Lava

A pedalboard kit that allows you to space your pedals within 1 inch or less of each other due to Lava's revolutionary right-angle plug.

The Lava Solder-Free Pedalboard Kit includes 10 feet of Mini ELC Cable, 10 Lava plugs, and a stripping tool.

Lava Cable DIY solder-free plugs—developed with G&H Industries—is specifically designed with tight tolerances to match the Lava Mini ELC cable. The Lava Plug is the first solder-free DIY plug on the market not to use a set screw to make the ground connection. Instead, Lava Cable plugs employ a sleeve that makes a 360° ground and outer jacket contact.

The right angle plug was introduced at Summer NAMM 2009 and it may be the smallest DIY solder-free right angle plug on the market—with a body width of .435", for spacing between pedals of less than 1"—or less than 1/2" when staggered.

Don't miss out on this affordable kit including 10' of Mini ELC Cable, 10 Lava plugs, and a stripping tool when you buy today.

The design of these is about three tiers above any other DIY solderless cable design. They go together easy, and are sturdier than the competition. The cable is very flexible and it's no problem wiring up even the tightest components.I recently rewired my rack with these, and probably cut about 10 feet out of the signal path compared to what I had using premade patch cables. Frequency response is more even, and I have noticeably less noise. In addition the cable is small and it makes the rack case significantly less cluttered.I've used Mogami, George L's, Planet Waves, Spectraflex, CBI, George Ls and Evidence Audio cables in various guitar setups over the years. All of them have their uses, and some are outstanding, but for any type of patch cable (especially when needed in a tight space) I have to recommend Lava.

Comments about Lava Mini ELC Cable Pedalboard Kit with Right Angle Plug:

Let me start off saying I have had nothing but good experiences with Lava Cables instrument and speaker cables. I don't use anything else. I started using the solderless mini-ELC kits as a replacement for George L's. They are a little trickier to assemble than George L's but if you take your time, it's not a problem. Others have mentioned their reliability problems, which is true, the connections can't tolerate too much plugging and unplugging without failing. My biggest concern is that the tip connector actually pulls out of the plug and gets stuck in the jack of what ever device you're connecting to. Fortunately, the needle stays with the tip so you can generally remove it with a pair of needle-nose pliers. I am re-wiring my pedalboard and had 5 of these things fail on me just last night. This is a complete deal breaker for me. It's back to George L's.

Comments about Lava Mini ELC Cable Pedalboard Kit with Right Angle Plug:

If you're not smart enough to trim back the shield after stripping the cable and to leave enough of the conductor sticking through the little insert thing so it will still reach the needle in the plug when you bend the cable for the right angle, then these will be immensely frustrating. If you can figure that out, then you'll be OK. Haven't had mine very long and haven't unplugged them a bunch of times yet so I can't speak to their durability, but so far they're fine.

Comments about Lava Mini ELC Cable Pedalboard Kit with Right Angle Plug:

These are excellent cables and really improve your tone. The only downside is that it takes time to make these cables. I would recommend watching the gig rig video on youtube that tells you how to make them. They are also very small plugs and cables. Very good for a tight pedalboard.

I have been trying to use these for over a year, and every time i redo my pedal board at least one goes wrong. They are not even simple to construct, you could literally solder a cable in the amount of time it takes to make one of these terrible cables.

Comments about Lava Mini ELC Cable Pedalboard Kit with Right Angle Plug:

Love the plugs as they are very small and pedalboard friendly. Unfortunately the cons outweigh the pros with this kit. They are difficult to properly assemble, and not easy to make in a pinch mid-gig when something fails. They start failing after just being moved a few times while rearranging pedals.

Comments about Lava Mini ELC Cable Pedalboard Kit with Right Angle Plug:

As much as like the thinness of the cable, and the plugs being nice and small,
these do-it-yourself plugs have a high failure rate, even when they test out fine
              on your meter.

They are a total pain in the butt to assemble, and if you ever have to move any
of your pedals, you better hope that the ones that were working don't fail too.

Just a bad design overall, and will make you either want to buy soldered plugs, or
learn to solder yourself to make your own...

Don't waste your money on these...(And I do like this company's other products!)

Good for pedal customising but quality is poor

Comments about Lava Mini ELC Cable Pedalboard Kit with Right Angle Plug:

I got more pedalboard spaces and allowed me to customise my pedal arrangement.
Well, it works well until I unplugged and reconnected for rearrangement of my pedals. The cord got easily twisted and connection went really annoying. Though I tried to cut the cables and made a fresh connection but got no luck at all.
I made 5 patch cables out of USD90 but after 2 months 3 of the cable went worthless.

              Reliablitiy issues

Comments about Lava Mini ELC Cable Pedalboard Kit with Right Angle Plug:

Reliability is everything and this kit just doesn't have it. I'm continuing with my trusty Core X2 cables that have never failed me.
At first glance, this looks like a great cable kit. The cable looks really high quality, the finish on the plugs looks great, and the plugs are neat and won't take up much room on your pedal board. So feature wise, this is a great kit. Overall, not so much. Read on.
I bought this kit to replace my Core X2 cables. I love the Core X2 kit, but I simply couldn't find any new angled plugs to buy (I have since then). I read the rave reviews and thought I'd give it a try. I got the kit, and started following the instructions. Now first of all, I'm an engineer, and I've been working with electronics and soldering, crimping, and tinkering with it for the last 26 years. I'm not a newbie and I know what I'm doing. This kit suffers from a few serious design flaws. It comes with a stripping tool which works well. However, when you strip the cable, it pulls the braid forward a little bit, which gets it uncomfortably close to the center lead. So the first thing you need to do is strip off about 1/32 of the braid. Not a big deal, but worth mentioning. The more serious flaw (this may possibly only apply to the kits with angled plugs) is that once the the ground sleeve has been mounted and the cable inserted into the plug, you need to bend it 90 degrees. This is a TERRIBLE design. What happens is that the cable gets pulled slightly out of the plug. This is enough to cause intermittent problems which happened to 9 out of the 10 cables that I made.

I measured each cable with an ohm meter, and they resistance would jump up and down depending on how the cable was bent, indicating a bad connection inside the plug. I installed the cables on my pedal board, and plugged my amp in. When I was playing, the sound would cut out and the volume drop without me moving a thing. I simply don't know that you CAN build reliable cables the way this kit is designed. At least not with the angled plugs. And that is really bad since that's what you need the most on a pedal board.
If something isn't designed properly and doesn't work, there's not much value to it.
