New Generation of Case! BEWARE!

By RiCHARD.GEAR

from Austin, Texas

Comments about Odyssey Flite Zone 1200 Turntable Case:

I hate to knock on Odyssey, I've been using their gear since I started Deejaying 11 years ago. however, when I went to buy a pair of new FZ1200 cases, I noticed that then weren't quite the same (between the pari, that is). The most shocking deference was that the locking ball joint on only one of the cases fit properly. Upon closer inspection, I could tell that one of the cases was made with heavier duty, adhered foam to the lid and the other was a lower grade, softer style foam that was merely Velcro-ed. Now I can understand the velcro so you can move the foam around instead of just having the pressure on the platter, but why cheaper foam? But back to the ball joints. When I placed the order, I recieved one case right away, and the other was backordered for over a month. the first case was of an older, better generation and was exactly what I had dreamed of and why I trusted the Odyssey Brand. When the second one arrived, I immediately noticed the flaws in it's production. I sent that one back, hoping that it was only a flaw in that particular unit. after receiving my second one, I can only assume that this problem is effecting all the current stock. After speaking to Odyssey, they informed me that a new generation had come out around April or May of this year. He also told me that Odyssey NEVER implies that one should STACK the bottom half of the case upon the top, despite all the photos on their site. Fishy, no? So it looks like I'll have to return the case, for the second time and start exploring other case manufacturers.... sigh.
