I'll have to admit these are light duty stands, but that's all I need and they definitely a good value considering the price. I didn't want to pay a lot for backup stands. Like all the other reviews say, don't over-tighten anything. The boom counterweight is almost non-existent so don't expect to adjust the boom out near it's maximum position with anything but the lightest condenser mic. Otherwise you will either need to add more counterweight or count on the stand tipping over.

There seems to be a lot of confusion about the term "telescoping" and "fixed" when used to describe booms. For those not familiar with these terms, they are referring to whether the "length" of the boom itself is adjustable, not whether the boom's position relative to the stand can be adjusted (and all the Musician's Gear telescoping and fixed booms I've seen can). So telescoping simply means "telescoping length boom".

That being said, the Description for this 3-pack says "telescoping boom" and the Features list says "fixed boom". The stands I received had fixed booms which is what I expected since that is what is pictured in the product photo on the web page. Just click on the photo Zoom tool and look up and down the boom - you will see no knob for the telescoping clutch. Now enter 451052 into the Search box at the top of the page. This will bring up a picture of a stand with a telescoping boom. Use the Zoom tool to make a comparison. Hope this helps reduce the confusion.

For the price, you can't really beat this deal. The stands are solid except for the rubber feet. Your going to want to gorilla glue them on, or they will slip off on the first gig and be lopsided (happened to me.). The cables are really thin, and seem fragile. "Set 'em and forget 'em", is how I use them. Connect them to a direct box, or someplace else where they aren't going to get a lot of movement. I wouldn't recommend using them for a vocalist who is going to be holding the mic, it will cut out on you. Also, they only 20 foot cables, so unless your using a snake, they won't reach accross a stage and up an mic stand. I've used them for a coulple gigs so far, no problems yet. I'm not going to take any chances however and put these products through much abuse, because tumbling around in my roadcase is about all they can handle I think.

Comments about Musician's Gear Tripod Mic Stand with 20-Foot Mic Cable (3-Pack):

This comment isn't so much about the product as it is about the service I experienced from Musician's Friend. The order went as expected, but when I opened the box, I found that I had receive 4 mic cables instead of the 3 that were ordered. So your, thinking score! Free cable. Well, I'm old fashioned compared to most these days and actually felt I should call and let them know that they sent me a cable I didn't pay for. Sure, the cost of this cable probably wouldn't justify the cost of shipping it back, but I felt I should do the right thing anyway. When I talked to the service rep, I could tell he was quite surprised that I would actually call to report an error that fell in my favor. The cool thing though, was that the rep was really pleasant and appreciative and said I could keep the extra cable. I expected that that was probably going to be the case, but I would have been just as fine if he wanted to have me send it back. In any case, I felt like the folks at MF are really into providing a good experience as well as good products.

As for the mic stands and cables. They are on the less expensive side and I've only just put them to use, so I can't yet speak to the quality and how they stand up over time, but they appear to be well constructed with relatively quality material. The connections on the mic cables seem to be solid and less likely to pull apart unlike a current set that I have that I'm constantly having to re-solder. The mic stands seem well balance and the hinges on the legs are firm and is steady. Great deal, IMHO.

Comments about Musician's Gear Tripod Mic Stand with 20-Foot Mic Cable (3-Pack):

Ordered three of these stands. All were fully functional. They a little light. If "Mongo" is in your band, he's probably your drummer. Have him work on his drums as you break down the microphones and stands. Breaking down his own gear is usually all you can expect from a drummer anyway! With a little care and the inevitable repairs, these stands should last years.

I have bought these stands before and was impressed with the quality for the price. Not so much this time. The photos do not represent the product. The ones that are shipping now feel cheaper and the plastic connector at the bottom is gone, and so is the barbell-bolt at the top. Cheap, cheap, cheap... I'd send them back but the price is so low it's not worth my time. Not a deal breaker, MF, but sadly disappointed.

Comments about Musician's Gear Tripod Mic Stand with 20-Foot Mic Cable (3-Pack):

These are definitly not tour-grade stands and cables, but, if you're going on a major tour, you're probably not shopping at this price-point.

They are functional, decent stands that will last you a while if you gigging a couple weekends a month. The junction at the bottom, where the legs are attached is stamped metal, as is the boom assembly. They'll probably get sloppy after a while.

The stands funtion fine. There is a little droop of the boom if you don't tighten it well. I usually end up replacing the washers on my booms with real rubber washers eventually anyways. I hope the threads on the adjuster screw are a standard pitch so I can find a replacement for when I either lose one, or break the plastic handle.

Bottom line on the stands is that they're decent and well worth the price. They're good, not great.

The cables seem fine. The actual cable is better than I expected and flexible, instead of stiff and plastic feeling, like I expected. The connectors are pretty good. No slop in the pins or latch. They have a screw so you can take them apart and service them if you need to.

The stands get a B-, the cables get a B+.

Great stands for the cost. The fact that they aren't telescopic doesn't hurt them.
Just watch overtightening the boom, because the bolt can be stripped out if you crank it too hard.

Comments about Musician's Gear Tripod Mic Stand with 20-Foot Mic Cable (3-Pack):

For any active use consider these disposable stands. All three became unusable within two years of moderate use. The weakest link it the the knob that secures the boom rod in position, it easily strips out the threads.
For a stationary stand, home studio or left in place for a practice room or such, they might be adequate. \
Cords seem OK, just keep spares, these will short over time if used a lot.
