument is sharp, and to the left of center if your instrument is flat. When the pitch is correct, only the center LED will be lit.

4. Mirror mode

Tune your instrument so that the two LEDs on the left and right sides of the center LED meet in the middle and both tuning guide LED's are lit. The pitch lit LEDs will spread farther apart the more your instrument is out of tune. The left tuning guide will light if your instrument is flat, and the right tuning guide will light if your instrument is sharp.

100% True Bypass output keeps your tone intact.
The pitchblack mutes the input signal for silent tuning, and when you're not tuning the input is passed directly to the output jack without being affected by any circuitry (True Bypass). So even if you connect the pitchblack between several of your favorite pedals, the signal will pass without going through the internal buffer amp, ensuring that the sounds you've created using your effects will not be colored in any way. The pitchblack is designed to coexist transparently with other effect pedals.

A perfect fit in your pedal board plus the DC output powers other pedals.

The pitchblack is designed to fit conveniently into your pedal board system. It provides a DC OUT jack that can supply power to other effect pedals when the optional AC adaptor is used. By connecting optional DC cables, you can supply up to 200 mA of power to multiple effect pedals, simplifying the power connections in your pedal board.

Features:

It is an excellent unit and has everything you need. Nice big display. It works great for detuners as well because it tracks very fast. Better than the Boss TU-2 that I previously had!

Quality:

It seems to be nicely made. Haven't owned it long though.

Value:

At the current price, It is a no brainer!

Overall:

I usually don't rate something so high but this really impresses me! Should this one stand the realiable test, I'd buy another without hesitation.  I don't have any complaints about it.

Great Pedal Tuner!

Features:

I have used a KORG DT-1 Pro rack mount tuner since it first came out many years ago and still use in my rack to this day. An awesome unit! But I recently decided to build a pedal board for the quick set up gigs that I can't use my big rig on. The design of the Pitchblack caught my eye and it's KORG so why not try it! I like the various display options. Hey whatever suits your taste! I have Peterson Strobe tuners in my studio as well and this seems to be just as accurate. I use it at the biggining of my loop so I can "kill" the sound and tune between tunes if needed. There is nothing worse than hearing someone tune onstage in my opinion. My only drawback to this unit is when wired like this the tuner is NOT on all the time. I'm used to my Korg rack unit that is on all the time and I can catch tuning on longer whole notes while playing. I could just use my tuner out and get this but I like being able to mute the sound on stage if needed. It would be nice to have the option of both though. I don't use the additional power outlet for another pedal so I cant review it but this is a nice feature!

Quality:

Seems to be built solid. So far so good.

Value:

There are cheaper tuners out there for pedal boards but this one is easy to see and has a small footprint. If KORG put the craftsmanship into this pedal that they did for the DT-! Pro I should have many years of use and to me that makes the price worth every penny!

Overall:

I haven't had it that long but so far I'm impressed overall. Nice big LED lights that are easy to see on a bright lit stage and in the dark. I just wish there was a mode that keeps the LED's lit all the time with wireing for mute. I realize it's a battery saving feature but I use a power adapter anyway. If there is a way to bypass this or a "fix" for this, I'm all ears.

Great tuner!

Features:

Easy to read, easy to use.  True bypass is really nice.

Quality:

solid construction that seems like it will hold up for a long time.  No complaints so far about the way it works, and I've been using it alot for the past couple months- plus I got mine used, so it's already been stomped on quite a bit and is still going strong!

Value:

Well, it's a tuning pedal, and it's cheaper than the boss (and works better).  So while I'd love to pay less for something that really just keeps me in tune, I'd say it's probably worth the money.  I got mine used, so I'm stoked; however I'd pay full price for a new one if mine ever broke.

Overall:

Overall, this pedal is a tank, and it has a really bright, easy to use display.  I like that it has the ability to power other pedals too, although I use a one-spot and only have 5 pedals so I've never actually tried using this feature.  Another thing I like is how small it is- it doesn't take up too much space on my board.  Also, it LOOKS good, which is important... looks don't define quality, obviously, but if you can find a piece of equipment that looks sharp and works great, you've scored big time.  In my opinion, the Pitchblack tuner is one such product.
