I initially reviewed this stand last fall. Our band uses it on gigs and practices ever since with no problems - None. I should point out that our singer is . . . well, let's say he's not gentle (I buy replacement mic grills by the case). He's become, by default, a product tester for most of our gear and the Peak SM-52 stand/boom combo has stood the test. Since last fall I've bought 4 more Peak SM-52s.I've read some of the reviews posted recently that criticize this stand, unfairly I think, because of weak cam-locks. The strength of all of the cam-locks in adjustable. They come from the factory fairly loose so it's necessiary to tighten them up before use. I don't know if previous reviewers weren't aware of this or if their units have defects I haven't yet experienced with my 5 stands. To increase the "gripping strength" of the cam-locks you release the cam lever and rotate it clockwise - usually no more than a turn. If you can't easily re-lock the cam lever, you've over-tightened it and need to back it off until the cam lever locks with only firm pressure. I hang a large diameter studio condenser mic off the end of the extended boom (with sandbags on the stand's feet) without the mic sagging, slipping or creeping. As our other mic stands break, I will be replacing them with Peak SM-52s and if I do find a fault or issue, including weak cam-locks, I'll re-post here.

I sing lead in a rock band, and at a bar gig last night, with the boom 2/3 extended at a 45 degree upward angle from the tripod this thing was leaning BAD! I had to place heavy objects on the legs. The problem is the legs are not stiff enough- that is they don't lock sturdy enough, and the tripod tips easily when the legs move in the cradles from the weight of just the mic on the boom. I will probably use the boom on a different tripod, as the boom works great.
I got this on stupid deal of the day for less than half what it is going for regular. Good deal at that price. It is functional, but the operation of the mechanisms is a bit complex for those in the band who handle equipment roughly. Nice concept.
Don't think this will hold up for those who have bandmates who overtighten, don't have a clue, or are rough on equipment.
Good value at the price I got. For the regular price, no.

Comments about Peak Music Stands SM-52 Tripod Mic Stand with Boom Arm:

This product will be used in many portable applications. Out of the box they were a little heavy, but there's nothing worse than a microphone boom that's too light. One piece assembly took less than 5 minutes and adjustment is done through a cam system. As others have mentioned the cam tightness can be adjusted with an Allen wrench, but I have not needed to make any changes. I would definitely purchase another one of these.

Great stand for the price. Excellent for back-up use and for extra stands. Like the quick-set hardware. May be a little lightweight for heavy road use - durability and stability - not known.

Comments about Peak Music Stands SM-52 Tripod Mic Stand with Boom Arm:

It's fine. The lever-clamps take a little training, but it's stable and collapses to a nice compact 3 feet or so. Some reviews suggest the authors don't understand that the levers only work right if the screws (two with Phillips head and two with Allen wrench heads) are adjusted to determine how tight the clamps work. We use it only a few times a year, so none of this is important to us. Frequent users might find it too time consuming.

Comments about Peak Music Stands SM-52 Tripod Mic Stand with Boom Arm:

This is not made as well as an expensive mic stand would be, but considering that it is so cheap it is not bad at all. I've used it for a few performances, and the microphone stayed in place. No complaints...it's fine and i think it will last a while if it's not abused too much.

Comments about Peak Music Stands SM-52 Tripod Mic Stand with Boom Arm:

I ordered 2 of these stands on sale. They arrived in a few days and I have been impressed with them for the money. The tubing is pretty stout and the locks are quick to use and adjust. The locks did need to be adjusted, you will need an allen wrench. There is one exception and that is the lock for the boom slide. It is not adjustable for tension and would slip with the weight of my MXL990 at a steep angle. Both of the stands have this problem so I assume it is common. The fix was simple however, I cut a slip of plastic from a milk jug to go between the lever lock and the friction piece and the problem was solved. Peak should address this with their part mold but my fix works well. I am using them for a Church Band and also for recording. These are gentile settings.
