I don't usually take the time to write reviews but I felt I had to this once.

I purchased a used and very cheap Ibanez Talman TY10 electric acoustic for my daughter. The strings looked like they were 10 years old so replaced them with a generic, medium weight set of phosphor bronze strings. I use the same strings on my Washburn jumbo acoustic and they sound and play fine. Replacing rusty, frayed old strings with anything new obviously made a big difference to the sound of the Talman but I was really disappointed in how weak the guitar sounded - it is a very small, compact guitar but has little projection and the tone was pretty terrible. I was about ready to resell the guitar when I remembered back to trying out a new Talman TY10 in a guitar store and how light the strings felt - that guitar sounded and played much better. Based on some other reviews I decided to try the Martin SP Phosphor Bronze Extra Lights - what a HUGE difference it made to the quality of the sound - sweet ringing tone and it surprisingly made the guitar sound deeper which it desperately needed. I was truly shocked at the improvement. The lightness also suits the guitar from a playability standpoint. I always thought strings was strings and differences were subtle at best - not so. I'll be trying different gauges of Martin SPs on my other guitars to see if I get the same jump in sound quality.

Bottom line is if you have cheap sounding little guitar, for a minimal investment of less than 6 bucks, try these strings and see if you get the same dramatic improvements in sound and playability that I got.
For only a couple of dollars more than the cheapest strings these are a bargain given the improvement in sound.

I'm sorry, but no. I bought three sets of these because of a sale, and I figured "the Marquis strings were nice. Why not these?" I enjoyed the Marquis strings by Martin okay, but these are horrible. I string them up and they sound and feel great, but after two days of general playing, they are terrible; grimy, rusty, scratchy, tearing up my fingerboard. I would consider having them as a backup, but only if necessary. And far as I can tell, they don't seem to break easy, even though I play acoustic .10s. However, while they stay strong, their life goes out in no more than forty-eight hours.

You're probably thinking "you just got a dud set." I can assure you, this is not true. The first set I bought, I used to restring a friend's guitar. They died in about a week. Then I bought the three sets as the deal, and sets one and two have died comepletely in no more than two days. I cannot pick up any new sets this week, and I'm playing in a wedding in a couple days, so I'm saving the third set to put on at the last minute.

I wish I could recommend these, and I'm not a negative person, but honestly, I cannot stand these strings.

Finally, my search is over...

Comments about Martin MSP4000 SP Phosphor Bronze Extra Light Acoustic Guitar Strings:

I love these Martin MSP4000 Phosphor Bronze Extra Light Acoustic Guitar Strings. I have tried several types of strings on my Washburn Cumberland Jumbo 6-string. These strings are my last stop. They sound great, stay in tune, improve intonation, and the price is right. I play finger-style and these are easy on the fingers and allow ease of control of pitch and sustain. Try these first unless you enjoy spending alot of money on changing out strings.

Best strings so far

Comments about Martin MSP4000 SP Phosphor Bronze Extra Light Acoustic Guitar Strings:

As a beginner, I needed a string that was easy to play. I figured an "extra light" string would be eaiser to play, but the sound would be "extra light" as well. WRONG! These strings sound great and they made me a better player right away. The buzzing was gone and the notes rang clear and long. If you've been playing less than a year, buy just one set of these strings. You won't be disappointed.

Comments about Martin MSP4000 SP Phosphor Bronze Extra Light Acoustic Guitar Strings:

I'm not hugely accomplished on guitar, but I do love playing my Martin DM and I have close ties to pros from as far back as 1979 that have used these specific strings and swear by them. In addition, my brothers are both very accomplished and my younger brother who also plays a Martin acoustic picked up my DM one day, played it, and said right away "Okay what are these strings on this instrument. I'm ordering some right now". They provide a nice clean sparkle on the high end while still producing a rich deep sound. You will not be disappointed with these strings.

    Great Value and Quality
Put a set on an old beater, wow brought her right back to life. I used Martin Marquis for ever though
I would try a set of these out. I was amazed on the sound coming out these SP4000, seemed to have a little more ring for lows and mid range. If you like the Marquis you will certainly like the SP4000's.
There Martin strings what more can I say
    reasonably priced

Comments about Martin MSP4000 SP Phosphor Bronze Extra Light Acoustic Guitar Strings:

Purchased a vintage Gibson LG0 and needed a low tension string for the short scale. I was surprised at the volume and tone from these extra light strings! They sounded better than the Marquis lights that I put on first.I'm impressed!!

Comments about Martin MSP4000 SP Phosphor Bronze Extra Light Acoustic Guitar Strings:

These are the best bronze strings I've ever used.I put a set on my small body mahogany guitar and they give it a nice bass response and harmony. And when stringing your guitar, you don't have time problems when tuning. My only complant is that the first and second strings are from steel, not pure bronze and they get rusted in a short time. Anything else is excelent.

Comments about Martin MSP4000 SP Phosphor Bronze Extra Light Acoustic Guitar Strings:

I recommend these strings to anyone.
I've used these string for years and always been satisfied. Just playing in my living room the strings area little tinny, but when I play on stage I play through a modeler or just through my PA system and they sound super.
I have never had a string to pop and they last in quality for a long time.
My opinion is: sound is everything and worth the money. $5 to get good sound is cheap.

will continue to use these on my 38 year old Aria
This is the first time I've used these.. Wish I had started using them eariler
the sound and ability to hold tune is really great
I've been using Martin strings for many years on my Acoustic Guitars. The quality vs cost is great the only strings that I've used that comes close to my liking are D'Addario which have a great sound as well.

Comments about Martin MSP4000 SP Phosphor Bronze Extra Light Acoustic Guitar Strings:

These Phosphor Bronze Strings won't quit. Some other brands tend to go dead quickly. These strings don't. I use them on my Zager Zad-80 Guitar. The Manufacturer calls for extra light phosphor bronze strings. These are the best available. Great for recording. Don't last quite as long as the Marquis version but they don't cost as much either. If you want your guitar to sound good change the strings every month to 6 weeks at least. I usually do so every 2 weeks. Otherwise they go dead and it's so gradual you start cussing your guitar when it's the strings.

Comments about Martin MSP4000 SP Phosphor Bronze Extra Light Acoustic Guitar Strings:

I needed a set of strings that were light enough to do full step bends on my Martin acoustic. I lost the number 1 E string the first day but I took one from a regular light set that was .001 heavier and that solved the problem. I wish Musician's Friend sold individual strings. The music store in town only sold full sets of strings as well and charged 3 times a much for a set than Musician's Friend does.

Comments about Martin MSP4000 SP Phosphor Bronze Extra Light Acoustic Guitar Strings:

Ever since I bought my Martin in 2005, I have only used their brand strings. I have had lots of trouble with fret wear on previous brand x guitars. Besides the wonderful tone you get, the engineers at Martin have somehow figured out the right alloys to prevent rapid fret wear. After nine years of playing almost every day, there is hardly any. These strings hold up well on abusive playing, and I haven't broken many strings either. Just about the ideal string for your Martin!

My Martin 00CXE GUITAR has always had action that was a little too high. I decided to try a lighter guage of the same Martin string I was using...It worked!! Much easier to play and they sound great. These extra light strings lose some of the bass tone of the regular light, but I'm happy and now play the Martin everyday. I also got the truss rod adjustment tool directly from Martin.

I prefer these light strings over heavier ones. For me I like the treble and clarity over heavier bassy sound.
Tried many brands. I love the sound of these Martin's MSP4000.
I've had only one string over 7 years, unravel at the stem. Never broke one, but I'm not an aggressive player.
It's hard to beat this price.
