For some of those who can build their own cables, this may be a bit overpriced. But if you're just looking to make great music and capture every bit of the clarity you hear live on tape, I suggest using Mogami cables.
After using the Mogami Gold series cables, I thought I'd give these a try - since they're about $20 dollars cheaper. Even without the thin lining of gold on the connectors, I noticed no difference in sound whatsoever.
I've used really cheap cables, livewire cables, monster cables, and mogami cables. And let me tell you... Mogami kills them all. Unknowingly, I did a livewire vs. mogami shoot-out. I had loaned my cable to a friend to use, but still needed to finish up some tracking. I had everything the same, except for the cable. During mixdown, I noticed that the clarity I was used to was lacking from the vocal track. After going through all the steps, I realized that I had been using the livewire advantage cable from years ago. Needless to say, that did it for me.
I'm an amateur recording engineer, working on musician's indie cds as well as my own. If you're serious about having the best sound, spend the extra $20 and buy these cables. After all, in this business, your sound is your reputation. The cable is a bit long, but I'd rather have too much cable than not enough. Wouldn't you?

I bought a Mogami Silver series 25 foot mic cable. Right out of the box I noticed that even though the cable works, the signal was exceptionally weak and sounded thin. Swapping the cable with any other cable of similar length, I get a normal signal. It might simply be a dud, but it's not worth the hassle to see whether I *might* get a better one on returning it.

I always try to salvage the cables when they go bad by soldering the wires that short out, but I found no problem with the connections. On the positive side, the ends are a lot easier to work with than my other mic cables.

Great Cables

Comments about Mogami Silver Series Microphone Cable:

Great cables. Noiseless, easy to store, cheap, and most importantly: lifetime guarantee. What else could you possibly want? I've used many types of different cables and if your just getting into the business, you'll learn that cheap cables break quickly. Mogami Silvers are exceptional cables in the audio world.

Very tough cables, dependable

By DJKJ

Comments about Mogami Silver Series Microphone Cable:

I have two of these that I use for my active speakers and they're top notch quality, clean sound, good connections. I thought they looked flimsy at first glance (the cord is pretty thin) but they have been walked on and abused and still work great. They've outlived my Shure brand mic cable. And they only cost a few bucks more than bargain cables. GO FOR IT.

Comments about Mogami Silver Series Microphone Cable:

Great cables. They make good sound, plenty long enough for whatever you need, and they are nice and sturdy.
Some people don't like that these only come in 25 ft. length. I don't really mind. I have a few mics and do some small scale recording here and there. It's nice for me to have something that's long enough when I need it to be, and I don't mind a little extra laying around if I don't need it.
This cable is silent. I bought it based on a lot of the other reviews I saw. They all seem to be acurate. I get no extra noise from these. I have 3 of them and they are all holding up just fine so far.
Spend a little extra. These are definately worth it. You won't have to worry about quality or durability. The cable is pretty thin but it is holding up just fine for me. The connections fit nice and tight and don't wiggle or come loose at all.

Comments about Mogami Silver Series Microphone Cable:

Have a few of the SM58 Sure mics and were having trouble with our old cord not fitting correctly. We were getting popping noise and the mics were cutting in and out. I was ready to send the mics back. But instead I wanted to try different cable first and I am glad I did. I cables fit very snug into the mic itself and the rubber ring on the cord tightened everything up perfectly. Now the mics work perfectly with not noise what so every no matter how hard the singers giggle the mic around.
I really like the little "o" ring a the bottom of the connector
Product seems to be of really good quality
Wasn't the most expensive but not the cheapest either

Pros

  • Good Value

Cons

  • Thin wire

Best Uses

Comments about Mogami Silver Series Microphone Cable:

Bought for home studio. Mogami is known for high quality cable, but I thought this particular one was a little thin and doesn't wrap as cleanly as the thicker stuff. If you want something rugged and sturdy this is not it. However, it's great for light use in the studio and the high-quality connectors are easily repairable.

the winner

By jason ssg

Comments about Mogami Silver Series Microphone Cable:

I am a small venue sound guy and run numerous shows each month, often with acts that are rough on the equipment, and I've gone through a lot of cables in the past several years. For some reason, even though they seem a little thin and light compared to some more expensive cables- the silver series cables in my kit (I have 4 and am getting 6 more) are the only brand that I've never had fail- not once. I have purchased over half a dozen different brands of cables, from top-of-the-line to cheap-as-can-be (by the way- don't EVER get the cheapest cables you find- they end up costing a lot more in replacements in the long run!!!) and even cables costing three or four times as much have failed on me- and whether pinched in spaces in the stage, drenched in booze, twisted, stomped on, caught under amps and yanked on, tangled by a variety of inexperienced assistants - somehow these haven't. So- the brand search is over- these win and are what I'm buying when I need more cables.

Comments about Mogami Silver Series Microphone Cable:

We recently purchased two 25' cables and two 50' cables for mains and monitors. They are great! No static at all. The only con is they seem a little thin, but when they mess up, we'll just replace them. Can't hardly beat it for the price!

Comments about Mogami Silver Series Microphone Cable:

I bought one of these cables about 3 years ago and have used it in countless rehearsals, clubs and churches (at least 5 days a week). It's held up nicely while other cables I've used in the past have fallen apart. I highly recommend these cables!

Cheaply Made

By John-SeT_Q

from Detroit

Comments about Mogami Silver Series Microphone Cable:

Out of thrree cables purchased, one was bad out of the package. Upon inspection, the solder points were terrible and one wire was not making contact in both connectors. The plastic inner shell broke and even the cables that worked have poorly made connectors that do not seat firmly in the microphone. I'll salvage the wire and put quality connectors on them. I know these are not expensive cables but the bottom line is that if you're going to but cheap cables you might as well spend less

Slinky stuff

By Axemanv90-qMH4a

from Hollidaysburg, PA

Comments about Mogami Silver Series Microphone Cable:

This is very good quality audio cable, but I would only use them for permanent installation or home studio use. Go on the road with a box full of these and you will find yourself spending more time untangling them than routing them.

These have held up for years!

By Emmett-G2CDy

Comments about Mogami Silver Series Microphone Cable:

I have been using these cables for tons of gigs, recording applications, and basically anything that comes my way. These cables are awesome! I tried the musicians friend 10 cable pack and I think Im down to 4 cables that work after 4 months. My band and me are extremely rough on stage and we use this cable for all of our mics. Havent had a single problem with em' yet!

Comments about Mogami Silver Series Microphone Cable:

These are, overall, very good cables. The Mogami Silver Series Microphone Cable transmits good clean sound without any distortion that I have been able to detect. As far as electronic hum is concerned, these cables are clean and clear no matter what the situation. As far as durability is concerned - take care of this cable and it will take good care of you.

Ask me a question

Comments about Mogami Silver Series Microphone Cable:

I can't really speak for the technical quality of these cables. I've only used them once and they worked. My problem is that even after taking the time to coil the cables properly, they tangled as soon as the cable ties came off. I spent valuable set-up time untangling mic cables. I will use them in my studio for installations that don't require that they be moved. But I wouldn't purchase these again.

Great, but has problems

By Pearlzilla

from Lubbock, TX

Comments about Mogami Silver Series Microphone Cable:

I've used these cables for a couple months at my venue which has shows every night of the week. The only problem I've ever had is that the cable itself is fairly easily ripped out of the female xlr connection. They work great in static locations, but, give them to a lead singer and he'll definately pull the cable out.
