This stand is definitley a step up from the cheap boom stands around. I confess to using the cheap ones for vocals and other things but I needed a more stable stand for overhead mic on drums. This is pretty good. It is stable and extends a good height and length. There are better quality stands that would last longer but I hope to get a good few years out of this one. I like On Stage Stands branded products overall as they are always decent quality for reasonable money.

Nice looking materials, but ultimately poorly made where it counts the most.
Where the boom attaches will never tighten and stay in place because the threaded part at the top of the vertical stand just spins in place. They just notched the pole and stuck the piece in there, expecting a most minimal amount of friction to suffice. No way. Maybe ok straight-on for a guitarist, but useless for keyboard players. Unless you want to have to keep pulling your mic back to you.
It's in the garbage.

    Comments about On-Stage Stands MS9701TB+ Heavy-Duty Tele-Boom Mic Stand:

I just received this On Stage boomer and I can attest to its quality, Wow! I have some of On Stage's cases, so I decided to try this stand. Great decision. It is sturdy(heavy) and has good features. I think the price is fair, this will last a long time. If you have to get one stand, this should be it. It can be an overhead mic stand for drums, or a vocal mic stand, too. A very good value.

The On Stsge Euro telecom is a great mic stand. It is a bit on the heavy side which could be either a pro or a con depending on one's view of such things. It is definately sturdy and the telescoping boom arm makes it very versatile. I had originally purchased a musician's gear stand and it didn't meet my needs. Musician's Friend sent me this one (at a great discount) as a replacement/ exchange.

This is the only type of On-Stage boom stand to buy (including the fixed boom or short stand models). The heavy duty stands are 100X better than their regular duty, which break constantly. Spend the extra $$ and get something that will last most of your career.

For the price, you cannot beat this stand. Some people complain about it being too heavy for them. Believe me, heavy is good if you're going to use it all of the time. It's very stable, dependable and stays where you put it.

I've used these stands for years of gigging and getting them banged around, and I haven't had any problems at all. These are a solid choice for any use.

                          Comments about On-Stage Stands MS9701TB+ Heavy-Duty Tele-Boom Mic Stand:

We had been using cheaper mic stands and the thumb screws at the base would not hold the main tube secure so it kept sinking until it hit the floor at which time it became a pivot point and we were always chasing our mics around. We bought two to try them. So far they have worked fine.

This is a heavy, solid stand. The counterweight on the end of the boom offsets some of the weight of the mic, so you don't have to over-tighten the boom. The base is heavy, and the fold-out legs are solid. Seems like it will survive the abuse of four bands a week using it at our church.

                                      Comments about On-Stage Stands MS9701TB+ Heavy-Duty Tele-Boom Mic Stand:

Very solid and well made. Weighs 9 lbs. Excellent range and very versitile in tight spaces as well. I'm tired of replacing the cheap stands every 2 to 3 years and feel this was absolutely worth the extra money.
