Comments about Martin M200 12-String Acoustic Folk Guitar Silk and Steel Round Wound Strings:

First off, I'm not a fan of PhosBronze strings. Never have been, never will be. I've always preferred nickel, steel or Monel wound. My hands perspire when playing/performing and PhosBronzes just doesn't react well or last any time with my skin oils/perspiration. These Martins fit the ticket at a great price and can't be beat. They last longer than I'd expect for such a low cost string. I've used these on my 12 string for a long time. The 12 isn't my main instrument in our performances, but is used a couple of times during each set. Buy a set and you won't be disappointed.

Comments about Martin M200 12-String Acoustic Folk Guitar Silk and Steel Round Wound Strings:

Silk and steel strings were the gold standard during the folk era of the 60s.

Their lush timbre, somewhere between steel and nylon strings, blends beautifully with vocals. They're especially nice on 12-strings. If you play a 12-string guitar and and sing. you owe it to yourself to try these.

The lower tension of the silk-wound strings makes them easier on your fingers, and the rounder, mellower bass has been music to a lot of people's ears for a lot of years.

There's a reason they never stopped making them - they do what they do better than any other string.

These extra light strings are good for performing. I'm currently using them to record. They have a great feel and nice sound! I'm very happy with them.

Great product. Have been using for years. Bright sound. Easy on the fingers. Unfortunately, Musician's Friend has a lousy shipping method. Box arrived crushed and strings were bent.

I have always been impressed with the rich, mellow tone of these strings. When recording there is no problem keeping the dynamic range within a nice parameter (without any "jingley" highs or muddy bottom). For thier value and quality, you can't beat them!

Comments about Martin M200 12-String Acoustic Folk Guitar Silk and Steel Round Wound Strings:

I have played 12-string guitars for many years, using phosphor bronze strings. In recent years I had gotten away from playing my 12-string much because the sound was just too bright and tinny. I decided to try these silk and steel strings on my Fender 12-string guitar and I absolutely love them! It now has a much warmer, sweet, mellow tone. I have fallen in love with my 12-string guitar all over again and find myself really enjoying playing it a lot more. Silk and steel will be my choice from now on!

Comments about Martin M200 12-String Acoustic Folk Guitar Silk and Steel Round Wound Strings:

If you look at the string gauges, you'll notice that the differences between the main strings and the octave strings are just a bit closer to each other than on something more conventional like the Martin MSP4600s, which I've also used and liked. Along with those gauge differences, the main difference is with the high E pair: 11.5s instead of the 10s on the 4600s. So, with all of that and the difference in the material (silk & steel vs. PB), I think the sound is a bit more compressed and less "jangly" than the 4600s. The phrase that came to me (and my ears) is that I hear "more of the guitar and less of the strings"—which, as with all things guitar, will be really right or really wrong for you.

These strings are the ones I used most frequently on my Fishman-equipped Martin D12-1 (12-string) after I bought it new in 1996. The silk and steel helps with ease of playing, a definite asset when playing barre chords on a 12-string in standard tuning. The strings yield a sweet, mellow tone which impressed my sound guy who was initially skeptical about 12-strings. These strings have been a trusted friend for years.
