OVERVIEW

Ultrahigh-performance strings at an everyday price.

Gauges 11-15-23-32-42-52.

Rich tone should last as long as the inspiration does. Built on Martin's durable SP core wire, Martin SP Lifespan strings are the next level in studio and stage performance. Now with a more advanced proprietary treatment from America' legendary guitar builder, SP Lifespan strings repel dirt, grit and other environmental elements that can quickly alter the sound of your strings. All six strings are treated to ensure a longer life. Martin developed a new and advanced method to treat strings, resulting in a process that ensures both the core and wrap are protected from corrosion. The molecular level treatment adds almost no mass to the string, will not flake or peel, and does not alter the vibration pattern like some string coatings can. The high-tensile strength SP core wire resists breakage and holds tunings longer “ a perfect match to the treatment in creating a long life string. SP Lifespans are designed to last longer and sound better so you can play on.

I play a Gibson 'Artist Hummingbird' as a soloist and I've been using the Martin MSP4200 (which are similar but heavier gauge at 12 to 54) for a couple years but wanted to go a little lighter so that I could play 4 sets with less pain to my finger tips. These strings are just right. Nice tone, they play in tune, well balanced in volume and are easier on the fingers. Any lighter and you'd give up some tone and have tuning issues. These will be my regular strings. I change strings often so I can always have good tone so if you want longevity in your strings, maybe the coated ones are what you'd prefer but I think you give up some tone using coated strings. Martin strings seem to be the best in my experience. I've tried Dean Markley and D'Addario (they're ok). I have not tried Elixer becuase they are priced too high and I don't value longevity which seems to be their selling point. I think it's better to buy strings that are higher in value and change them before each gig or 2.

I've been using Elixir strings for the last several years, and hoped these would be a less-expensive alternative. These strings have a very nice, bright sound, but a very pronounced hand squeak, which never went away, despite the application of Fingerease. They're advertised as being long-lasting, but they oxidized pretty quickly on a guitar that spends most of it's time in a plush case, and is always wiped down after playing. Maybe i've been spoiled by the Elixirs, but given the Martin name, I was disappointed. Back to the Elixirs.

These Martin strings have an awesome sound. I didn't expect them to sound so good for the low price they cost. I was extremely surprised how great the sound was. Love them & have ordered another set for backup...

I started using these about a month or so ago after having bad experiences with Fender strings that would not hold their tone. I recently acquired a 1999 Fender DG 20S and, these strings sound great on it along with holding it in tune as well. They're also long lasting as well. I won't use anything else.
