Affordable strings are wonderful. At the rate I go through a set these fit the bill. I put some top shelf 80/20's on my dreadnaught and they last about 3 weeks max, usually two.

It's the same with electrics.

No matter how much or how "great" a certain string is, I get 2 and maybe 3 weeks out of them if that particular guitar is in heavy rotation. And by the 3rd week they're usually over ripe.

With acoustics the degradation in playability/sound is very obvious, electric strings can be disguised a bit with effects etc... but acoustic strings are bare naked and tell no lies. If they are going bad... it is readily apparant.

Do these work for me? Yes. Are they the "greatest" strings ever? No hype... they do the job and are on par with everything else out there.

I tried a new set of these out on an Alvarez AD60 acoustic/electric with a TUSQ saddle and what are likely a regular plastic nut and bridge pins. To give you an idea of the sounds I am used to, I generally use Elixir lights and use both phosphor bronze and 80/20 bronze versions and in nanoweb and polyweb versions. For uncoated strings I use D'Addario EJ16 light phosphor bronze strings.

PROS

For being inexpensive, the strings are packaged well. The outer box is not sealed, but each individual string is sealed in clear plastic with the string name and number printed in large lettering. The ends are all brass, but with the individual packaging, it eliminates the need for color coding. This is a great feature for beginners, those that don't string often, or even those without good vision - no having to refer back to a tiny print color coding chart, which can be different for different brands of strings.

Also, the box had a hanger tab, which is really handy for me to hang on a long peg on my workbench pegboard until the strings are needed.

CONS

The sound on these strings is EXTREMELY bright and it makes the guitar, who's sound I always get compliments on, sound like a bottom of the line laminate top guitar in my opinion.

The thinner strings seem to kink more easily than other brands I have installed, I suppose they could have been like that in the package, but if so I did not notice.

Compared to other non-coated strings, my fingers, which are calloused but smooth, really "stick" to the strings and there is a lot of string noise.

Immediately after stringing and tuning, my clean fingertips had gray and black lines on them after playing these strings for about 10 minutes. I was surprised by this as usually it only happens when playing on old or dirty strings.

I can't recommend these for sound quality, but at the price I am not disappointed I tried them out.

Comments about Musician's Gear Acoustic 12 80/20 Bronze Acoustic Guitar Strings:

I originally hesitated buying these strings after reading the critical review claiming they sound bad, don't stay in tune, and break easily. That has definitely not been my experience so far. Admittedly mine is still a relatively short-term assessment, and so I cannot yet attest to their durability and long-term stability, but after changing out the old strings that came on my guitar (a just-purchased AJ-220SCE) I can say there is a very obvious improvement in the acoustic volume and sound, comparable to putting on a fresh set of D'Addarios. I have not experienced any problems with breakage, intonation or tuning. Also, they present a nice soft feel to the fingers which makes forming chords and solo notes quite easy. For the price these strings are a steal, and I rate and recommend them highly.

Comments about Musician's Gear Acoustic 12 80/20 Bronze Acoustic Guitar Strings:

              I did provide a value.
I've played nearly 50 years as a flatpicker and fingerpicker. I own a high-end Santa Cruz guitar (27 years) and have used lots of different strings. I personally see and hear no difference between these and uncoated 80/20 name brands. You want to spend (waste, IMHO) money on coated or Phosphor strings, that's your business. But if you're like me and and prefer the sound of basic brass strings, these are as good as the name brands and are less expensive. Win/win.

Comments about Musician's Gear Acoustic 12 80/20 Bronze Acoustic Guitar Strings:

I'm normally pretty picky about my strings. I've played many types and gauges over the years and I know what I like. For the price of these I figured they were worth a shot, just to see what the fuss was all about. Musicians Gear strings come in a glossy box with a single clear plastic package inside holding all of the strings. Four wound, two unwound strings in great color and shape. While they don't sound like an expensive string, they do sound bright and balanced. In my experience, all of the Musicians Gear strings last about a month of solid playing and then the tone deteriorates fairly quickly. It's a sharp decline. You'll know when they're dead because you won't enjoy playing on them anymore. But for a few dollars it's really not an issue. If you enjoy them, just buy another pack every month. A solid value. Not the best strings, but in my opinion better than GHS and Ernie Ball.

When I receive'd it was back in the cold winter, but the string's were corrodid. I ask MF. if they would send me a replacement for them. I had ordered some other small supplie's pic's and tuner. I rec'd those, and the next week I had a email saying my strings had been sent. Restored faith in Musician'Friend. Thank's Again. Tommy Smith.

They sound great and they play as good as many other expensive brand name strings.

I wish I could get a better price on them for buying them in 12 lot sets or more as this is how I'll purchase them from now on.

Give them a try you will be very surpirsed at best on most acoustic guitars.
I've got them on my Hummingbird right now and it is awesome sounding. :)

If U only re-string once-a-year...spend a couple more bucks. If you like the sound of new strings - so you re-string frequently, (as I do), these can't be beat.
                            Shiny wire. What features?
If Ur lookin to string up for your big debut on the Tonight Show..... splurge on something else.
I can't even imagine how they can manufacture, package, and ship this product for so little.

Comments about Musician's Gear Acoustic 12 80/20 Bronze Acoustic Guitar Strings:

You cannot beat the value on these strings. I am a stand up comedian and I use an acoustic guitar in my act and rely on these strings to stay bright and sharp, which they do remarkably well. Do not be afraid of the LOW price of these strings. They are a quality item and I've been buying them for a few years now. I change my strings once every 2 weeks and they get heavy useage. I've never been disappointed with Musician's Friend brand strings.
Musican's Friend strings are a fantastic value

I have no idea if these strings have good tone or not. The G string broke as I was putting them on my acoustic guitar. I've changed many sets of strings in my time, and this is the first time I've had a string break since I was a beginner (over 10 years ago). I would not recommend. They obviously break very easily.
