I have an Encore classical guitar I bought from a pawn shop many years ago as a beater/camping/knock around. Trust me it has been knocked around and used as a toy for grandkids to mess with and a place for sticky stickers that came in junk mail. As the original strings would break I replaced them with any used leftover metal strings from my Telecaster. A change of heart caused me to rescue this critter with a new Tusg nut /new tuning keys, thorough cleaning and a set of these Martin (silver) m120 plain end strings...with a Tusq bridge in it's future..we have nice playing and sounding little guitar. She shined up real nice and I'd take her to the prom ! I have used Martin electric strings on my 72 Tele also and really like them. I would reccomend giving these strings a shot. You can't get a happy meal for this kinda money (teehee)

The strings felt amazing the moment I pulled them out of the package. The were very silky and smooth, and I really loved the silver finish on them. Unfortunately, I never got to even get them up to tension, because the D string unwound itself before I could get it to pitch, and the high E string broke where it met the bridge. There was enough winding at the top for me to still use the high E but it would have made the string have very few windings around the post which could cause intonation problems.

In short, I was really excited about these strings but they just didn't met my expectations. I still give them three stars because the strings seem like they would have been amazing if they hadn't broken. Maybe I just got a lemon?

          1 atypical problem:

          BACKORDER!

It would have been much better to know they were out of stock BEFORE I paid. I had to wait 3 weeks... and of course they got lost in the mail, another 2 weeks.

Thanks to great help from MF CUSTOMER SERVICE, they finally arrived.

I am still upset that the out-of-stock situation wasn't noted until AFTER the paymanet was made. I'm sure MF's inventory system is capable of more current information.

          Good strings

Comments about Martin M120 Silverplated Classical Acoustic Guitar Strings:

I am impresses with the Martin classical guitar strings (high tension), and recommend them to anyone wanting good strings at a price that others cannot compete with.
I appreciate the silver windings on the bass strings.
I put these on my Yamaha GL1 Guitelele, and I am impressed. The third string sounds darker than the others, but that was also my experience with my classical guitar strung up with Savarez expensive strings. I question whether you will really gain anything by buying the more expensive strings. Incidentally, I put some Ernie Ball strings on a friend's classical guitar (the Martin strings were unavailable at my local store), and I was not impressed at all with the results. Perhaps it was the guitar, but I sure wish I had the Martin strings on hand.
If you have a $2,000 classical guitar, put on Savarez strings. If your instrument cost less than that, try the Martin strings.
For the money, the Martin classical strings cannot be beaten. They could have been priced at twice the price, and still compete (Martin Company: do not read this!)

          Don't buy these strings

Comments about Martin M120 Silverplated Classical Acoustic Guitar Strings:

I hate to be the guy to make your product search harder, but these strings really suck, I don't know why they're rated so high. They have a weird chorus-like tone to them, which sounds like garbage and makes it harder to tune. Also, 2 strings broke on me while installing! Unbelievable! I'm probably going back to D'Addarios or Ernie Balls...I'm so angry.

          Wrapped in Elven silver?

Comments about Martin M120 Silverplated Classical Acoustic Guitar Strings:

I bought this beautiful little 1979 Conn C-100 classical guitar at a garage sale. My buddy and I enjoy converting classic rock songs into Spanish/flamingo style. I told him I was going to order some strings and he asked me to grab him some too. My strings arrived and I could not believe the tone! From the deep bass tones to the ring of the highs, amazing! Was it my new guitar? I grabbed my buddy s guitar and installed his set of strings, he owns a mid 70's Yamaha , old beat up ,take anywhere guitar. Holy cow... IT'S THE STRINGS!!! Make no mistake! It's got to be Silver!

These strings are excellent. Perfectly balanced. Excellent punch, clarity, tone, volume and feel. Like someone else on here, I've used everything from La Bella's (garbage) to high end Savarez that cost four to five times the price. These are definitely the best. Just get 'em, no one will be disappointed with these strings.

Martin M120 Silverplated Classical Guitar Strings

Comments about Martin M120 Silverplated Classical Acoustic Guitar Strings:

I've been using these strings for a few years now and I really like them. They have a crisp, nice tone when used with both my Yamaha classical and my Takamine acoustic-electric cutaway classical. I tried switching to D'Addario Pro-Arte EJ45's which are okay but don't induce that "Wow, I love that sound" feeling in me. I like to play the music of Tarrega which uses a lot of harmonics which the Martins produce well. A good product at a good price.

          What a good purchase

Comments about Martin M120 Silverplated Classical Acoustic Guitar Strings:

First, I have to say thank to all of reviewers who encouraged me to place the order. Second, I have to say that musiciansfriend.con is such a great site for all of musical needs. Finally, I have to tell whoever seeing this that you don't need to search for anything else but this strings. Like the other reviews, I have wasted a lot of money on expensive but cheap strings. What a good feeling when your guitar turns out an amazing one after put these strings on. The quality of these strings is exactly what I have expected. The three bass strings are beyond what you could imagine. I could have spent even more for the price to get this quality. I often spend $30 for strings at local music stores. This set beats everything. I know I found the right one now. Now, I am going to purchase 6 sets of these strings for $30 because I would have spend that much anyway like I did.Folks! Get these and blame on me if you don't like it. From now on, only Martin M120 on my list for strings.

          Amazing tone

          By rickster1

Comments about Martin M120 Silverplated Classical Acoustic Guitar Strings:

I've wasted allot of hard earned money on the latest and greatest wonder strings. To my ears nothing beats Martin 80/20 bronze for an acoustic steel string and M120 nylon strings for classical guitars, the very reasonable price is just a bonus, not the reason for choosing them. Getting balanced volume and tone between the wound and clear nylon strings is tricky business and the Martin M120's are at the top of the heap. You can be sure you are getting the best tone from your guitar when using these strings and that's a big deal.
