I play lead guitar and sing in a 3 piece rock group so I stay busy all night long. I need my pedal close. I don't need to be tripping on one of the 3 legs of a tripod mic stand. Small stages are a nightmare; so, sometimes I need all the extra room I can get. Finally, sometimes I come out of a lead, change the channel on the pedal from lead to regular and as I go up to begin singing the next part of the song-I bounce my mic off my face tipping the stand and twice I had to catch it from falling. Being bottom heavy keeps it from falling all the way to the floor saving the mic, the stand, avoiding the loud PA pop when it hits the floor and it significantly lowers my blood pressure now that I don't have to concern myself with that scenario.

I took the mic stand out of the box and assembled the parts, and the top section locked up. I believe it was "cross-threaded" and with all my strength I was not able to unscrew the thing. I'm pretty strong and I worked at it until my hands were blistered but it would not budge. Finally I called Musician's Friend and they were very good about it. They sent me a whole new one without having me return the bad one. I would say if you want a very nice mic stand there are probably better ones, but this is good for a cheapo.

Comments about Musician's Gear Die-Cast Mic Stand:

This is a great mic stand. The lock works as it should. Don't torque it down, and it should last a good long time. Locks with easy twist. The base is nice and heavy with jumbo rubber feet. I recommend it not be used with a boom without a counterweight.

Comments about Musician's Gear Die-Cast Mic Stand:

Plain and simple gets the job done. Far superior to stands that easily tip over when brushed by an instrument or someone's arm or leg. It would have been better had it come with a microphone holder, but I already had one from the last stand which cost more and had a tripod setup for the legs. The plastic in the base was its undoing; this one has a heavy metal base which is far stronger, more stable, and takes up less space. A great deal for a most reasonable price. Shipping was free. Kudos to Musician's Friend!

Comments about Musician's Gear Die-Cast Mic Stand:

The stand is a great value. We use it in our rehearsal space and occasionally use it on the road. It has a heavy/stable base and the height adjustment works fine. The metal gauge of the post is less than a comparable heavy duty stand, but it won't be getting rough handling and the cost is less than half of a heavy duty stand. We are pleased with it.

Comments about Musician's Gear Die-Cast Mic Stand:

Tripod stands take up a lot of floor space. Round base stands are easier to maneuver around in the studio and on stage. But the base has to be heavy. These stands are perfect for my studio: stable, black, small footprint, inexpensive.

But for the fact that the solid base is somewhat heavy, these stands are used to mount our Nady PM-200A & PM-100 near-field monitors with the mic adapters that are available They provide very stable support for these small monitors and we are most satisfied with them.
