I play lead guitar and sing in a 3 piece rock group so I stay busy all night long. I need my pedal close. I don't need to be tripping on one of the 3 legs of a tripod mic stand. Small stages are a nightmare; so, sometimes I need all the extra room I can get. Finally, sometimes I come out of a lead, change the channel on the pedal from lead to regular and as I go up to begin singing the next part of the song-I bounce my mic off my face tipping the stand and twice I had to catch it from falling. Being bottom heavy keeps it from falling all the way to the floor saving the mic, the stand, avoiding the loud PA pop when it hits the floor and it significantly lowers my blood pressure now that I don't have to concern myself with that scenario.

These microphone stands are pretty good value for the price, but they aren't of the highest quality. I gave it a 3/5 for two reasons; (1) Out of the three microphone stands I ordered, one of them had damaged threads (see pic) and (2) The threads don't seem particularly strong and it's easy to cross-thread the stands into the bases (which I was aware of before ordering).

In my experience, it's best to leave the pole screwed into the bases at all times as I have damaged a stand just like this in the past from repeated screwing and unscrewing of the pole. Despite the 3/5 rating, I would recommend this stand as an inexpensive microphone stand set-up for newbies or musicians that want a simple studio set-up. I do plan on ordering more in the future.

Comments about Musician's Gear Die-Cast Mic Stand:

This is just as good as any other mic stand I have owned over the years, it's very stable considering the base is small. The lock works smoothly and grips tightly. So far I haven't had a problem with the top sliding back down into the lower section it stays where you put it. I have had mic stands in the past when the lock didn't grab well enough and slowly lost height as the gig went on.

Comments about Musician's Gear Die-Cast Mic Stand:

These look good and perform adequately. I have bought 8 of these for my church choir. I would advise putting a little wax or vaseline on the threads before screwing the base to the post.

Do not overtighten the height adjustment or you will strip the threads. I would not recommend these for heavy use or for the road, but they work well in a more gentle environment like a church choir.

If you don't need the rugged construction, it's hard to beat the price.

Comments about Musician's Gear Die-Cast Mic Stand:

      served the purpose for use
      Utility item.
Do not be in a hurry to put this together. Take time and put on some lubricant...wd 40 or some white graphite on the threads. All those negative posts were due to people being too impatient to take time and prepare the threads and to take a little time to actually thread properly the very fine threads that are on the pipe at both ends. This one serves just at the right height to hold my Voice Live Touch to isolate it from a sensitive microphone I had to mount on a separate stand.
      not flimsy
      worth the money

Comments about Musician's Gear Die-Cast Mic Stand:

I purchased this stand for two reasons: 1) - Because it's small footprint allows me to move the GoPro Hero3+ Black Edition/Music camera close to the band Front of House without blocking the surrounding floor area as much as a musician's tripod mic stand base would. 2)- Interestingly, the GoPro came not with a mount that fit a traditional photographer's tripod camera adapter, but that fit a traditional mic stand mic holder adapter like this mic stand has. Note that the die-cast base makes for a very stable mic stand.

Comments about Musician's Gear Die-Cast Mic Stand:

I originally bought these because of the reasonably low price. Turned out to be a great value as well. I needed two compact stands for overhead mics for drums. Stands had to fit on compact stages. These work very well. The weighted bottom keeps the mic from tipping. Only small minor drawback (for me personally) is that I have to unscrew the stand from the base in order to fit it in my drum hardware bag.

Comments about Musician's Gear Die-Cast Mic Stand:

My studio's live room is on the small side so these cast iron bases come in way handy. They have a very small footprint compared to a tri legged stand. The base has enough weight in it to hold most mic;s boomed out without the tipping issue comming up. I would not try and hang a 10 lb mic boomed all the way out! For drum overheads boomed out three feet and small dia. condensors they work just fine..

Comments about Musician's Gear Die-Cast Mic Stand:

I ordered two of these. Both are identical, but on one the plastic tightener ring hugs the raiseable shaft a little too tight. Perhaps over time continually using it may loosen it up bit. People need to realize though that you only have to tighten these up just over finger tight. Often folk just clamp down on these like it was a Titantic bolt.

This is your basic mic stand, but it is solid and works great. If you prefer the weighted bottom stands with small footprint over the stands with legs, then get this mic stand - It's a great value and does what it needs to do. Don't forget to buy a mic clip as well ; )

I like these heavy metal base stands for mounting FX units like my POD & Black Box much better than the tripod style stands.
This one has 5 rubber feet which is a big improvement over the prior ones which had only 3 rubber feet and tended to be less steady when bumped or on carpeted floor.
quality is ok so far... the clutch seems to work fine.
good price for an essential piece of gear.

Their free shipping and professional packaging makes them unbeatable. Even on the couple of times when they sent a defective stand (the ring that holds the mic clip sometimes comes loose) they replace the defective item with promptness and courtesy.

This is a great mic stand. The lock works as it should. Don't torque it down, and it should last a good long time. Locks with easy twist. The base is nice and heavy with jumbo rubber feet. I recommend it not be used with a boom without a counterweight.

Tripod stands take up a lot of floor space. Round base stands are easier to maneuver around in the studio and on stage. But the base has to be heavy. These stands are perfect for my studio: stable, black, small footprint, inexpensive.

Comments about Musician's Gear Die-Cast Mic Stand:

Can't tell the difference between these and my proline mic stands, witht the exception of the tightening device is a different shape and may be made of a different plastic. THey are so similar that they may be made in the same factory.

They hold mics, and look great!
