SoundTech's LightSnake USB Microphone cable is really a "sound card in a cable" and digital music recording has never been easier. Just plug in your microphone and start recording in CD quality. You can start your own music production straight out of the package. The cable is an XLR microphone to USB cable which is ideal for vocal recording or podcasting.

An embedded 16 Bit Analog to Digital converter with audio signal boost ensures extremely low audio loss and 48/44.1 KHz Sampling Rate provides you with high audio quality while recording. The HSDL (Host Side Data Loss) Noise Reduction function prevents any unwanted noise when converting the audio signal to digital format and saving to your computer.

The LightSnake cable features SoundTech's patented "Live when Lit" technology cable ends that glow when connected properly and flash indicating when sound is being transmitted. The simplicity of these cables and their price point make the digital recording arena accessible to every one.

The audio cable is packaged with a DVD that contains 30 day trail versions of all of Sony Media Software titles, including Sound Forge, Acid, Vegas , etc. This addition makes the cable a complete solution right out of the box. Mac users are not left out as GarageBand recording software is on every new Macintosh sold.

This is a true USB plug-n-play connection. No additional drivers are needed for the following operating systems — Win 98 SE / Win ME / Win 2000 /Win XP and Mac OS9 / OS X. An ASIO driver is forthcoming for recording software that implements this technology.

Comments about LightSnake USB Microphone cable:

This cable will not produce a clear sound. If you don't have an audio interface, it's great for demo purposes, but I wouldn't recommend it for professional recordings because of the high noise floor.

      Works As Advertised

      By Dee Hiatt

      from Texas

Comments about LightSnake USB Microphone cable:

I am using the SoundTech Lightsmake USB microphone cable as advertised, with Windows XP, and made sure that I configured both the "Audio" tab and the "Voice" tab in Windows' Sounds and Audio Devices Properties. I am using a good quality dynamic microphone (E/V N/D267) and have recorded in both Audacity and Windows Sound Recorder. After a little experimenting I am able to make good voice recordings with plenty of level. Those individuals that rated this product low because they tried to use it with Windows 7 or a condensor mic without an additional phantom power supply either did not read the specifications of the product or did not pay attention to them. Hopefully there will be a Windows 7 driver soon.

This is the least expensive way to make high quality voice or instrument recordings on your computer if you need only one (1) input.
I wish the SoundTech Lightsmake USB microphone cable used regular mic cable. The clear plastic covering is difficult to un-coil and get to lay flat. The green LEDs in each connector make great night lights if you record in your bedroom.

      Great Cable

      By TheMusician

Comments about LightSnake USB Microphone cable:

I've read other reviews before writing this one. And while I've only had mine for a few days before writing this, I have to say that the cable I got works very well. I did have some issues at first but found out that it was my Windows 7 and sound card at fault...not the cable. The cable was purchased with the Musician's Friend microphone package for $30. I needed a cable that would allow me to connect a XLR mic to a PC (USB). I am new to microphones and related accessories but took a chance on this cable. I'm glad I did. It might have cost more than the cost of the microphone package, but it sounds good and what the cable is doing can been seen visually by the LED indicators. As I mentioned, I had issues when I connected this to a year-old Compaq laptop with Windows 7 64-bit that had a sound card by IDT. The card was seeing the microphone as both an Audio Input device and a USB Speaker. It can't be both or the sound quality from any microphone connected to the cable will be terrible. What I ended up doing was using my wife's old XP desktop with a REAL Sound Blaster sound card. All issues were resolved; and the cable and microphone combination really showed what they were capable of. I highly recommend that if this cable is purchased to use it with either a MAC for GarageBand or a PC running nothing higher than Windows XP.

      Don't bother buying this...

      By Miss.Mia Kay

Comments about LightSnake USB Microphone cable:

Does NOT produce a clear sound. Don't waist your time. Buying a USB powered condenser mic would be better. May cost a little more, but at least it will work. This product does NOT work well with phantom power. I repeat, purchase at your own risk.

Comments about LightSnake USB Microphone cable:

I bought mine right after 2006 CES, plugged it in and use it as my primary mic cable for PC/Skype use. No hassles, works every time. Cheap and easy solution for XLR mic wiring to PC.

What you pay for is what you get..

      By Bryan-VW5xp

      from Cleveland

Comments about LightSnake USB Microphone cable:

I picked this up [Actually the 1/4" to USB Lazysnake] at my local Target [har har] as a quick little temporary cable to record.I got mine for like 25USD and excepted nothing spectacular, and thats what it is. Pure junk. I'd have it hooked up to my ER mkII, and the hats were of such ridiculous quiet levels. Aside from that, there was massive hiss and noise occurring in background. Pretty much I'd say its garbage. I picked it up for cheap [which it is] and haven't used it beyond piecing ideas together. I can't wait for my Delta 1010 to arrive..

Easy to hook up was the best feature, however chronic static and it wasn't me, lights didn't always come on when they should have. If you like static this is the item for you!
