Very noisy - low output - not recommended

By JAMES SITES

Comments about Lace Resophonic Guitar Neck Sensor Pickup:

As noted under Features, I installed the dobro sensor on a Wechter wood resonator. Main goal was to use the lace sensor in combination with a mike for recording. The sensor couldn't be used. Lots of hum regardless of volume. Output of the sensor was minimal. I had to employ a preamp/booster cranked up to get a good signal.

I contacted Lace via email but haven't heard back. (Curiously they list email addresses on their site but indicate that they tend to be non-responsive.)

The sensor installs wtih double sided tape. It could be removed without damage to the wood.

The jack for the sensor is good-sized. You want to take care not to have it rub against the guitar's finish.
The item didn't come with any installation or usage instructions. Nothing on the Lace website other than dimensions.

The box indicates that the sensor is made in the USA.
It didn't work for my purposes so the value was non-exstent.

Comments about Lace Resophonic Guitar Neck Sensor Pickup:

Besides using a mic positioned very close to the holes in the resonator cover.... I have only used one other resonator pickup besides this lace. It was a fishman that was professionally mounted inside the guitar. I did not like the fishman at all! Squaky, tinny, and subject to all kinds of horrible noises.
This lace, while not completely authentic to the dobro sound... works great. It will mellow out and fatten up your resonator sound a bit... but it was not enough to be of any real concern to me. Other than that it put out a strong clean sound and unlike some other reviewers I did not feel the need for any additional power in the signal.
Some more EQ capabilities would be nice, and a volumn control (for that a good pre-amp might be nice.) I installed mine permently by running the wire inside the body and drilling a hole to run the input jack through in the butt of the guitar. It was quite easy. It did require some enlarging between two of the round holes in the wooden support ring and unsoldering the wires on the jack and then re=attaching them. I used the jack that came attached to the pickup.
easy work. Good pickup, and has NO effect on the instrument when played acoustically.
I would have given a five star if there were eq and volumn controls... but for the price I suppose that would be expecting too much.

Comments about Lace Resophonic Guitar Neck Sensor Pickup:

It does the job as expected. You must accept the idea that a magnetic pickup will never perfectly translate the acoustic sound but the sound is well balanced, retaining the main character of your instrument. Great for blues with a little overdrive. If you are into bluegrass you are better off using a clip pickup but it would work too.

Comments about Lace Resophonic Guitar Neck Sensor Pickup:

Sometimes, I travel without an instrument to remote gigs. At one venue, there is a resident square-neck reso guitar--without a pickup. Using the Lace Reso Sensor, I can quickly--in less than 5 minutes--attach it to the instrument and plug into the house PA. Here are the caveats: 1) You should play through a pre-amp/DI. The Lace is a passive pickup that honestly requires a pre-amp. I use either an LR Baggs Para Acoustic DI or a Radial Tonebone PZ-Pre DI. 2) You probably need to use a spacer to adjust the pickup's proximity to the strings. I found that the best distance to provide clearance (to avoid strings depressed by your steel contacting the pickup) and the pickup being close enough to give you some gain is 1/8"-1/4" (depending on how heavy-handed you be). It's not going to be as loud as yer buddy's Strat, so don't expect to be the big dawg on stage. Remember, it's an acoustic instrument. Enjoy.

This is a great pickup for a resonator, I like a lot of Overdirive on my brass resonator and this neck pickup does the job just right, I recomend for all types of music and with any resonator Brass or wood.

Great bitey Blues sound on Gretsch Resonator

Comments about Lace Resophonic Guitar Neck Sensor Pickup:

I received a Gretsch resonator guitar as a gift for my awesome wife. I wanted to add guitar to my live gigs,, but didn't want to mess around with micing an acoustic guitar in a loud bar. After some research, I heard lots of reviews about this and ordered one.
I absolutely love the sound it gives the Grech through both my Baggs acoustic DI in the PA, and my Fender Deluxe. It's bluesy, Bitey and just tad aggressive, especially when compared to my Taylor 414. I love it. It really captures that unique resonator sound just as I'd hoped it would.
The only issue I had was that it was too high when mounted with the sticky tape given with the pick up. I tried some Velcro strips, and that was too high as well. It was rubbing up against my strings. I ended up glueing it directly to the body so that it was flush. This puts it the perfect distance away from the strings. I just hope it holds up.

Comments about Lace Resophonic Guitar Neck Sensor Pickup:

I wanted a pickup for my resonator guitar, but was skeptical at how well a magnetic pickup would catch the tones from the instrument. I was pleasantly surprised when I mounted mine, plugged it in and played. I play the resonator with a slide, and the metalic sound these guitars are known for came through loud and clear.
This pickup is a much better alternative to mic'ing the guitar. I would buy it again.

Comments about Lace Resophonic Guitar Neck Sensor Pickup:

I have purchased two of these. One is installed on my '29 square neck Dobro and the other my round neck '34 National Duolian. I attached the pickup on Duolian using silicon to protect the finish and make it easy to remove.

My preference is always a mic on these instruments but in a band situation that is not practical. These pickups serve me very well.

I use it on a Gretsch wooden body resonator guitar. It installed in less than a minute. There's ample clearance for the strings. I am quite satisfied with it.
