OVERVIEW

A discrete mic/pickup system that lets you adjust to get the perfect blend of your guitar's natural tone.

After 30 years of effort, LR Baggs has created the Anthem Tru-Mic acoustic guitar microphone which does what every amplified acoustic guitarist has dreamed about and no other pickup manufacturer has been able to create yet-unlocked the potential of a microphone to capture the very essence of your guitar with high-feedback resistance for demanding stages. Not obvious, but equally important, is that the natural ease and dynamics of the Anthem Tru-Mic guitar microphone liberates you to play freely without having to compensate for the pickup system. Now you're free to play the way you like, plugged in or not.

For the Anthem acoustic guitar mic, LR Baggs used no modeling or illusions. It's not "like" a mic. It's not "like" your guitar. This is a mic, and what you will experience is your guitar-loud and with the fidelity and dynamics that come from a real microphone.

Tru-Mic Technology
At the heart of the LR Baggs Anthem guitar mic is a revolutionary type of microphone. Using a proprietary noise-canceling mic, the Anthem Tru-Mic eliminates any annoying honky or boxy qualities that have been previously associated with internal miking, leaving the pure and natural sound of your guitar the way only a real mic is capable of doing. Because this LR Baggs acoustic mic is positioned within a few millimeters of the guitar top, it has very high gain before feedback. The mic housing mounts easily to the bridge plate and the mic capsule hovers just 3mm above its surface to take advantage of the PZM or boundary effect. This Tru-Mic technology picks up the sound of the vibrations of the entire soundboard and makes the LR Baggs guitar mic unusually free from placement issues.

Mic and Piezo Pickup: A Radical Technology
The sound quality and feedback resistance of the Anthem Tru-Mic acoustic microphone now allows the mic to be the primary sound source in a mic/pickup system. This is unlike previous systems where only a small amount of the mic could be used to add some air to the dominant pickup signal. This is a radical new relationship between a mic and a pickup, as all of the detail, warmth, and personality of your guitar is captured by the Tru-mic. The mic is augmented, for only the very lowest frequencies, capturing the punch and authority of your playing, by the LR Baggs Element under saddle pickup.

Controls
The featherweight control unit controls all of the essentials, volume, mix, and phase. It nestles securely just inside of the soundhole for easy fingertip access. The mix control allows a full-blend between the augmented mic and full-range pickup. A multi-segment battery check allows you to maximize battery life and peace of mind.

Under the hood is an all-discrete preamp/mixer with the pure, clean LR Baggs signature sound that is trusted by top artists around the world. Thanks to it's intelligent engineering, you can just plug in and enjoy the real sound of your acoustic guitar and the way you play, night after night.

Comments about LR Baggs Anthem Tru-Mic Acoustic Microphone/Piezo Pickup System:

A friend recently bought a Martin D45, I did some work on that for him, yes it had a couple of issues with binding and abalone, but a great guitar, you know what they cost. He nabs one of these Baggs Anthem's and then calls to see if I'll help him with a couple parts of the install, we ended up doing it all in one evening, strung it up and had at it. You should have seen the smile on his face. I was smiling too. Two thumbs up from this luthier, go for it if you have the scratch, but get some help if you are all thumbs. It's fairly straightforward, but a complex install, piezo UST, the baggs Mic attaches to the bridge plate, ahead of the bridge pins, drill out 1/2 inch for the jack, ream don't drill, battery compartment is peel and stick to the neck block, the controls and preamp are peel and stick to the top, then there are about a half dozen peel and stick wire stays which you bend around the wiring to hold it in place. This is one fine system, each component including the battery plugs into the sound hole mounted preamp. Controls are nice as is the battery indication lights, five tiny led's saying we're there. Anthem Tru-Mic with Peizo

By Randie Blunt

from Arkansas

Comments about LR Baggs Anthem Tru-Mic Acoustic Microphone/Piezo Pickup System:

Great pickup and mic system.
I put this in a CIRCA Aderondak Spruce/CocoBolo 7/8 Drednaught Acoustic. If you're not familiar with CIRCA guitars, look them up. Made by a Luthier named John Slobod from Casco Maine.Incredible. It costs a lot of money but sometimes you get surprised by something that's worth every penny you've spent. I was looking for a top of the line pickup for an expensive instrument and that is exactly what I got. Excellent tone, sound and presence. Volume wheel is very sensative. The Tone wheel or rather a blending wheel is great at balancing between the microphone and the Peizo at the saddle. Some feedback noted but moving a bit from the amp cab silenced it. Also the phase button switch makes noticable difference in sound and tone. I play it through a Divided by 13 amp that has a nice cut dial that zeroed in excellent sound. The pick up matches the sound of recording the guitar unplugged with a Neumann U-87. A simply wonderful pickup. I highly recommend this product. I'll be using these in the future as well.
It's still brand new but the performance is outstanding.
As I said in the main write-up. It is worth every penny you spend on it.

Comments about LR Baggs Anthem Tru-Mic Acoustic Microphone/Piezo Pickup System:

I would recommend this to anyone, it just sounds great! I researched and watched videos and this was the best. Everything is true, best sound of an acoustic guitar I've heard.
This microphone/under saddle transducer combination works very well reproducing the sound of your guitar. I had no problems with feedback, and the ability to adjust between the mic and ust lets you get your sound right. It took very little adjustment of the microphone gain control screw and I may give the mic more gain in the future, but it sounds so good right now I may leave it alone.
Everything came well packaged, but be aware no instructions are included, they can be downloaded from Baggs website. Also not mentioned is the unit must be installed by a qualified luthier for warranty purposes. Installation, while not overly difficult, does require drilling several holes in your guitar, sanding down your bridge saddle to compensate for the thickness of the UST, making sure it is absolutely flat on the bottom, and adjusting mic gain control.
The Anthem Tru-Mic is the best sounding acoustic pickup I have ever heard. Yes it is expensive, but well worth the price. I played out this past week and can't wait to play again.

Comments about LR Baggs Anthem Tru-Mic Acoustic Microphone/Piezo Pickup System:

This is an awsome mic/pickup to reproduce the actual & natural sound of your insturment without adding anything to it, esp. when using the mic. I installed this in my Larrivee OM-03 and when I play through an amp or PA using the mic, my guitar still sounds like itself. 99% of the time I only use the mic, but it's good to have the pickup if there is feedback issues (which I have NOT experienced so far),or you need alittle more treble in your mix.

I chose the Anthem over the Anthem SL because it offered me more control over the mix between the mic/pickup as well as more control at my fingertips with the preamp being right there (phase, vol., mix & batt).

The install was easy esp. if you follow the directions, and take your time. After restring (I would recomend setting up with new strings), set up took maybe an hour +/-, this is where you adjust the mic sensativty control with the little screw driver they give you while playing through your amp. This is exremly important because it customizes the mic for your insturment and playing style. I havent had any issues with the mic placement and installed it according to the directions, however when I spoke with a rep. from L.R.Baggs prior to purchase he indicated that in many cases moving the mic may be necessary depending on insturment and desired sound.

I play contemporary christian praise & worship, rock and gospel. I flat pick, finger pick, and strum with & without a pick and this mic/pickup system sounds the best IMO, and offers the most versatility to customize it for your insturment, venue & equipment. I have experience with B-Band and Fishman products and the L.R. Baggs is by far the best I have used so far. Absolutly worth the money.

    Natural & Resists Feedback...

    By Mark Benjamin

    from Raleigh, NC

Comments about LR Baggs Anthem Tru-Mic Acoustic Microphone/Piezo Pickup System:

I bought this to have installed in an all wood Taylor series - GA-3. I waited 6 months for this pickup to be released, and I can say the wait was worth it. After playing it for nearly a year now, I love the tone and simplicity of this system. I usually half the dial - a little favoring the element pickup. I find the element to have the crispness I desire out of my Taylor, while the anthem brings out a warmth I was not used to hearing in my other Taylor 610ce with the original prefix plus system installed. What I try to do with my guitar is replicate the same tonal quality I hear ringing out when it is unplugged. It was not hard to dial in a sound that seemed more authentically and tonally acoustic than other pick-ups I have used. As such, I have ditched any additional effects I used to use and plug directly into the Baggs venue D.I. for pre-amp and tuner and I am good to go.

Comments about LR Baggs Anthem Tru-Mic Acoustic Microphone/Piezo Pickup System:

This pickup is extremely clear and does a fantastic job at being loud and not feeding back. I have this installed in my Martin HD28-MP and I couldn't be happier with the guitar's amplified sound. I can agree with what I've read on this pickup before, and that is...this product will not help or harm your tone. It will only make it louder. If you've got a great sounding guitar, it will capture that and make every detail come through. Conversely, if you have a bad sounding guitar, it will capture every detail of that poor tone in great clarity. The piezo garners more of a generic tone that might be able cover up a poor acoustic, but in my experience I keep 90/10 mic/piezo blend which gives a great result.

The two cons (which are minimal) that I've experienced in using this product for the last 6 months are 1) the adhesive that holds the parts in place is not intrusive BUT it doesn't stay attached very well. I ended up having to glue (yikes) the velcro side of the battery pack into the guitar to keep it attached. 2) the pickup is great, but it's delicate. Granted I am a "vigorous" player, when I play heavily the signal cracks in and out. I'm not sure if it's a wiring thing but as long as you don't beat up on your guitar (guilty as charged) the pickup should work fine.

Comments about LR Baggs Anthem Tru-Mic Acoustic Microphone/Piezo Pickup System:

I'm rating this product 3 out of 5 based solely on the sound quality. I think it's unfair to rate products based on getting a DOA unit especially from a company like Baggs with a stellar rep.

Bought the M80 a year ago when if first came out to use in my previously virgin Martin D35.
Compared to the lower end sound hole pickups I have heard on other guys guitars it sounded good but no matter how I tried to EQ it, it never truly sounded like my guitar.

I play acoustic gigs through a Bose L1 and my Taylor with the CE system blew it away sound wise. The Baggs always sounded tinny and thin and it really exaggerated the Martin's boomy bottom end to the point of feedback issues.
To be honest, it sounded like a pickup which is what it is and what all sound hole pickups are. TO be fair it sounds better than the others I have tried and heard BUT you can do a LOT better for about the same cash... read on...

Always slightly dissatisfied with the sound of the M80 I saw the LR Baggs Anthem on the shelf yesterday with the piezo bridge transducer and the internal mic and bought it.
Installed it and took it to the nearest open mic to try out and MAN it's a NIGHT and DAY difference, it literally blew me away how natural it sounded!

The Anthem makes the Martin run through the PA sound just like it does UNPLUGGED. It doesn't exaggerate the heavy bottom.
There is a mic-bridge balance knob to adjust less bridge pickup (which receives the bass) in favor of more mic input and once I found the sweet spot it was magical.

If you're buying the M80 cause it's a "no modification required" sound hole then that's not "really true". You still have to ream out the strap pin hole to receive the 1/4" jack and strap button and that is the hairiest part of the install of the Anthem system as you risk marring the finish of your guitar if you go at it without skills.

Baggs actually states the Anthem system MUST be installed by a luthier or it voids warranty. That's likely due to the transducer wire install. If you drill straight holes and don't add a bit of relief to the entry point it could stress the sensor and likely break it in time.
It wouldn't cost more than an hour or 2 labor at a luthier to have a pro install it.

I did it myself as I'm a cabinet maker and to install the Anthem only required drilling 2 small holes under the saddle at a 45deg angle (there's a video on Youtube) and lowering the saddle height by the thickness of the sensor. That is easy enough a plate of glass and some sandpaper.

The Anthem system is only a bit more than the M80 and 5x the sound quality. I have yet to A/B the Anthem with my Taylor CE system but I know the taylor sound and I can tell the Baggs rivals it.

I would highly recommend anyone looking at the M80, SERIOUSLY look at the Anthem as well. The M80 is just another compromise in sound quality for the notion of convenience.

Comments about LR Baggs Anthem Tru-Mic Acoustic Microphone/Piezo Pickup System:

I consider myself an intermediate level guitar player. Small lead breaks, mostly rhythm, on my acoustic. I began to play out more and needed the ability to play through a PA system. I was on the fence of either buying a 3K guitar with onboard electronics, or an under the saddle pic up for my acoustic. I purchased an incredible breedlove a few years ago for around 1K...and I would compare it to other guitars 3 times as expensive and my guitar always came out on top, compared to action, and tone. I opted for this pickup instead of a new guitar and couldn't be happier. I get complements all the time about how amazing my guitar sounds plugged in, and I'm quick to point out it's really just my guitar, nothing special. Yet this combo pickup has made all the difference. Since my purchase Breedlove has began shipping this pickup on all of their newer high end guitars, which I consider to be an amazing decision.

I opted for the upgraded Anthem to have the ability to do my own adjustments, which I would recommend if you're playing with a group or through a variety of PA systems. The ability to adjust it according to the venue/stage mix has proved very beneficial. It has enough power to cut through any mix.

Having had this pickup for about a year, my input jack began to stick. It was difficulty to remove or insert my 1/4 guitar cable. I called LR Baggs, and they were top notch professional. The gentlemen I spoke with said they stand by their product and that they had never heard of this issue, but that regardless they would send a new input jack so I could replace mine, free of charge. Great customer service and I value the way they stood by their product. I would recommend them to anyone for sure, and certainly wouldn't hesitate installing this on any guitar, no matter how cheap or expensive...your guitar sound is exactly what you get.

Comments about LR Baggs Anthem Tru-Mic Acoustic Microphone/Piezo Pickup System:

I took the leap of faith and ordered the Anthem after visiting the LR Baggs website and listening to the audio clips. I installed the Anthem in my Taylor 814ce, which I originally ordered with only an under the saddle pickup (no onboard electronics). Installation was a breeze and took probably 30 minutes or so. I have had to do some minor tweaking, though. The bone saddle I had installed had to go - too much bottom end and uneven response. I installed a standard Taylor Tusq saddle, which tamed the bottom end, but I had to remove it once for additional sanding to get more even string-to-string response. Make sure your saddle is sanded FLAT! I've played out with the Anthem in a 3 piece acoustic group as well as solo. I love the natural tone. Obviously, since one of the pickups is microphonic, physical noise is picked up as well. This is a good thing as far as I'm concerned - I like the additional percussive effect. So far, feedback has not been an issue. This is a great pickup with natural tone and a good amount of versatility. I love not having the harshness of the piezo. Controls are pretty easy to access. I like that they included phase and mic gain controls. Perhaps best of all, they included a battery life indicator.

Comments about LR Baggs Anthem Tru-Mic Acoustic Microphone/Piezo Pickup System:

I installed this system in my Emerald Opus x30 carbon fiber acoustic. My previous B-Band 8 preamp had failed. It was a leap of faith purchase and install. OUTSTANDING results. The element itself is fantastic but the system mic truly allows your acoustic natural sound to come true. Your technique, rhythm or leads, will shine through. Just Eq to taste ( for reference: I use a Radial PZ-Pre and a Phil Jones AG Cub 300) and you will nail down down the best of what your guitar has to offer. My recommendation is to get quality guitar first or else you might be disappointed with the results.

Comments about LR Baggs Anthem Tru-Mic Acoustic Microphone/Piezo Pickup System:

I had the Anthem unit installed in my Breedlove C20 SM. I did go to the LR Baggs web site and learned about the Anthem system, and that helped me get the best sound with it. I had a guitar tech do the install as I am strictly an end-user. Inside the soundhole is the module containing the volume and blend adjustments and the battery check button. The mic sensitivity can be adjusted via a trim pot on the module. No EQ adjustment, and so far that appears to be unnecessary. My guitar has a rich, robust low end, and the Anthem projects it beautifully. The web site stated that the control module actually contains a crossover circuit that sends frequencies lower than 250 hz to the piezo pickup. Once I understood that, it made dialing in a great sound even easier. On my guitar, the full mic setting is spacious, articulate, and airy. The low end isn't what I'd call flabby, but sort of soft and undefined. By blending in some of the peizo pickup, the low frequencies amplified by the piezo add a nice crispness to the low notes. The sound I'm getting is very natural, and BIG. My other guitar has a Fishman Classic 4 piezo pickup/preamp system which sounds pretty good...but not nearly as natural as the Anthem. This is a well thought-out, well-engineered pickup that makes my guitar sound like...my guitar!

I have installed after market electronics in acoustic guitars, upgrade electric, Gibson, Taylor, Martin, Epiphone, Fender. I have to express thanks and kudos to L.R. Baggs. This was my first LR B installation it it was a home run. The transducer leads are shielded. That is an awesome thing when dealing with different bracing configurations and geometry for mixed transducer or microphone applications. Absolutletely no noise on first go, no adjustments needed. This was on a Martin HD-35 so to say it improved the guitar sound is a N/A. Tone, volume, mix adjustment and compatibility with amp is superb. Definitely a super set up and Easy.

I installed the Anthem myself on my 2009 Martin HD-35. Taking it slow and easy, it took about 2 hours. LR is very clear they do not recommend user installations and do not warrant the product unless professionally installed. I used a hand reamer bought on Amazon and opened the strap button hole carefully to 1/2". I used a flashlight in a dark room to find the bracing when I drilled the bridge for the under saddle PU. Everything went smooth. I hooked it up to a PA (A&H mixer with JBL 515XT mains), man what a sound! It just shimmers and shines on the high end and rattles the drum kit on the low end. Ii really like the amount of control you have with the sound hole mounted controls. It is not a cheap system but if you want great sound with great feedback resistance, this is for you.

Comments about LR Baggs Anthem Tru-Mic Acoustic Microphone/Piezo Pickup System:

Improved my sound over my old rare earth Fishmann soundhole pickup. I didn't like the sound hole unit because it was harder to humidify my guitar and it was kinda easy to knock the pickup out of place. The Anthem sounds great and was relatively easy to install, but not if you are a novice DIYer. First unit didn't work, it was the undersaddle pickup that didn't function. Musician's Friend was great about replacing the entire unit hassle-free. I could not have asked for an easier replacement experience. I am glad I made the switch - sound has greatly improved.

Comments about LR Baggs Anthem Tru-Mic Acoustic Microphone/Piezo Pickup System:

This pickup has the best sound reproduction I have ever heard. I initially could not tell my guitar was amplified because it sounded so natural, I may convert my other guitars to this system when I get the chance.

Very nice. A slight background white noise though.

A great sound! Only con is some background white noise. I think I just need to figure out how to ground the wires to the guitar better to solve that though.

I've bought two. Tried the K&K mini for a 3rd guitar. Took it out, put in another LR Baggs Tru-Mic. BOOM! Problem solved. If there's better, it must be a well-kept secret.

Comments about LR Baggs Anthem Tru-Mic Acoustic Microphone/Piezo Pickup System:

The LR Baggs Anthem is the best amplified acoustic tone I've experienced, hands down. I have worked with Fishman, Taylor Expression, etc. and I look nowhere else but Baggs Anthem now. I have a nicely matured Taylor 514 with the expression system that I had essentially stopped using because it sounded so awful through a PA. I finally swapped out to the Anthem and the tone is amazing! Warm, natural, just the right punch and brightness- paired with a Baggs Venue DI its a fantastic combo. I have a friend who is a professional musician who plays all custom built high end acoustic and he also uses this system exclusively. This is worth the cost you pay above other systems!
