I have a new student who's bass guitar had horrible strings on it. You know, the rusted, pitted this guitar has been sitting in a closet a few years strings? He has limited funds, so I pointed him to Musician's Friend, and these strings. I put them on at his next lesson, and I was fairly impressed. They are packaged very nicely, went on well and came to tune easily. After playing his guitar with these on, I was impressed with them. They are very bright however, so if you are looking for that flat wound sound, these probably are not for you, but, for modern rock, pop, and country, and even electric blues, they are fine.

They are so bright sounding I had a thought... I would buy a set and try them on my acoustic electric bass instead of phosphore bronze. They sound great! I actually ordered four sets to get the free shipping, thinking I could always use them up on student's guitars. Instead I'll be putting them on my acoustic for my own use.

These are such a bargain for what they cost it is unbelieveable! Try a set...

Please do yourself a favor spend a little extra and buy a decent set of bass strings. The gauges on this set match exactly with Ernie Ball Hybrid Slinky Bass strings. These strings are very cheap and poor quality and the pickups on your Bass will really reflect this. I found them to be a waste of money.. after replacing a Fender Jag Bass With the Ernie Ball string's what a difference in the sound quality. The Bass pickups wont respond well to these cheap strings... please you wont regret passing these up for better strings they will make a Huge difference in the sound quality and the way the pickups respond to the strings.

Comments about Musician's Gear Electric 4-String Nickel Plated Steel Bass Strings:

This is my 2nd set of these. Let me tell you about the 1st set.

When I put them on they stayed bright, round, and punchy with a hint of growling drive which diminished little by little over the course of 2 weeks. This was after being used for 3 live hour-long sets and 2 studio dates. Toward the end of that second week they kinda lost the sound I like to here and feel.

Higher priced name brands do the same thing. Sometimes they're worse. But these won't engage in taking the money out of your wallet by force. You can afford to change that often.

Next, I want to see if (a) set 2 will have the same characteristics and (b) set 1 can come back after a good boil and freezing.

Comments about Musician's Gear Electric 4-String Nickel Plated Steel Bass Strings:

Bassist for 34 years..tried them all. These are poor quality in their tonal presence. The set I got had a dead G string. No bright ring or snap to it. Try playing some slap and your G string has no bite..Disappointment sets in. Over the years, my fav sets have been Rotosound swing bass66, Dean Markley Blue steels, DR, and good old Fender stainless.

Comments about Musician's Gear Electric 4-String Nickel Plated Steel Bass Strings:

I now use these strings for the same reason that I have used Ernie Balls for years. Price, quality and consistency. I have been gigging 5-7 gigs a week (2-3 sets a gig) for quite sometime (10 yrs). I find that no matter what strings I use, they are dead within 2 weeks. I enjoy the sound of fresh strings personally and being able to change them every 2-4 weeks without breaking my wallet is very nice. It's also great having a bunch of packs stocked up as well. Musicians Gear strings work great for me and sound/feel as well, if not better than EB, D'Ads, GHS... If you are like me and cringe at the whole 'I've had this same set of strings on here for years' bit, then give these strings a try... At this great price, they are worth a shot!

I have been using these strings for a few years.
Never had any real issues. Some of the sets are a little dirty, but I always put string cleaner/conditioner on when I change strings for longer life.

some good strings for what you pay for. Not the best strings that i have ever had but then again i didn't have to pay 30 for. there is nothing wrong with these strings, I put them on and have been playing them like crazy. Have NOT had any problems with them and they have a great sound.

The brass end on 2 strings were too big to fit through the string ferrules. Was able to force 1 through. Now, it's stuck. The other two strings were fine. The Muscian's Gear 5 string set had no problems at all. These strings can be a good value, but can't even be used as backup if they don't fit :(

Nice bright strings. For the price I can keep fresh strings on all the time. They may be a bit bright and clanky though, and will not be used for tracking sessions and the like. Hard to beat for the money though.

I tried them out on a cheap-ish bass I had sitting around and love how it sounds. I really love the tone of these strings: very bright, very metallic-sounding. The coating on the strings feels a bit odd but it is nothing too significant. I have used them mainly in practicing but I want to try them out at the pep band I am a part of and do some recordings to see how well they sound there. They are just the sound I am looking for in my metal band and they have retained their metallic, bring sound for months! Considering how little I paid for a pack, it was very worth it!
