I have 5 of the MF house brand cases....-I have two of the LP cases for Melody Makers.-I keep a resonatoer in a OOO sized case.-I keep a 70's Tribute SG in the SG case and I used to have another SG case for a Faded SG.For [$] this is a very nice case. You can buy a better case for twice the price and I have many cases that cost twice the price but for [$] this is a well made and safe place to store a guitar. The handles are sturdy and the latches are sturch and the arch top in the case adds a lot of protection to a flat top guitar. If you buy one of these cases when MF has their coupon offers then you're getting a fantastic deal.

This Musicians Choice product is inexpensive - and no worse than the significantly-more-costly, official, Gibson-branded SG case. That's not saying much, though.

The neck rest is about 1/3 of an inch too high. That means that, since the body portion of the case lid has a pad that presses down on your SG's body, closing the case puts serious pressure on the headstock of your guitar. Essentially, unmodified, this case is perfectly designed to break your SG at the headstock, if it's subjected to any, even fairly minor, banging around - such as by airport baggage handlers.

If you have modest shop skills - and somewhat more advanced upholstery chops - you can carefully remove the velveteen cloth from the neck rest block, remove the block and sand its bottom down about 1/3 inch, then reinstall (re-glue) the block to the bottom of the case, and then trim and re-glue the velveteen to cover it. Voila! Your SG case now actually PROTECTS your guitar, instead of endangering it.

Again, it bears repeating that the Gibson-branded case has EXACTLY the same design defect. The Musicians Choice version is just a slavish copy. If you want actual protection without having to modify the case, buy an ABS-molded, third-party, high-end case and leave both this one and its Gibson equivalent on the shelf.

Comments about Musician's Gear Deluxe SGS Solid-Guitar-Style Hardshell Case:

This case is fairly well made, but that's not the problem. The inside padding is raised, but not angled, so the point of contact is the bottom of your SG. From there, the neck rest is raised too high, so that the guitar rests at the base and in the middle of the neck. There is no second neck-rest, so that one is the only point of contact.

This leaves the guitar sitting in the case at an upward angle with the bottom contacting the inside of the case, and the one point on the neck contacting the neck rest. Closing the case puts downward pressure on the guitar...and thus, produces pressure that could snap the neck or the headstock, which does contact the bottom part of the top of the case.

Don't put an SG in here. It's a recipe for disaster until they redesign it to be more like a typical Gibson or Epiphone SG case.

Comments about Musician's Gear Deluxe SGS Solid-Guitar-Style Hardshell Case:

The case is better than a Gig Bag, and it fits the circumfrence of my SGJ-14, but the headstock sits hard on the bottom. I keep a small folded towel under the horns and rest my rolled up leather strap under the neck, just past the body, to protect the neck from breaking at the headstock if it takes an accidental fall. I know now why it had such a low price. It has a lock, but no key! Called Musician's Friend TWICE, but still no key. Musician's Friend's return policy would have cost me almost half as much as I paid for the case in order to return it. I've made my last purchase from them. I have buyer's regret, knowing that I should have waited and ordered a TKL or Gibson Case. A very disappointing experience overall.

Comments about Musician's Gear Deluxe SGS Solid-Guitar-Style Hardshell Case:

This case works as intended, but that's it. My Epiphone SG Special fits snugly without slop, and the latches (all three!) function. The case balances well when carried and protects the guitar. There is an interior compartment for accessories. I can't really complain, but there's nothing to brag about, either. If you can buy it on sale, it's not a bad deal. But its twin, the case for a Les Paul, has an extra latch and costs considerably less for basically the same level case. And if you have to pay full price, run!

Comments about Musician's Gear Deluxe SGS Solid-Guitar-Style Hardshell Case:

I love mine! Does exactly what I need it to do and way cheaper than any others.
There are more expensive cases out there but this one is the best deal anywhere!
I have bought several cases from Musician Friend and have been extremely pleased with every one of them. Don't waste your money on higher priced brands! I use this one to carry a Gibson and have never had a problem. Thank you guys for helping us with low prices on gear.
      Good quality.
Can not beat the price!! I found a used case on Craigslist for $60.00 that was not nearly as nice as the NEW one I bought here for $49.00 , shipping included!!
      And I live in Nashville!

      Headstock Cracked Inside Case

Comments about Musician's Gear Deluxe SGS Solid-Guitar-Style Hardshell Case:

I should have known better with a price too good to be true. However, all the positive reviews convinced me this would be a good purchase. Unfortunately, the savings hear didn't matter because the headstock of my SG cracked IN THE CASE during travel. It's repairable, but it will cost some money. I was better off spending that money on a better case. The problem is, the case does not support the neck, so the SG ends up resting right on the headstock. I guess this case would work for you if you weren't expecting to travel with it, but then you probably don't need a case at all.

Comments about Musician's Gear Deluxe SGS Solid-Guitar-Style Hardshell Case:

After reading a "few" comments about how the fit wasn't too good and, some modifications were needed to make this case safe to use I thought I would see for myself, so I ordered one for my Epi G400 Pro. Well it fits pretty darned good and, I really looked it over good to see if I could find any negative aspects of this case. I can't. There is padding under the front of the body for support and, on the top of the case also. The only thing that I did was to work over the neck craddle to make the neck lay a little lower and, also rest on the accessory compartment and, that's it. This case is a Great buy and, a Great fit. I'm confident that it will give the guitar the protection and, storage that I would expect. I take Great care of all my gear and, if I had any doubts what so ever that this case would not protect my instrument it would definately be going back.
