Play Happy at a Great Price!

The price and my curiosity overcame my doubts and I ordered a few sets of FX740 Phosopher Bronze 12's. It was a nice surprise and I quickly ordered a dozen more. They stay tuned, are easy on the fingers and fretboard, great tone and overtones when amped are bold! Even when I double capo the harmonics are right on pitch... Get some -

I have used composite 'silk & steel' strings for over 20 years on my 68 Martin Brazilian D35 12string and for 10 years on my Heritage 355 acoustic electric. I love the warm rich tones and easy fingering. Get some - Play Happy at a Great Price! When I read Martin was producing a 'flexible' core all steel string I was skeptical concerning tension and issues with capo's.

I wanted to try these a LONG time... im sorry I did, but at least I got to try.To quote the info on the Package as well as the hype...a thinner core gives greater player control increased flexibility, and improved harmonic response great flexibility ect great for transitioning from electric to acoustic and super great for beginning players. What???? I found none of this true at all! Stiff as a board I would say UNFLEXIBLE is the word. I wondered if they put the wrong strings in the box!!! Hard to play or maneuver around on! Tone sound nothing special at all..i don't get it but im very disappointed. You woud assume they would be somewhat soft similar to silk and steel and easy to play they are not.!
supposedly easy to bend and slide around with... nope not for me I will go back to Dadarrios custom lights they do what the Martins claim to do. I think the description was written for them by a freelance writer and it sounded good but not true... imo unplayable.. not worth it..disappointed...

Comments about Martin FX740 Phosphor Bronze Acoustic Light Guitar Strings:

Recently tried these strings on my Martin OMCA4 .
A relief on my fingers and my hand doesn't cramp up playing long gigs. The added plus is these Strings sound great acoustically as well as plugged into an amp.

Haven't experienced breakage/snapping while playing / changing strings as mentioned in a prior review.

I will also give the FX 80/20 lights a try on my acoustic/electric. From the reviews they also seem like a good first or second choice.

      Martin FX Strings

      By oneill

Comments about Martin FX740 Phosphor Bronze Acoustic Light Guitar Strings:

Sounds good but seriously needs a quality check
I have bought these strings for years and thought they sounded great and loved them but recently every time I buy a new set of strings they snap for no reason. Not while im playing or while i was tuning. This has happened about 3-4 times in a row where I can't play my guitar due to the strings snapping within a day, like my D and G strings, which really have no reason to break at all

      great guitar strings

Comments about Martin FX740 Phosphor Bronze Acoustic Light Guitar Strings:

Overall I wouldn't use any other strings unless I have no choice
I love these Martin guitar strings, Very seldom that I would use another brand (only if I can't get the martins) They are light enough to get that crisp sound the way all acoustic acoustics should sound, and you can get the low bass tone also, For the price I don't think you could get a better product, If you have never tried them, You should go out and get a set, You will be pleasantly surprised
Like there guitars, The strings have the same quality
The price is great, Like I wrote above, You can't beat the price

      Outstanding tone

      By Greg Boiarsky

Comments about Martin FX740 Phosphor Bronze Acoustic Light Guitar Strings:

I haven't notice any increase in playability, but the tone of these strings is superior to anything else I've tried. They have a pleasant buzz and excellent note separation when played with a pick or fingerstyle. They last just as long as any other uncoated string. If you can get them on sale, they're a bargain.
These can be the best value on the market.

Best Strings After Trying Dozens of Strings

Comments about Martin FX740 Phosphor Bronze Acoustic Light Guitar Strings:

      Hard to beat for sound/value
I have tried all kinds of strings. I consider the FX 80/20 to have the best sound for the dollar that last the longest. When they first go on, they have insanely powerful. In 2-3 weeks you lose some of the projection but they wear so well that I don't notice any change in overall sound for 4-5 weeks at least. I have had some sets on those guitars I play less for 2-3 months and they sound decent.

Buy four every six months and you are done. The tension is so low that it is great for fingerstyle and they just don't buzz. Buy a set of mediums with more sound and less tension that the average pair of lights. Lots of projection and great sound for a great price per set??? No brainer!

And if watch the sales, I picked these up on sale! 10 boxes a year and I'm good!
      Last forever
      Best bang for buck

      Just the 4 high strings...

      By Mellowman

      from NJ

Comments about Martin FX740 Phosphor Bronze Acoustic Light Guitar Strings:

I recently bought a Martin 000-28EC and decided to do an exhaustive search for the best strings for it. So I went through about 20 sets from Martin, Gibson, D'add, Ernie Ball, John Pearse, DR, Everly and Red. What I've concluded is that strings are perhaps more important than the guitar itself. I have now become a string snob, and these FX Phosphor Bronze lights are now my go to strings, but sadly not for all 6 strings. The D and G strings are to die for, just an awesome etchy buzz that brings life to the guitar. The plain steels are just as nice as any of the others I found, I think. But the A and low E strings are too fuzzy for my taste. I like a clean focused bass, and I don't think phosphor bronze can do that. 80/20 or 85/15 is what should be there in my opinion, because they deaden quickly, and I think those 2 strings should be allowed to die and kept dead while changing only the other 4. And dead strings can be any strings, so I won't recommend any brands. I didn't try the FX 80/20 but that may be the perfect combo for the other 4 strings for reasons of feel.

      Just OK

      By RockNBlues

      from Detroit

Comments about Martin FX740 Phosphor Bronze Acoustic Light Guitar Strings:

They were cheap and the flexible core idea was interesting so I bought a couple of sets. After a couple of hours playing, I can't say that I notice any big difference in playability. What I do notice is all treble, no bass. The quality is OK for the price but they are not something I would buy again.
