Comments about Pearl DCL300P Drop Clutch:

Two big features stand out about this clutch: The "drop switch" is vertical which for me makes using it to lower my top hi-hat cymbal much more natural compared to cheaper horizontal switched clutches. Secondly the overall materials quality is impressive - very nice rubber cymbal washers instead of felt and quality chromed steel, for example, rather than cheap looking and feeling materials. Worth the very few extra dollars for the quality. You get what you paid for when it comes to hardware, and little differences like this free you up to think about your playing rather than whether your hardware is going to work right.

Comments about Pearl DCL300P Drop Clutch:

I just purchased this drop clutch recently from my local drum shop, and couldn't be happier. The only problem I have with it is that you NEED to hit the rubber lever at a certain angle. Now, this probably doesn't seem like a problem, but couple this with the fact that the clamp for the upper half of the clutch isn't very secure, and you have a problem for heavy hitters like me. Oftentimes, I'll go to drop the hats, and wind up spinning the entire mechanism. However, this is rare, and has never really posed too much of an inconvenience.

Comments about Pearl DCL300P Drop Clutch:

I?m into performance as well as looks and this drop clutch has it all. Simple to use and very precise. I switched from my Gibraltar after the lever broke and noticed a huge improvement with my Pearl. I play fast, hard and into speed, and so far this clutch has not let me down!

Perfect for any Double Bass Drummer

      By Derek Estevez

Comments about Pearl DCL300P Drop Clutch:

This Drop clutch is made by Pearl, so you know it's the best. This clutch works extremely well and moves very smoothly and has a rubber coating on it so when it's hit, it makes less noise. This is extremely useful to recording musicians and drummers in general.

I just got this clutch, and its helping a lot. Its nice to be able to play on a hi hat and double bass. I highly recommend this to anyone that uses double bass a lot.

      Not made for heavy hitters

      By Nutz4Nitro

      from Ohio

Comments about Pearl DCL300P Drop Clutch:

This unit is well made, and would probably work great for a light hitter, but for a heavy hitter like me, it's worthless. The clutch will not stay disengaged when playing heavy, washy quarters on the hats. The top hat just bounces up and the clutch grabs it. I tried adjusting the grabbing mechanism as tight as it would go but had the same problem. I'm returning it today. Very disappointed as I'm a huge fan of pearl hardware. Looks like a set of aux hats are in my near future.

Comments about Pearl DCL300P Drop Clutch:

I am pleased with the construction, as I am with most of Pearl's hardware products. I especially like the rubber pads versus the felt. Felt does in fact get the job done, but there is the loss of loft in felt that overtime always occurs. I guess a down side would be that felts are easily replaced and inexpensive, and easy to rig but the rubber seems so nice.

Clutches are probably not a necessity, but I like the utility they bring. If you place double basses there is probably a real need for these. And although I do not double pedal, nor double bass I still like the option.

The quick tap release is a primary reason why I selected this model.
