broken out of the box

By oldworlddragon

Comments about Musician's Gear Vintage Violin Bass Case:

A latch popped of on the very first time I opened the case. I then tried the fit of my Hofner Icon B. The padded area on the bottom of the case where the body rests has a raised angled pad. The way the bass lays on it makes the the neck angle up in the case. I would have had to put way to much pressure on the neck to get it to close. It did not fit the violin bass and the quality was poor given the fact the rivets on a latch just popped off on the first opening. I'll try for the cheaper case because its hard to find a case.

Here's A Suggestion..........

Comments about Musician's Gear Vintage Violin Bass Case:

Why buy something new that you have to rip apartand modify ? I bought a Jay Turser Beatle bass andjust for fun decided to see if it would fit in an SKB case I already had that is made for an ES335 style guitar, worked perfectly.

Violin bass case that doesn't fit violin basses

By Ziv-gWP7w

from Atlanta, GA

Comments about Musician's Gear Vintage Violin Bass Case:

The Musicians Gear vintage violin bass case will not be likely to fit your violin bass without modification. I purchased it shortly after buying another Musician's Friend house product, the Rogue VB-100, expecting that it would fit since they're both house brands. No go; the neck support is much too tall, and causes the headstock of the guitar to stand at an angle such that the case cannot be closed without damaging the bass. Like other customers, I had to remove screws, pull out the styrofoam block, peel off the crushed velvet, and manually trim its height down until it was correct.Beyond that, it's an average case. The latches all operate smoothly and are lined up correctly, but feel a little on the flimsy side. There are enough of them to where I still feel comfortable, but I wouldn't send this through the airport. Even after modification, the bass flops loosely around inside, so anything rougher than hand-carrying it to your gig would probably be too much.See if you can find something better. It's really ont worth the trouble.

The Bass in the Pic Doesn't Fit Either

By Bobthegood

from Maplewood, MN

Comments about Musician's Gear Vintage Violin Bass Case:

I read the other reviews before I ordered, and gave it a shot anyway. I own the Epiphone Viola bass in the picture. Guess what, it didn't fit either. Same issue, neck supports too tall, and you can't put the guitar in without damaging it. Unlike the other guys, I removed both supports; removed the 7 screws, and worked them free from the glue. They're made of crushed velvet over the top of about 1/16" plywood ends and a Styrofoam center. I measured the right height, cut the bottoms off both supports with a bread knife, and then screwed them back in. Took less than 10 minutes. I like the case, but really don't think you should have to modify it before you can even use it. Epiphone is coming out with a retro flat case in a couple of weeks for those who don't want to mess around.

becareful

By Hofman50

Comments about Musician's Gear Vintage Violin Bass Case:

Case does not fit Hofner Icon. Be prepared to make modifications. The neck support in the center of the case is to high, making the case impossible to close without crushing the bridge. Remove the 4 screws securing it cut through the glue and work it out.

Rogue VB100 fit problem

By BW

from Nebraska

Comments about Musician's Gear Vintage Violin Bass Case:

This is a very nice case, much nicer than the less expensive model available. Solid construction and great appearance. However, the support for the low end of the neck holds the bass too high, not allowing the case to close. Removal of this support allows the case to close, but I'm somewhat concerned about the lack of support at the base of the neck. It seems that the guitar body rests on the padding, so the neck is not taking the full weight of the bass. Anyway, I'm not a "traveling" musician, so this should provide adequate protection for in-home storage.
