I've been using the Marin M170's for about six years now and, no matter how I try, I can't find another string that works as well for acoustic guitar. They are bright, "phat", responsive, and have good overall tone. The only negative that I've found is that you have to change them a little more frequently; but at the price, that's not too painful.

Not a terrible string. These strings are weak on sound/tone & some of this is due to the lighter gauge which I expected some loss but it was more than expected. They do seem to be strong & they don't sound bad, they are just weak on output. I will probably try the light gauge next time instead of these extra light. It really depends on the type of music you play & your style as Martin does make quality strings but these are not really for me.

Comments about Martin M170 80/20 Bronze Extra Light Acoustic Guitar Strings:

I ordered two sets of these strings for replacements when needed on my Sigma flat-top guitar. But I just bought an Ibanez Expressionist arch-top which came with flat wound strings that felt like I was playing steel cables. I replaced those with these on the Ibanez against a friends advice and I was pleasantly surprised at the result. They sound great and feel great. I don't know how long they will last yet, but they don't cost much, so that's not a big problem.

Comments about Martin M170 80/20 Bronze Extra Light Acoustic Guitar Strings:

I use these strings on both of my acoustic guitars and even use them on my two solid bridge electrics. They have a great sound to them, and shine well with my play style. I usually keep a few new sets around for just in case I have a breakage during detuned sessions or over zealous playing, but they still usually last around four to six months of aggressive string attacks with a pick. Definately worth the money in my opinion.

These strings are so easy to fret and bend, while offering a consistant and bright tone. They are great for all players, especially those of us just playing at home for fun.It is getting hard to fret medium strings for me, so I switched to the extra light and now my fingertips don't hurt anymore. My Takamine now frets like a Taylor.

I bought these for a ~13 year old student of mine, for what appears to be a 1/2 size guitar, they are much easier to play for her than the more common gauges.
