I bought this case during a holiday sale, and I feel I got an excellent deal. I was buying this for an Irish bouzouki, as they usually fit fine in a 5-string banjo case. The only issue that worried me was the length from the strap button to the top of the neck joint, which is longer on a bouzouki than a round banjo head. Fortunately, it fit perfectly, but with no room to spare (15.5" in case anyone else is buying it for the same reason).

As others have noted, this case will require some additional padding in the body area because the neck rest creates a fulcrum and the instrument flops around in the case until the lid is closed. I found some black material similar to the type used in the case, and covered a piece of 1" foam with it, and now the instrument fits snugly without flopping around.

Overall, this is a nice, solid case that's well-constructed for carrying to the occasional gig, or safely storing the instrument. I wouldn't recommend it for a hard-working touring professional, or for extended travel, but for nearly all other uses, it's well worth it.

This case would be ideal for a beginner class or other lightweight model banjo. The only neck support that this case offers is at the base of the neck just above the heal. If this case is dropped with a heavier banjo inside of it, the neck could break. The exterior strength, as previously mentioned, isn't all that great. It gives under moderate pressure. So if something we dropped onto the case, anything inside of it is going to feel the hit as well. The hardware seems to be OK. The locks secure the lid down firmly. Again, this case would be good for a lightweight banjo or cheaper model. It would even go well for someone who is going to be using this case for storage. The price is right, but just understand that the quality is affected somewhat when not spending as much money on other brands.
The features on this banjo case are pretty much standard on all banjo cases.
The exterior strength and protection is OK. It's nothing fantastic, but will hold up to light/moderate use.
The price is amazingly low. However, with "value" being more about what product your getting for the money spent, it's hard to rate this in the top of it's class. It's overall strength isn't great. The interior padding is someone hard and not forgiving.

Comments about Musician's Gear Deluxe Hardshell Banjo Case:

Neck on my RW Jameson 6-string banjo is a little thick to fit as received, but the neck support piece was easy to take out and trim. Now the banjo sits in the case perfectly. Looks and fits like the case was made for it.

Comments about Musician's Gear Deluxe Hardshell Banjo Case:

I don't think I will ever find a better deal on a banjo case. I bought it during a Musician's Friend sale and paid less than the cost of an average fabric gig bag. To acquire a better hard case would cost you at least three times more. Plus I got free shipping! Of course it's only a good deal if the case has value. I have a Guardian case for my Ode, and this case I would say is about 75% as good. This case is stronger and better constructed than I expected. For 'normal' conditions such as lugging it around in the back of a van, protecting your banjo backstage or storing it at home, I feel confident that this case is up to the challenge. Lately it was stacked under two guitars in cases, and it survived just fine. The latches are secure, it closes tightly, and the interior offers the same plush and ample padding of more expensive cases. Yes, because it is a "one size fits all" generic case, you might have to add something soft to support the pot of an open back banjo. I used one of my wife's small round throw pillows. Perfect. And yes, you could put another support further up the compartment to support the neck; but my 22-fret Bacon 5-string rests securely just as the case came to me. The interior storage compartment is adequate too. I had no issues with workmanship; no loose latches, hinges or the vinyl exterior covering. As was noted by others, I wouldn't give it to an airline baggage handler and expect my banjo to arrive undamaged. But as long as you are in control of the case in transit it will protect your banjo in most every situation. I'm happy with the case.

Delux Hardshell Banjo Case Best for the money

    By George Sanderson

    from Baldwinsville New York

Comments about Musician's Gear Deluxe Hardshell Banjo Case:

In summary: The Delux Banjo Case is
    1. Made of superior materials to insure a long service life
    2. Attractive and professional looking to show that you care for your instrument
    3. Securely hinged with many points of contact
    4. Lockable providing extra security. ( Would be thieves like to steal instruments in a quick grab, the locking case provides a barrier of defense slowing down their actions and offering a deterent).
    5. Excellent cost vs feature ration whereby you obtain the best case for the least amount of money.
I like the case and would recommend it to anyone.
The Delux Hardshell Banjo Case incorporates the absolute safety of a hardshell instrument case with the style and portability of a much more expensive case. The exterior of this case is dressed in a texturized fabric that is designed to resist scuffs and abrasions thus adding years of enjoyment and practical use for the enterprising musician. This case has reinforced hinges and a secure locking system that assures the user will not encounter mishaps with their beloved banjo. I was especially impressed with the key locking mechanism that is usually absent on all but the most expensive of cases.
The Delux Banjo case appears to be constructed by very durable materials. Upon receiving this case I was very pleased with its weight. I consider an appropriate weight to be a sure sign of thoughtful construction methods whereby the case is neither too heavy or so light weight that the construction planning is in doubt of its wearability and protective qualities. After all, purchasing a hardshell case is mainly predicated upon providing durable protection for your instrument. Whether you take your instrument on the road of just to an occasional jam session; this case is ironclad protection showing that you are a musician that cares for their instruments.
During uncertain economic times, whether you are a professional musician or a novice you want to assure yourself that you are obtaining the most value for your hard earned dollars. I spent some time to investigate the value of purchasing the proper case for my instrument. After much internet investigation and a canvass of local stores. I have concluded that generally cases such as this one are priced in the higher dollar range and sometimes they are not on a par with the Delux Banjo Case. Rest assured that I based my decision to purchase this case only upon diligent investigation and careful study of the products available. This case WAS the best value that I found.

    Great case for the money

    By Tracy Sonnier

    from MN

Comments about Musician's Gear Deluxe Hardshell Banjo Case:

You can't go wrong for fifty dollars.
This case has all the features you are looking for. Holds banjo securely and holds the neck up keeping tuning machines from contacting the case itself. Good sized pocket for strings/tuners/picks.
I can tell that its an economy case, and probably would not hold up to heavy road use or flight. All the pieces on mine are fully functional after about 4 months of use. Vinyl covering has a few little snags in it already, but otherwise it's held up really well.
You will not find a new hardshell banjo case that ships for free for less than this. I replaced the crummy chipboard case that my banjo had, and I feel that my banjo's much better protected by this one. I plan to buy another one for my backup banjo soon.

    Hard shell banjo case

    By Mark Harper

    from Lexington KY

Comments about Musician's Gear Deluxe Hardshell Banjo Case:

The flat top does not provide the support that an arch top does so this case is not designed for rugged use, but for local use it is one I recommend. I build banjos and would purchase these cases so that my customers can have decent hard cases for their instruments. This is also the second case I have purchased for my own use and probably not the last.
Good quality hinges and latches made of brass. Feet on three sides. Nice plush lining. Good sturdy handle.
This is not a case I would travel a grest deal with but for local playing it fits the bill well.
Unbeatable for the cost. Much nicer than a case I bought from a competitor for the same price and I received a case that looked like the one in the picture.

    great case for your banjo!

    By Tracy Sonnier

    from minnesota

Comments about Musician's Gear Deluxe Hardshell Banjo Case:

I'm really happy that I've got this case. It's a huge improvement over the chipboard case I was using. If I had an expensive banjo I'd probably opt for a higher end model, but for my 1980's japanese banjo, this is perfect!!
4 latches with 1 locking. Nice sized interior compartment. brass feet on 3 sides of the case protect your instrument no matter how you set it down.
I can't really say too much about the quality as of yet since I haven't owned the case very long. It seems to be relatively well made, although I can tell its made from lighter materials than high end cases. The tolex already has a small tear in it, but I'm not really about the cosmetics anyway.
An amazing value in banjo cases. I couldn't find anything remotely close to this in quality for this price. I've seen soft gig bags for banjos for this price!

Comments about Musician's Gear Deluxe Hardshell Banjo Case:

I am an experienced guitarist and bagpiper, and just purchased a Deering Goodtime open-back banjo to learn on. This case is a little too big in the pot area, so I used a couple of golf towels to increase padding; did the same thing in the neck/head area because there was no real support there. Now it's snug. The case isn't the best quality, but you can't expect it to be for the price. A very good value.
