Great for home or studio. I have even ordered a second unit just because I like this one so much. That way, when my cheap bandmates show up to practice we will have plenty of stands for everyone to see the music.
I wasn't sure if I wanted the Conductor's Stand or the less expensive Heavy-Duty folding stand. In the end it was the additional features of this unit that won me over. I've had several of the fully collapsable/portable stands that fold up to fit in small cases and knew that I did not want something that flimsy. One reason is that they just don't hold large music books very well. I wanted something that would hold steadily a book with 200+ pages. Some of my books, such the White Pages type, have 400+ pages, so the foldable models just won't work.

There were three other features that I needed as well. First, a stand should be adjustable so that you can use it while sitting or standing. This means that it should be strong enough that when extended for a standing position it will not wobble or move. Second, the table should be large enough for full size books/sheets to lean against and the shelf (where the book sits) deep enough to hold large volumes. The tiny/cheap stands don't usually have enough room here, so a large book will not sit well. The shelf on this stand is 2" deep, so there's plenty of room for an open book of 200-400 pages. Third, it should be sturdy enough to withstand being moved around the room, adjusted regularly, and allow you to change books/sheets without worrying about it folding or collapsing under the stress. My experience with those tiny folding stands is that they wobble, they fall over easily, and they just don't do well when trying to adjust/move a 200+ page book.
For me, quality is rated in context of price, and this one has plenty of quality. I'm sure the stands used by the LA Philharmonic are probably better, but they are also not paying less than $25 for a stand. So in all, the quality is very good. That's also where the comparison between the "Heavy-Duty" and "Conductor" models became so important. From what I can tell, both have good quality, but in the end the Conductor just seemed to offer a bit more heft and durability. The sheetmetal work is very good. The rounded edges on the desk add strength and keep the edge from becoming a knife in the studio. The shelf is bent into place with a nice clean line so that it is square across the bottom. I'm sure the factor uses a huge press to do this, but even then when working with this type of metal there can be a tendency to warp or show signs of the bend pressure. That doesn't seem to be true here, and the unitl is very well made. Best part is the paint used is thick, so there is no raw metal feel. The paint doesn't feel like it will chip away or wear off quickly, so I'm very happy with that. I also like that there are holes already in place on the desk so that you can add accessories such as a light.
This unit is easily 1/2 the price of similar quality/build stands that I find in local stores. If you're using a stand regularly, and want something to hold books and plenty of sheets, then this is a good quality unit. The heavy duty might be good, too, and it's cheaper, but with the extra features the Conductor unit has I think it is well worth the extra money.

One of the rivets holding the base of this music stand gave out at a gig I was playing this weekend, causing the stand to collapse and nearly damage the instruments around me.

I've had the stand for merely 18 months and have probably only used it on average 1 or 2 times per month over that period leading me to say that it's made poorly.

While it is sturdy enough to support my swing band's book of charts, it is also a heavy stand to lug around and does not come with a carrying bag, making it inconvenient to carry around for any distance with my horn, music, & mutes.

Comments about Musician's Gear Deluxe Conductor Music Stand:

A good concept but very bad quality parts used.
These stands are really a good idea but the quality is not there.
These stands have a plastic wedge that tightens against the post and these are held I place with little plastic tips. These break. Warning! These break.
I had one that of course broke the pins but also the metal support straps broke on the bottom.

Over 1/3 of my class' stands have Broken

      By MDWJ

      About Me Professional Musician

Comments about Musician's Gear Deluxe Conductor Music Stand:

I am a classroom music teacher. I ordered 40 of these stands one year ago, but after having several break, I am now down to only 28 working stands.

The joint connecting the bookplate to the rod extending above the tripod is made of brittle plastic and is possibly made too small. Several of them cracked upon assembly, and then (with often just a small bit of pressure) one third of my stands have broken, leaving me with a completely useless item that could be repaired easily, given the right parts (which I cannot seem to find).

I am anxious to repair these because once I do, I will be in love with them again.

I love this music stand and will be buying another one soon. This is a good quality stand. The set up was easy. The tray is wide enough to hold my music book and it tilts so you can set a laptop on it. I would recommend getting this deluxe version. I highly recommend this stand.

A great deal at the $15 price

Comments about Musician's Gear Deluxe Conductor Music Stand:

At $15, this is nearly, almost, just about, as good as a stand we paid $60 for. If I walked into a store and saw those two side by side, I would buy this one hands down. I like that its range of motion goes from fully vertical to way past horizontal. My other stand will not go full vertical. There are some plastic connectors on this, but there are also on the more expensive stand I have. Really the only thing I don't like about this stand is that the desk/plate has rolled edge. This is because its made of slightly thinner metal than the more expensive stand, and they rolled the edges to give it structural strength. Really though at $15, it is a great music stand. Way Way Way better than the little silver foldup music stands they used to sell for band students etc. And at this price, you can afford 2 or 3 easily, which is nice.

Comments about Musician's Gear Deluxe Conductor Music Stand:

There is NOT one thing I dislike about this music stand..I almost made a BIG mistake and bought the $19.98 stand..Then I read reviews and found this stand for only $5.00 more and I can not believe the difference in quality for $5.00 more..I would HIGHLY recommend this stand to every musician out there!! Thanks Musician's Friend for offering such a high quality stand for such a reasonable price!!
Not many features because it is just a stand, But the tray does tilt all the way back in order to place a laptop on it..
Very well built...The legs and stand itself are VERY sturdy. The tray is METAL and not plastic..Very Nice..
For the quality of this stand I can not believe they sell it for the price that they do.. Should be priced alot higher, But I'm glad it wasn't..

Comments about Musician's Gear Deluxe Conductor Music Stand:

I needed one additional music stand and ordered this. It has really exceeded my expectations. My other stands have a solid(non-folding) base. I was concerned about the stability of this stand, since the legs fold-in, but I am very impressed with how sturdy it is. Because the legs are hinged together, and slide up and down the base in one piece. You can adjust the spread of the legs, and the stability is excellent. In addition, there is a wide variety of heights possible, so it works equally well for a sitting or standing musician. Holds a heavy 4" three ring binder or an iPad equally well. There are a total of three adjustment knobs, and they feel sturdy, substantial, and it is easy to lock down the stand in the position you want. I also did not expect it to fold into such a compact footprint. I did not buy it intending it to be a travel stand; but that is exactly what it has become. Sturdy, well built, reliable, and able to pack up and travel. It checks all the boxes for me. As older stands get replaced, this will be the stand I order to replace them with. Could not be more pleased!!
