Excellent sound and longevity.

Martin MSP4100 Phosphor Bronze Light Acoustic Strings are ideal live, in the studio, or wherever maximum string life is desired. The creation of these new high performance strings is a result of research done in cooperation with specialty steel producers. Due to the development of an industry leading ultra-high quality steel core, Martin SP strings resist breakage better than average strings. In addition, both the core wires and the plain strings are plated with a smooth, acoustic bronze finish. Though this golden bronze finish does enhance the beauty of your guitar, its purpose is much more functional - to prolong brightness, string life, and superior tonal quality to meet the high expectations of demanding musicians.

I spent a lot of time hunting for the best strings. My criteria was based on tone first, then price, as I change my strings quite regularly. I have tried D'Addario EJs and EXPs, Earnie Ball, Dean Markley(good strings),GHS, DR, Fender, Elixer, coated, non-coated, bronze and PHBs in most all brands, and I keep coming back to the Martin SP PhBs. These strings provide the best tone at an affordable price, and the strings have good longevity.

Some notes: -As noted in another review, if you do not play regularly, the high E and B strings may be a bit stiff at first. If this is the case, pick up your guitar and play more to build up your finger tips. -Holding tune; manually stretch strings, play, re-stretch, re-tune. If this does not work try changing cheap tuning machines or your guitar altogether, LOL. -Coated Strings; over-rated, and expensive. Coating a guitar string, really? The coating may help maintain the stings tone longer, but the tone you are getting is not the best to start with. Try change your strings regularity for best tone. -I have broken one of the wound strings (low A) up-tuning, and had trouble holding tune on the low E on one occasion, these are isolated incidence, quality control issues I assume. -Last thing; guitar strings are a bit personal. What strings you chose highly depends on your guitar and the sound YOU like.

Summary- I've tried all types of strings and have chosen the Martin SP phosphorus bronze for my acoustic guitars to give me the best tone at an affordable price. I have had 2 separate issues with the wound strings but not enough to change my mind when considering the great tone and longevity of these stings.

    Whats not to like??
Very bright, crisp, even sound when you first put them on. Levels out to a nice warm tone after a couple of days, & stays true to that tone for a LONG time.
I have been an Elixir string fan for years. When I bought my new Martin, it had these Martin strings on it. The sound was wonderful! After about a week, I thought, just think how well it will sound with Elirs on it . I changed out the strings and imediately regretted it. The Martin guitar brought out the thin, tinty sound of the treble notes. I ordered some more Martin strings right away. When they came in, I put them on and the tinty sound dissappeared. I learned my lesson. Stick with the Martins!!
They last about half as long as Elixirs, but cost a third as much. Better deal all around.

Great strings with very good life for uncoated strings. My only complaint is that they are too mellow in my opinion.

I just changed strings from D Addario Phosphor. I know for sure B minor and all Bar chords are much easier with these Martin Sp's. All the chords sound perfect. amazingly sharp sounds. These do not feel stiff like some strings, but very sleek and comfortable. Sliding from chords is smooth. The sound alone is truly inspiring. Thanks Martin

I had been using a set of Elixer Nanowebs on a not-top-of-the-line Yamaha. While those strings sound really good on a Mitchell guitar I have, on the lighter-bodied Yamaha, they sounded a bit tin-ny. I switched to these Martin strings, and they are better for this guitar. I still like the Elixer strings on the Mitchell guitar, but the Martins are a better fit for the Yamaha. I guess I need to choose the right strings for each. And for the price especially, you can't beat 'em.

They make great base runs and have good sustain. They replaced Martin Marquis 1200's and sound the same. I don't know about the longevity yet.

I'm not a bargain hunter when it comes to guitar strings. I want quality and consistency. The Martin SP series has proven to be the best for me. I think they sound noticiably better than other brands and they last. They look great too with all of the stings having a bronze color. The MSP4100s go on all my 6-string acoustics and I usually buy them by the dozen. The SPs may be the best value in guitar strings.
