Lace Hemi Humbuckers=Awesome

By CastIron178

Comments about Lace Hemi Humbucker Pickup:

Until buying the neck and bridge calibrated Hemi humbuckers, I had never used Lace pickups. I just remembered seeing lots of Lace Sensors on high dollar Strats back in the day. Thought I'd take a chance and try something different, cause the other brands out there weren't doing it for me.I wanted bright, punchy, clear, and a reasonable amount of power. Lace, with there barium ferrite magnets (the only thing I can think of as to why they're so different) and distinct construction give this pickup great sensitivity and clarity. Tonally, think the beffiness of a classic humbucker, but with the growl of a P-90. Not at all thin, but it is so much brighter than any humbucker I've ever used (not in a harsh way). Sounds great clean, has a nice twang and bite.Overdriven, it's not muddy, or overly bassy, even on the neck pickup. Ballsy as hell, can really scream! A lot of treble to work with even in the mahogany bodied Ibanez I instaleed them in, but it can easily be rolled off without ruining the overall tone. I highly, HIGHLY recommend the Hemi to anyone who wants to be able to play anything on just one guitar. These have been able to play rockabilly, jazz, metal, and anything else I've been able to think of, and with the 4 conductor wiring, it can make all kinds of wonderful racket. Never tried it because I hate rewiring, but I think with the way Lace has designed the coils, with split or parallel it should still sound great. Easily my favorite pickup ever, aftermarket or stock.

Comments about Lace Hemi Humbucker Pickup:

I put this on my G&L guitar to replace my neck pickup, because I did not like how my cleans sounded. I had a local shop put this in. The guys at the shop were not familiar with the Lace Hemi pickups. I think I created a buzz there. When I pickup up my guitar, Fred said he had ordered a set for his Les Paul. Ive never liked using my neck pick up until I put this in. I am already buying a neck and bridge pickup for my SG (I going to test drive the Nitro-Hemi for the bridge though). Best sounding neck pick up Ive ever heard. Playing Blues its perfect and even if youre going for that warm leads it even works for that. I play all kinds of music and I must say you cant go wrong with Lace Pickups
5 conductor wiring. Haven't tried it yet, but they can be wired to split, and I assume for split/paralell and phase.
Rock solid. The clean chrome cover is classy.

Comments about Lace Hemi Humbucker Pickup:

Ive wanted to write a review of these pickups since I received them but Ive been too busy playing them. I LOVE THESE THINGS. OK, so there it is. . .go on to the next review or read on.I have two electrics other than the Hemi host, a very light and resonant custom solid body with 70s vintage Dimarzio PAF/DS pickups and a hybrid strat copy with Lace Sensors (Blue/Gold/Red). The one with the buckers has series/parallel switching on the DS and a phase switch on it, and the strat has standard 5 way. The point being, theres no lack of options for varied tone there. And then I put these Hemis in my recently acquired Ibanez AS73 now my cheapest guitar is my favorite. Theres just no describing how unique these things sound. They marry a P90 with a single coil, and dont really sound like either, nor like a humbucker, but have traits of all three. I havent even installed coil tap switches or treble bleed caps yet, and these things have me going back through all the amp models in my Pod 2.0 and rediscovering just how amazing and sensitive those sims really are. Amp models I dismissed in the past, are fast becoming some of my new favorites, and Im hearing things from the Pod I didnt know it had in it. . .very, very cool.Im not into high gain snarling OD sounds, much more of a Fender Blackface or Vox AC30 with just a little push on the front so I can still hear what the guitar sounds like and all the subtle nuances. That being said, the AS73 is pretty woody to begin with, so I really wanted a pickup that would put as much sound out in as broad a range as possible after that Ill deal with it downstream, but let me hear the guitar first. I started with the stock pickups (OK but a bit mushy); tried the vintage Dimarzios in there (still a bit mushy); put the stockers back in with the nickel covers removed (now were getting somewhere, but not quite there yet). Hemis in, me happy. Definitely recommended for the semi-hollow crowd if youre not looking to sound like everyone else (but still want to once in a while). My new favorite by a long shot.
