I purchased the musicians gear lighting stand and truss to get my lights organized in my studio and for occasional outside venues. I chose the truss for its t's and looks as well as price. It holds my 4 pars and a laser on the truss with strip lights on the trees very nicely. It's not much weight so I can't comment on overloading the truss. Setup caused a few head scratches as instructions were useless. A quick google on YouTube videos helped me correctly put it together. If you miss a step such as inserting the strength bars inside the center truss connects the whole lighting stand could be unsafe for use.
I ordered 1.5 inch O-clamps after reviews recommended them (and the MF sales agent) unfortunately the truss bars are fractionally too small. The clamps don't secure tightly without additional tape on the cross bars. I engineered the clamp insert with tape banding, locked on to the back of the plastic casting to solve the problem. The tape basically goes with the clamps when they're moved.
Overall a very nice looking truss for light (pardon the pun) operation. Due to lack of ratchet assist on raising the truss, I would not recommend this model for professional frequent events with heavy lights

Being a new DJ on a very tight budget I decided that this lighting stand and truss system would be perfect. I was so wrong. For a breakdown of my ratings:Features: I guess it would do the job if the proper t-clamps were included. Right now the features are of no advantage.Quality: The stands seem to be built good, and the truss is sturdy.Value: If I have to spend the same amount of money that this stand cost to make it usable, where is the value in that?Overall:The t-clamps supplied to hold the truss to the main stands were 1 1/4 inch diameter clamps, but the main shaft on the main stands are 1 1/2 inch in diameter. Therefore, I'm not able to put this together with the supplied hardware. Instead, I will need to purchase 1 1/2 t-clamps to make this system work. What makes this bad is there are a total of 6 t-clamps that are needed to make this unit a whole. Four of them for the truss, and two of them for the light bars on top of the main stands.

Comments about Musician's Gear Lighting Stand with Truss:

What a great piece of equipment! If you want a good light truss, don't hesitate to buy this item, we also hung our back-drop from hooks at the top, this truss is a must for any pros out there that want a professional, durable stand! We used it at an outdoor festival and even with people up on stage & a windy day, this stand stayed put. Thank You Musician's Friend!

Comments about Musician's Gear Lighting Stand with Truss:

I was worried that this might be TOO light weight after reading all the reviews but I was pleasantly surprised! With two trusses on each side of our group, something was needed behind the drummer. This is perfect!!! We are putting some "pin spots" and small effects, that need to be behind the drummer but up in the air on this . With our drummer being on a riser, this is perfect for variable heights. I also read about "more assembly instructions"....if you can't figure out the assembly WITHOUT instructions AT ALL...you probably don't need to be messing with the lights anyway!
ONLY thing...you need C clamps for additional fixtures. M/F has them for more than reasonable price, so no big deal. I bought 12 just to have enough!
Great deal....glad I bought it...you will be too!

Comments about Musician's Gear Lighting Stand with Truss:

When I ordered this stand I went into it thinking it was going to be flimsy and would just barely support my (very light) lighting setup.

I was wrong there, as it easily supports much more than what I'm working with, and it's very functional. Bows in the middle slightly, but it's only noticeable if you're looking for it.

Two things you have to know before you buy:

        1) The 10ft truss does not have holes drilled in it for C clamps, so you will need to purchase additional O clamps for this rig. The trees on both sides do have holes, so you're good there.

        2) You will likely need help raising this thing in the air, and bring a ladder, because you will need to hang your lights after it has been raised, not before. I suggest a crank-based truss if you would like to hang and wire before you raise.

Overall, a killer deal for the price. I'm happy.

Comments about Musician's Gear Lighting Stand with Truss:

Purchased this truss system the other day and used it over the weekend,
Simple to use fairly solid and secure, the whole system is a very thin aluminium which makes it very light but not the most sturdy, Had no problems with it, held 8 par 34 cans and a relay box.(did not need the T tops)
I just was being very careful not to over tighten all the knobs because they looked flimsy , But had no Problem with it,
Truss came with 2-1 foot sleeves to insert in the truss halves on the joint where they link, i guess to prevent the sag some were complaining about, Again I had No problem,
Good value for the price paid and made the stage look like a million!

Comments about Musician's Gear Lighting Stand with Truss:

The biggest complaint about this affordable and well built truss unit is the box used for shipping. Made in China and shipped by container, it doesn't see the abuse doled out by UPS, etc. The box is not rugged enough for the real world and arrived with miles of packaging tape, applied somewhere along the journey, to hold it together. Given the number of parts (dozens), it's a miracle everything arrived unscathed. It should be shipped inside a durable container.

Comments about Musician's Gear Lighting Stand with Truss:

Light weight, solid, and very stylish. even though, as a previous reviewer noted, that the pipes are a smaller than standerd, you can still use O-Clamps by getting a roll of kitchen drawer liners from Wal-Mart and cutting them into little strips to wrap around the pipe before attaching the O-Clamp. Not only will this make it fit, but the fit is more secure, more adjustable, but you wont scratch the pipes

Comments about Musician's Gear Lighting Stand with Truss:

I purchased theMF Lighting stand/truss as an "open Box" purchase and got a great buy on it. It was missing one of the top light bars on one end, but with a little ingenuity we made a replacement. I read a number of comments/reviews inferring that the unit was too flimsy, etc. There was a minor amount of bowing in the truss bar at the joint. However, we simply added two large wooden dowels to fit inside the main bars and the thing is rock solid! We are a performing band, 4 piece and we hang our 5 x 6 banner from the truss with a small 4-light highliter over it, and 2 small Am. DJ effects lights as well. On the light bars we hang a large and a small stage light on each side. We've etched/numbered each stop on the sliding uprights so as we raise the sides simultaneously we know what stop we're on. It doesn't take 2 of us more than about 10 minutes to completely set up the truss with all the lights attached and ready. I made a carry/storage case for it, so it's completely portable and stores easily. It probably isn't something that a larger touring band would rely on day in and day out, but for a smaller rock band that plays out ocassionally it's perfect. We were able to easily adapt it to our needs, beef it up a little where needed, and with good care it'll last us many years. Gave it 4 stars only because the open box we bought was missing some parts....otherwise great truss for the money!

I just got this truss tonight and as I'm setting it up, I'm noticing that some of the joints won't fit onto the pipes. Right now I'm thinking I'll need to buy my own joints at a hardware store or return it. My plan is to drill holes into the truss to add special effects lighting. I guess for the price it's not bad but those joint fittings not working is annoying.

Comments about Musician's Gear Lighting Stand with Truss:

Great overall stand system, and for the price, you can't go wrong. Lots of versatility, and with a little modification, it can hold a bunch of lights. HOWEVER, the pipes are 1-1/4" in diameter, adn no one makes a round clamp that size. You'll find 1", 1.5" and 2" clamps everywhere, but none for this rig. So you go to a C clamp and bolt, but it will cave in your tubes in any position other than hanging straight down. That takes away most of the versatility if you can't put lights on top too. Keep that in mind. Good value, but you'll have to be a little bit of an inventor too.

Comments about Musician's Gear Lighting Stand with Truss:

I have used this once , and I think with a little modifying , it will be ok I need to make bigger holes and bolts (needs to be 3/8 instead of 5/16 in order to hold the lights more sucure), other than that , I believe it's a great product .
