I purchased this unit as a replacement for the pre-amp on my 15+ year old Takamine, for which the specific unit was no longer produced. It was recommended by the technician to whom I took it for repair. The unit arrived quickly and my tech rerouted the wiring in my guitar from the pickup directily to it's output, bypassing the faulty onboard preamp. The guitar sounds better than ever going through the Gigpro to my PA system. (Sorry Takamine, but it does.)
I mounted the unit on a mic stand with the provided clip and screws. It comes with a belt attachment which I have not used yet. I like to be able to better view the settings and use a 3 ft. cable from the guitar for a connection to the unit. Then an appropriate cable plugged into the "out" 1/4" jack to my PA. Works very well for me.
Plan to get a Seymour Duncan Woody for my acoustic guitars and run that through the Gigpro as well.
The unit has more features than the onboard preamp on my Takamine that it replaced.
Gain, trim, and the usual bass, treble and volume.
Some of the knobs are a bit hard to use on the bottom of the unit, but once dialed in, no further adjustment was needed.
This thing is rugged. Good steel case with large volume control and medium sized bass and treble controls. My technician recommended it based on his own experience with the unit. He has used it for several years and swears by it. He claims battery replacement is infrequent. So far, he is right.
Can't beat the price when compared to the cost of replacement onboard units.

Not worth the cost of shipping

I purchased this item and promptly returned it. It is cheaply built, sounds cheap, adds noise and not much in the way of volume or tone control.

Comments about LR Baggs Gigpro Acoustic Guitar Preamp:

I've been carting mine around for about 10 years and have never had a problem. Use it with my SC Woody on my Martin D-28, on my piezo ukuleles and my other under saddle guitars for live performances. Once you memorize the knob settings for each instrument it's a joy to have around. I wear it on my belt sitting down so have to keep track of the volume because sometimes the level will get "butt-dialed". Don't trust the battery LED. Volume will decrease long before that red thing diminishes.

Comments about LR Baggs Gigpro Acoustic Guitar Preamp:

The Gigpro is an answer to a problem I have in that I have a very high quality acoustic guitar with a pickup, but without controls! This allows me to play the instrument through amplifiers or sound systems with some controls on my person. It would be much easier to use if the screws that hold the belt-clip on didn't have to be removed to replace the battery. That is a design flaw.

Comments about LR Baggs Gigpro Acoustic Guitar Preamp:

Handy gadget no noise in the signel and easily boost single levels. Wide range in the bass and treble controls. I use it on my Mando with an on the body pickup. The sound is dynamic and the strings are bright and clear. A preamp that clips on the strap is a great idea.

            Gigpro Preamp

            By Rob Lane

            from Orange Beach, Alabama

Comments about LR Baggs Gigpro Acoustic Guitar Preamp:

This unit is like carrying my own little soundboard on my belt. With volume, eq, trim and gain controls, I have the ability to customize my sound for consistency in every place I play. Supports my passive pickup better than many installed preamp/pickups I have played.
I use my Gigpro outdoors and in very enclosed indoor venues. It performs beautifully in either extreme. I love the multiple adjustments on the unit that give me the ability to customize my sound for every situation.
Very well made, tough and easy to operate. If MF sells it I trust it.
No better price anywhere. I checked.

            LR Baggs Gigpro and Fiddle

            By Todd Toman

            from Kansas

Comments about LR Baggs Gigpro Acoustic Guitar Preamp:

If you are looking for an easy to understand and use preamp for your electric violin I recommend the LR Baggs Gigpro. I use the gigpro with my electric fiddle equiped with a LR Baggs bridge. Cut the highs and add a little reverb and you'll have a great sounding fiddle.
Easy to use just follow the instructions in the booklet.
Built with sturdy metal case, very durable.
I own both the Gigpro and the LR Baggs Para Acoustic DI. Both are well worth the investment.

Comments about LR Baggs Gigpro Acoustic Guitar Preamp:

This preamp is nicely built metal case. You need to adjust it properly for good sound, but the manual gives you a bit of a hint on that. It appears that the tone controls just boost the bass and treble since the flattest response was with the tone controls set near all the way down. Frequency response well above any dog's hearing!Works well with my mando and Radius pickup.

            Very Useful Tool

            By Mark N. Johnson

            from Macon, GA

Comments about LR Baggs Gigpro Acoustic Guitar Preamp:

I own two of these. One I use with my Dobro using a Lace Sensor Resonator neck pickup and the other I use with my mandolin using a Fishman Bridge with built in pickup. The Gig pro gives me the boost I need to keep up with the active pickup systems that most of the guitarist I play with use. The Bass and Treble controls allow me to shape the sound just enough to keep the Dobro and Mandolin sounding like a Dobro and Mandolin when they are amplified. The volume control is also very handy for giving me just a little extra for solo's and the gain control allows me to match the gig pro with the output of my pickups to prevent distortion. I've never used it for Guitar because my Martin has an active pickup system but I won't even try to amplify my mandolin and dobro without it.
