Comments about On-Stage Stands SB96+ Studio Boom Microphone Stand:
I am a drummer/vocalist who has not yet gotten used to the idea of a headset microphone. As a vocalist I like to sing at different proximities from the mic which a headset mic does not allow.Enter the On-Stage SB96+ Studio Boom Microphone Stand. With a boom length of 76 inches there is plenty of reach from any angle to get your mic in close to you. I prefer the stand to be in back of me with the mic directly in front of me. But if room does not allow for the stand to be in back, it can easily be put to the left or right and still reach with ease. This is true even if you have a rather large set of drums as I do. The upright part of the stand extends to 79" which allows the boom to be high enough to be completely out of the way of errant sticks. The locking mechanism are teeth which interlock via the turning of large knobs which allow for a strong grip. Once set, this stand does not move. The spread of the base is plenty big enough to add plenty of stability. The casters are a plus also if you have to move the stand for whatever reason. Plus they lock so as to hold the stand in place. This stand can also pull duty for overhead mics as well. The boom is long enough to put 2 overhead mics on it. The second mic can be easily placed using the On-Stage MSA-9508 Posi-Lok Side Mount Boom which can be mounted anywhere along the length of the boom. This is a heavy stand with sturdy features. The only down side to it might be that it does not fit into my speaker stand bags because it is so long. However, I have not looked into the possibility that there may be a bag specifically made for this stand.I've had many mic stands over the years but this is the best boom stand I've used or seen.
Comments about On-Stage Stands SB96+ Studio Boom Microphone Stand:
I bought mine here, and I MUST say, for the $, THIS THING IS GREAT!My studio is only running maybe 3 days per week, so it's not an ultra heavy use, but it's used, adjusted, used, adjusted, etc constantly! For the $, I think it's AWESOME!ONLY thing I don't like about it, is the footprint for storage, but LOVE the big footprint for holding heavy mics.If you break this thing, my guess is your hard on your gear. My clients,, some are VERY hard on gear! I feel confident this stand will hold up nicely!About a year of use, NOT a single issue. I have my legs bolted in place. I could see a problem with the legs folding if the bolts aren't installed. ie:If you move the stand from location to location, THIS could be an issue.
Comments about On-Stage Stands SB96+ Studio Boom Microphone Stand:
In comparison, my other mic stands look like they're made of coat-hangers. This thing is thick, rugged, and heavy. Got this for hanging my heavy condenser mic - which always sagged my old stand so I had to constantly push it up - push it up - push it up. So now we're happy and appropriately erect. Nice finish too. Should be around for 20 years or so. Good product. Thanks.
Comments about On-Stage Stands SB96+ Studio Boom Microphone Stand:
I've owned a pair of these for four years and they are still holding up well. The only real problem has been the fold out legs. They can over bend IF you don't use the locking screws that come with the stands. These stands have been used for on-site recording and are put together and taken apart several times a week. They have held up very well and I have just ordered three more.
Comments about On-Stage Stands SB96+ Studio Boom Microphone Stand:
This stand has some innovative features (thus the "7" score for Features) but it is poorly constructed and falls apart quickly. The threads in the vertical adjustments get stripped easily, and the metal is easily bent. The only good part about it is the extra small joint at the end of the boom. With regular usage, however, this stand won't last maybe a year, even if you're lucky.
