Comments about Ludwig Atlas Pro Double Pedal:

Been playin for around 40 yrs. and have played DW 9000's,Axis,Pearl,Tama,and Ludwig. All these pedals are great, but for some reason this pedal got to me instantly! It's built like a tank and smooth as a racehorse. Yea! it's got power too! Tried the short chains and raised the footboard. Now I can really kick that Ludwig 26" bass drum!!!

Comments about Ludwig Atlas Pro Double Pedal:

I like the simplicity being the way Ludwig put it all together. It's a no brainer. I wish Ludwig would have made the heel plate option like the old speed kings. I also wish they had two different models or versions of this pedal system being a direct drive model or Chain. The beaters are a tad heavy and kind of bulky. I use different beaters on my 24"X18" kick. I think the size of the drum plays a roll in the definition as well. On smaller drums the larger heavier beaters would sound much better for me I think. The shaft that connects the slave pedal has no slop in it what so ever. The red universal connections on it are nice and large compared to all other shafts I have seen but most important there is not play in it at all and this is cool because I am so used to the left foot slave pedal for example, on many pedals will have some play or movement in it. Sometimes I think that there is so much play in a shaft on other pedals, if I could microphone up to the universal joint for the sound of the shaft it would sound like a single stroke roll and then the beater hitting the drum becomes the accent. For many years I have wanted Ludwig to step up and produce a modern day speed king. They finally did it accept that it is not direct drive and there is no heal plate option like the old speed kings. If you wish to use two bass drums though you will need to buy another single Atlas pedal because you cannot separate the slave pedal to use it by itself because there is no place to mount a beater on it. I would compare this pedal to the DW 9000 since it does have bearings in it that make it smooth operating. I have owned DW9000, Pearl Eliminators , Tama Iron Cobras, DW5000, Trick pedals. I have used a few. I wish that Ludwig made this system in Strap, Direct drive (like an original speed king) as opposed to only chain. The chain on this system sits on a cam which does have a very quick response. My pedals I have used for the last decade are the Yamaha Flying Dragons in direct drive. I like the way Ludwig though made the bass hoop clamp in the respect it is friendly to your drums hoop and you can snug it with ease because that part of it is not under the plate but off to the side. Some people have complained that this pedal wasn't made in America. For me, if I use this system for it's intended use it will probably out live me. As for the "made across the water" factor, I ask you to look at everything else you own and see how much of it is actually made in America. All in all I am very pleased with this pedal system. It's a keeper. I also think the Ludwig Atlas hardware line it a winner. Honestly, in most cases "the pedal is no better than the person using it"
