Mogami Silver Series 1/4" Instrument Cable - 12'
At first glance these cables seemed a bit 'cheap' but once plugged in I had realized I bought a quality product, and had to buy more. My band has used hundreds of cables, and over time, it seems they all go bad. These are by far the best sounding, and I've never heard so much as a crackle from any of them in well over a year when I first started using them. The cables themselves seem a bit 'thin' but you want thin instrument cables to minimize resistance and maintain purity of your signal. They are also strong and flexible.

You could pay more and get a quality product, but I am willing to bet that the majority of people who buy expensive cables are suffering from 'placebo' effect and couldn't pick them out in a blind sound test.I once went to a high end audio store shopping for speaker cable. The salesman was selling the idea that anything hooked up to Monster Cable turns to gold, and I told the salesman if he could convince me (with the salesman listening in a blind test) that his Monster Cable could perform better than my 12 gauge electric cable that I bought for $10, that I would buy $1000 worth of Monster Cable. He couldn't. You don't need a $300 cable made out of gold plated unicorn feathers to get a good sound.

All my life I've been skeptical about the notion that a guitar cable will affect your tone, but after hearing all the buzz about Mogami, I decided give the 12' mogami silver a try.

#1 -- I was wrong. You can hear the difference.

#2 -- You're better off with a cheap cable than with this piece of junk. There's a term for it, and that term is signal loss. I A/B'd this cable with 3 other cables I've had for years, one of which had an intermittent buzz to it, and all three were louder and had better highs. This cable attenuates both the signal and the upper frequencies. I can't believe anybody anywhere would want a cable that causes a loss of tone. I returned mine for the cheapest Rapco GF sells, and it's much better.

The old saying "you get what you pay for" isn't necessarily true. I'd also like to point out another term for other reviewers of this cable: placebo effect.

I couldn't be more disappointed in a cable (unless I paid even more than I did). If you are a guitarist with fully functional hearing in the normal range, care about your tone, and don't like throwing your money away, buy anything but this.

Comments about Mogami Silver Series 1/4" Straight Instrument Cable:

I've had a pair of these for 5+ years and never had a problem that would prevent them from cabling as they should. My girl and even visitors are VERY prone to stepping on my cables, on top of tile floors and carpet (maybe it's even worse to have some cushioning?) and these have never shorted and still sound good. A review said they kink which is impossible; the rubber covering is far too stiff to kink (but not stiff enough to prevent easily getting them into a good 4-5" coil for hanging, OCD studio guys). In fact they occasionally "stand up" due to being twisted at one end or another, particularly if you obsessively coil the slack like me and then need a little more, but that's actually a plus in the favor of durability (cheap cables' rubber just indian-burns and causes shorts). I do however have two small gripes about these cables: 1) the "amphenol" labeled jack covers, though attractive and professional looking, have a tremendous tendency to unscrew slightly every so often... not enough to come loose of course but it drives me nuts and I have to immediately screw them back down tight. The pro to this con is that if a cable were to break it's almost always at the jack and this screw-on cover would make it easy to re-solder and screw back on seamlessly (if I ever needed to, but again have not). This again ends up being a plus in the durability column. Gripe 2) After about 4 years of almost daily use, the rubber stress reliefs at the back of the jack bent enough to break off, and now I have little sliding grommets on my cable, but the coating up and down the cable is as solid as the day I got them. There may be better cables but these weren't expensive, and most importantly, have lasted through a lot of beating, so I endorse them. The bad reviews sound like any bad reviews for an otherwise good product: quality control. Just return them and try again. It's worth it to have cables that you don't have to buy over and over after standard studio/stage use, but what a cheap cable company would pass off as "misuse" and never cover under any warranty.

        Pretty nice. Quiet.

Comments about Mogami Silver Series 1/4" Straight Instrument Cable:

Only time will tell. So far I like them.
I bought two of these 18 foot cables for my on stage rig. I can't say that it made a great difference in tone quality because I was using fairly high quality cables to begin with. I will say I think they are much quieter than the cables I was using previously. One thing I do like is that the phone ends seem to fit much tighter in my guitars inputs. I was having issues with the input on my Epiphone Sheraton. Most cables I have were a little loose and sometimes when I moved it caused a very noticable crackle or static sound as the cable moved slightly at the input. These cables fit snuggly in the guitars input and feel nice and tight. Of course that also makes it a little harder to pull them out of the input when changing guitars, but it's a nice trade off. I also notice that the cord dragging across the floor (wood or rug surface) when you are moving around does not make hardly any noise through my amp unlike most of my other cables. Another nice feature is the flexibility of the cables. Unlike some cables that feel stiff and unmanagable these cables are very flexible and just feel better. (I still don't know if that is good or bad as far as durability. Only time will tell, but they feel nice.)
I bought these on a "Stupid Deal" so the price was about normal for an 18 foot cable. I have been very pleased so far.
        They seem well made.
Bought two 18 foot cables on a "Stupid Deal". Got a pair for $29.00. Not bad.

Comments about Mogami Silver Series 1/4" Straight Instrument Cable:

I love these cables (I just bought two more). They sound great, are super flexible (don't get curly or tangled), and are far more rugged then they look. I've really yanked my first one more than once, and it still works great. I've been using Mogami wire for decades building equipment. You can't buy a better cable at anywhere near the price. I can't think of a single 'con' for these.
        Flexible but sturdy

works as written, I take this cable to prison and some times the guys get a little exuberant setting up and closing down I've been through a lot of cable, but these hold up great.

        Good, solid cable

        from Madison, WI

Comments about Mogami Silver Series 1/4" Straight Instrument Cable:

Never had an issue with this cable. I've seen Monster cables break-off at the jack so I'll never spend that much on a cable again. Cable's take abuse if you play live, that's just a fact. Some will break, some will die. I try to find a happy medium between quality and price and this one gives the best of both worlds. Livewires will have the occasional baddy, but are also a good value because they'll replace it with a new one.
I just don't belive in spending alot on something that will go bad no matter what, and you'll always need to have spare cables on hand. Get 2-3 of these instead of one 'high quality' cable and you'll be set.
A good straight-up cable. I really like it's flexibility. Soft cable.
I use two in my rig and have never had an issue with noise or reliability.
Good cable at a good price.

I bought this cable because I have heard that mogami are the best. Well, there was a lot of noise with this cable. I compared it to the monster 100 cable and both have the same amount of noise. Mogami kinks really bad. The only thing good about this cable is the price.
