Comments about Mackie Rackmount Bracket Set for 1202-VLZ Pro & VLZ3:

Works perfect, helps the 1202 sit in a "big boy" rack although maybe looking a little dorky but like Mackie says, the rack ears they sell work better than your girlfriends purse and that's all that really matters. I highly recommend.

They're good, but waste rack space

Comments about Mackie Rackmount Bracket Set for 1202-VLZ Pro & VLZ3:

A set of rack ears is such a simple product, so it is hard to understand how anyone could screw it up. But Mackie found a way. To be fair, the ears themself are quite durable, well made, easy to install, and accurately machined. The problem is how they work together with the mixer. (Mine is a 1202-VLZ3.) The mixer has a silver-color handle-like feature on the front end, which one obviously would want to remove when installing in a rack. It was easy enough to remove 2 sets of screws that are visible from the outside, but then I discovered that there was a third set of screws that attach to the handle from the inside. In order to remove those screws, I would have to remove the circuit board, which also would require removing every knob and switch from the control surface. The knobs did not easily come off and I could not see a set screw or other fastener holding them on, so I judged it too risky to continue trying to remove the handle.

This causes the unit to occupy one more rack space than necessary. If I had been successful removing the handle, I would then have to drill new holes in the rack ears, as the mounting holes will then not line up with the rack holes in the new position. (Only about 2/3 of that wasted rack space is at the bottom.)

My assessment about the wasting of rack space does take into consideration that you need space for making connections on the "back" (top, when mounted in a vertical rack) panel of the mixer.
