This is a great device. I highly recommend. IMHO it is a bit over priced. But make no mistake it does a great job and is built a little better then most other similar devices.

It REALLY ought to come with an AC power supply/transformer... it does not and on that note... if you choose to use an AC power supply/transformer as opposed to 9V batteries all the time... THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT

    WARNING WARNING WARNING
This device requires an AC power supply/transformer 9VDC w/100mA (or 1 Watt Min)

    THIS IS THE IMPORATANT PART
The POLARITY IS BACKWARDS from about 90% of the rest of the world.

The POSITIVE (+) must be on the outside of the tip and the GROUND (-) on the inside. BE SURE you purchase and/or use the correct power and plug configuration or YOU WILL FRY your new Venue DI Direct Box.

That's just another reason it should come with a factory supplied power supply.

My 3rd try to submit my review- why not publish the ones that aren't so glowing guys?PROs: boost is okay, boss 9v powerable, has DI and adjustable gain structure. Transparent acoustic toneCONs: boost could be more than 9db, could use a second quarter-inch out, EQ does little to change the tone, TUNER IS EXTREMELY SLOW and not very useful and I have an electric acoustic with a very strong signal/pickup. This unit is overpriced and not all it's cracked up to be. Sent it back. MF good about returns, as always, at least.

Comments about LR Baggs Venue DI Direct Box:

This box is exactly what it claims to be- a very easy-to-use direct box with plenty of variables for dialing in your sound. I would have preferred that this unit have a low-z output option like the regular L.R.Baggs direct box that we all use.
For the price, that should have been a no-brainer.
Outside of that, this is a GREAT direct box. Highly recommended.

Comments about LR Baggs Venue DI Direct Box:

I use this for an electric violin and it solved all my sound related problems.

First of all the Equalizer is amazing. Electric violins usually have very metallic sound and very hi treble, and it's hard to balance it out with a normal amp. with the EQ on the Venue DI I made it sound like a classical violin.

My second problem was that my instrument has a passive pickup and that results in a very low volume. The gain and volume controls gave me a lot more sound than I expected without loosing quality even when using the boost button.

It's grate that It has line out (that I use for my amp) and a balanced XLR output to pug in to the sound console of wherever I'm playing. I love the fact that the direct box, Eq and preamp are all in one because I control how I want my instrument to sound without having to carry extra equipment (just the Venue DI and my amp). All I tell the sound guy is to send it to the main speakers and I don't have to depend on him for it to sound good.

One of the main complaints that I have read is that it dose not have a power button. technically it's true, but if you unplug the cable from the input (that is the cable that goes straight from your instrument to the venue) it powers off, even if it's plugged in or using battery.

Excellent DI box! I've been using the LR Baggs Para DI box for several years. I was hesitant to try anything else. I bought the venue and I'll be continuing to use it. There are so many tone shaping abilities. The boost pedal is also a useful feature.

I REALLY DO LIKE the mute, the tuner, the eq/effects, the illumination, the sturdy switches, the size and shape.

I REALLY DO NOT LIKE there's only 1 input (s/b 2 inputs), using batteries, there's no power supply included (for this price a really nice power supply should be included),

Comments about LR Baggs Venue DI Direct Box:

Actually bought this on two recommendations. LR Baggs Para DI already has a rep for it's overall worthyness for violin. And Jean-Luc Ponty sings it's praise in a video interview at the D'Addario Bowed website.
I use this on a solid body totally acrylic violin, the Crossbow, made by Ted Brewer in England. It's Ashworth pickup is very low gain and benefits well from the EQ. My vintage Barcus has plenty of gain and is well balanced without the Venue.

I don't know why some people say that the boost is inadequate, I find I have plenty and I use mine at least 5 gigs a week and have owned it for several years now and I play in extremely hot, humid, salty, sandy and otherwise harsh environments. It's easy on batteries, quiet, musical and works for me.

                Great product

                By Brian Dumm

                from pennsylvania

Comments about LR Baggs Venue DI Direct Box:

i am using this di with a gibson songwriter, and i'm very glad i spent the money on it. the natural sound of my gibson is so amazing, that i've often thought about using mics to amplify it for live performances. however, due to the nature of the music i play and the others on stage with me, this is way to impractical. i find that with all the eq options of the lr baggs venue di, i can achieve sounds MUCH closer to the natural sound of my guitar when running through an amp or the PA. i've tried a couple other preamps, and di boxes, and this one is my favorite by FAR. the boost is plenty loud enough, (not sure why another reviewer rated it sub-par). i agree that a second input would be an awesome addition...provided you wanted to use the same sound mix for both instraments. my second on stage instrament is a banjo however, but being able to hit the mute switch on the venue di when i put down my guitar is a must for me...and the tuner is right on and a great addition as well.

Very Well Thought Through, A Bit Overpriced

                By Danny Carvalho

                from Kailua, HI

Comments about LR Baggs Venue DI Direct Box:

This is among the best acoustic DI's I've used. The build quality seems about the same as the Para DI?I actually prefer the feel of the knobs on the Para DI, these feel a little cheap in comparison. What separates it from the Para is that this is a COMPLETE PACKAGE?it has everything you need, besides maybe dual inputs. Playing through the Venue actually helped me get a better sound out of my Para, because the VU meter allowed me to get an optimal gain setting. The added hi-mid control makes a huge difference, because the brightness of an acoustic guitar usually comes from the 2k-2.5k freq range, which is covered by the Venue and missing from the Para.My biggest complaint is the price. The Para DI is less, and an additional tuner is cheap?add a boost and that?s still less than the Venue. That said, the features are very well thought through, and I would recommend it if you don't already have a tuner and a Para. But if you have those two, it may not be worth the upgrade.
