I bought this stand after reading several reviews here. I'm not very impressed. First, the color is almost a painted red more than a mahogany stain. Second, it is poorly made, the adjustable tilt doesn't tighten enough to hold in place. I'm afraid to tighten it enough that it may crack. Third, the legs are held in place by a large thumb screw and washer. On my stand, one of the legs was shorter than the other two. When tightened that leg is still loose. Fourth, the threaded rods embedded into the wooden base and tilt mount were not at a 90 degree angle. Because of this, the metal section sits at an angle. All in all, if you are looking for a nice looking stand but can't afford to spend more than $40 than this one may be fine otherwise save up a few extra bones and by a nicer stand.

I wish I had read reviews before we purchased this stand. I had the same problems as everyone else. The desk won't tighten enough to keep from flopping forward. We also can't tighten the height adjustment knob enough to keep the stand from slowly sliding back downward. The stand itself is crooked - I guess the legs are not even.It looks nothing like the picture, but the ugly red color is the least of its problems. I would never recommend this stand to anyone. I bought this stand a couple of years ago and used it as best I could just so the purchase wasn't a total waste. I plan on donating it to our church yard sale in the spring. It might be worth $1 to somebody. But it is DEFINITELY not worth what it costs here or anywhere else. Total yard sale quality.

You get what you pay for!

Comments about Musician's Gear Wooden Music Stand:

I took a chance and bought the Musician's Gear wooden music stand against my better judgement after reading some of the negative reviews. I wanted a wooden stand that fit in with the rest of our decor to replace the rickety metal stands we had, but didn't have the money at the time to shell out for a really good one. As others mention, the finish is much more red than the photo and rather unnatural looking, so it looked a bit cheap to begin with and honestly didn't fit in with the rest of our furniture. We had trouble keeping the top part of it tightened enough so that it didn't flop forward, so the music constantly fell off onto our kids as they were playing. It was so unsturdy that it eventually fell over and the top part completely broke, so we just threw it away after less than a year of owning it. I found a clearance special on a very sturdy wooden stand with a high quality finish at a local music shop, so that has thankfully replaced it and will more than likely last for years.

Nice looking, but cheap quality

By Cello Student

from New York, NY

Comments about Musician's Gear Wooden Music Stand:

The stand is reasonabley attractive (much nicer than the fold-up metal stands), but it is of very shoddy construction. The first one I had broke while I was still assembling it. The second one survived about three weeks of very sedate cello lessons, and then the legs started to fall off. The other downside is that it is not very adjustable for height, which is a problem if you play your instrument seated. To their credit, this company has been extremely helpful. Each time they took it back, paying for shipment, without giving me any hassle. I was very impressed with the quality of Customer Service. In the end, I think you get what you pay for. A good quality wooden stand costs about $200. I should have been suspicious about a wooden stand for this price.

Do you like Fire-Engine Red???

By NewLifeWorshipLeader

Comments about Musician's Gear Wooden Music Stand:

I bought a Musicians Gear Wooden Music Stand as a gift for my wife and and was disappointed with the quality. The first thing I noticed is that the mahogony color is much more of a fire-engine red paint. One of the legs warped, causing the paint to crack and flake off on that leg. It doesn't really stand up quite straight, and you can't put a heavy book on it because the tilt adjustment on the desk doesn't hold.

Pros

  • Well Made For The Price

Cons

  • Angle Of Plateform
  • Sitting In Chair Too High
  • Unstable

Best Uses

  • Home Studio

Comments about Musician's Gear Wooden Music Stand:

The music stand is good and is functional. The compression fit for plateform angle is not the best. The finish of the wood from picture showed more brownish the actual finish was more reddish. When sitting in a regular chair the stand at the lowest setting is too tall, have to set on a stool for the lowest setting.

Don't be fooled

By ILoveMusic

from Adirondacks, NY

Comments about Musician's Gear Wooden Music Stand:

I bought this after researching the wooden music stands on line (like the previous reviewer). After receiving the item, I would disagree that the picture doesn't do it justice... I think the picture does it pretty much justice. I don't have a "wow" response. This is a good music stand that is obviously mass produced overseas and you're going to notice a few (or more) imperfections in the finish. Don't be fooled. this is not an expensive wooden music stand, it's worth about what you pay for it. My wife loves it more than me, but then again she was always using the black stands or the folding aluminum ones.

Comments about Musician's Gear Wooden Music Stand:

The quality of this product blew me away. The wood is not only a warm color but very strong in its construction. All the pieces fitted nicely in the brainless assmebly and to which you can observe the quality. I purchase that I am more than satisfied with due to the quality and the price.

    Build Your Own

    By Doug-7KDl7

    from Morris, AL

Comments about Musician's Gear Wooden Music Stand:

I've entitled this little review "Build your own" because no matter your approach in doing so, it will turn out better than this stand. Shotty craftsmanship, cheap parts, this half wooden/half tin-foil music stand started falling apart the day I got it. One of the bolts snapped in two, one of the legs popped off where they had tried to counter-sink the screws and ended up stripping it out. I wish some one had warned me and told me not to buy this piece of junk. It makes me want a wood stove.
