OVERVIEW

Superior performance, longer life.

Rich tone should last as long as the inspiration does. Built on Martin's durable SP core wire, Martin SP Lifespan strings are the next level in studio and stage performance. Now with a more advanced proprietary treatment from America’s legendary guitar builder, SP Lifespan strings repel dirt, grit and other environmental elements that can quickly alter the sound of your strings. All six strings are treated to ensure a longer life. Martin developed a new and advanced method to treat strings, resulting in a process that ensures both the core and wrap are protected from corrosion. The molecular level treatment adds almost no mass to the string, will not flake or peel, and does not alter the vibration pattern like some string coatings can. The high-tensile strength SP core wire resists breakage and holds tunings longer – a perfect match to the treatment in creating a long life string. SP Lifespans are designed to last longer and sound better so you can play on.

The best coated strings, and possibly the best strings out there.
As anyone who tried Elixir strings when they first came out will remember, the astonishing longevity of clear and lively tone, and the elimination of string squeak as you fretted or shifted finger positions was a revelation. But so was the weird greasy feel to the strings, and their tendency to flake the coating off the string when you used fingerpicks. Cleartone purported to have resolved these problems, but their strings had a correspondingly shorter life and a return of string squeak, even if both were lessened. Now Martin has teamed with Cleartone, and the results are stellar. The strings are far more finger-sensitive, and the tone is full, well-balanced, and very long-lasting. Even after weeks of sweaty on-stage performance, the strings maintain their tone and, even more importantly, their intonation-- the days when you had to restring after each performance are long gone. Of all the coated strings on the market, these are by far the best.

I put these strings (light gauge) on two guitars . One is 1930's ladder braced acoustic and the other an 000 sized acoustic I built with redwood top and walnut back and sides. Both guitars have a tendency for a bright tone. The first 2 days on the guitars the treble range seemed harsh, almost brittle (hope you get the idea) and the bass frequencies were totally lacking. After a few days the treble harshness moderated some but overall these strings lacked the warm tone of the Elixir lights I had on before. I'm not saying these are bad strings, just that on these particular guitars they were not what I want to hear. If you have an acoustic whose tone is inherently dark or muddy I would recommend you give these strings a try. If your guitar has inherent bright tone these may be a set to avoid. The overall feel of the string surface and playing tension was comfortable but I noticed more finger squeak than when playing the Elixir lights.

Comments about Martin SP 7100 Phosphor Bronze Lifespan Coated Acoustic Strings Light:

Simple review here! I got these to compare to Elixir Nanoweb strings. These strings corroded like non-coated strings (or worse), nowhere near the life span of the Elixir Nanoweb. I put them on a secondary guitar, and they have corroded within 4 weeks, only played couple times a week by a beginner. My main guitar with Elixir Nanoweb strings, which are about 4 months old, feel like new. I do live very close to ocean, and my guitars get some exposure to salt when I open the windows, but I have uncoated strings on electric guitars that have lasted much longer.

I tried other Martin strings and they did not last some only 4 days. I started using D'Addario EXP'S and liked them alot. They work great on my Takamine. But on my Martin they just had somerhing missing. I received a set of Martin lifespan and loved them they had the sound and feel and longevity I was use too.Try them you wil fall in love.

I think for the money, these are the best strings out there. Easy on the fingers, good sound, long life, they've got it all. The only downside is the free shipping by Musician's Friend. The "ships UPS until they get it to Orlando, where UPS then puts it in the mail" shipping procedure is a joke. Just mail them from Kansas City next time please, if there is a next time.

A friend tried these strings on his Taylor 414 and thought they were not projecting on the high end. However my old 1974 Guild D40 has gotten too bright and over resonates on the high end so that it projects too many harmonics. I tried these string and my D40 now sounds much more balanced. They last a long time, 3 months with consistent playing, and they are easy on the fingers. Note.... they need a few days to settle in....you may not like them the 1st day or 2... but then they are fine. Good value too.

I have been playing D'Addario EXPs for a couple of years, but saw these on sale so gave them a try. They feel and sound very similar to the EXPs, that is, they feel and sound similar to uncoated strings, but last a lot longer.

I've been trying to find a coated string I like and these didn't do it for me. Like the coated strings from "Brand D" and "Brand E", I find good initial tone fades fairly quickly into a "semi-dead" tone that lasts a long time. The good tone really lasts no longer than uncoated strings, so I feel these are not a good value at their price point. As with other coated strings, the overall tone is not as lively as uncoated strings.

i normally use elixr or exp and thought i would give these a try since they are Martin brand and i play a D-18. I couldnt believe how flat they sounded and had zero sustain. they have a very thin sound and i took them off and put the elixrs on after three days. i truly expected a little more out of these strings and woould recommend the non coated martin strings before these.
