This is a great little metronome. It lacks features that many more expensive metronomes have, like beat accents and triplets and other bells and whistles. However, these tools can commonly become a crutch. If you are looking for a tool that will keep time for you (which is different than keeping the beat) I would suggest a metronome such as this. The speaker is loud - loud enough that, at times, I wish for a volume control. It's the only thing really lacking on this piece of equipment. Other than that, I find it to be well-made and even stylish; I can put it in my gig bag and go. It's been dropped a few times, on soft and hard surfaces, and it holds up well. It's easy to see the setting you've chosen, although from a distance it would be nice to have a red line instead of a red dot.It comes with an earpiece, which I really don't use much. However, if you are so inclined, the headphone jack can also be used to connect to the return jack of an external amp, guitar or otherwise, with the help of a 1/8-1/4 converter. For a basic metronome, I don't think you can find better. You could spend more and go digital, but after a certain point, it's the same thing for more money. I love this metronome and it was definitely worth the purchase.

Before you spend your money on this metronome, it does not give you the option of selecting any number of beats per min, only certain ones, about one in every three bpms, but as the tempo gets faster, even less, at a point you can only choose the tempo to be 8 beats per minute apart. Not ideal for the serious musician, possibly okay for begginers and those who just do music for fun and as a hobby

If the tone was more pure it would be a great unit. Some of us use the tone to tune our guitars with.

      My favorite metronome

      By Carol Hennessy

      from west coast

Comments about Matrix MR-500 Quartz Metronome:

I teach violin and purchase these for resale to students so they'll get the "right" metronome. It is LOUD! Ideal for student musicians. When I use it I tend to turn it towards the music stand since I don't need something as penetrating. Been dropped many times -- lasts for years.

      Simple & Basic Metronome

Comments about Matrix MR-500 Quartz Metronome:

Basic, you have the option to see the light and hear the beep at the same time, OFF, or just the light. The volume cannot be changed, it's definetely not the best to find tempo of a song because when you switch the metronome ON it doesn't start going right away it has a litttle delay. When earphones are plugged in you only hear one side, it's mono

Excellent buy for a basic unit. If all you need is a clicking metronome it's great buy.

      Bad timing

      By WebDragon220

Comments about Matrix MR-500 Quartz Metronome:

Keeps good time for about a couple of measures then starts to vary in time. BPM's are not consistent. In my opinion this is not a good purchase for serious musicians or students. This is not an accurate metronome. There are better products on the market. While the pricing is competitive, there is no price that can be placed on establishing bad habits.

      Hey, it's a metronome, right?

      By GLC-AElc-

Comments about Matrix MR-500 Quartz Metronome:

Just got this. Very basic. For some reason the tuning A is very quiet (is mine defective?) relative to the clicks. The clicks are pleasant enough. Seems like about standard construction for something in this price range. The dial feels nice and solid, though. Pretty much standard for a cheap metronome.

      Good little machine

      By Mikeyswen79

      from Aurora, CO

Comments about Matrix MR-500 Quartz Metronome:

What can I say, it's a metronome. It works great and I only have one complaint, and the complaint is that it doesn't have the option for any BPM between 440 BPM and 208 BPM, but that shouldn't be a problem for the most part. Good buy.
