The Planet Waves Chromatic Headstock Tuner precisely tunes guitars, basses and many other stringed instruments using your instrument's vibrations rather than sound. No direct sound or electronic signal is required. Using an optimally positioned, highly sensitive piezo transducer and backlit LCD display, this chromatic tuner quickly and accurately helps you tune, even in noisy or dimly lit environments where many tuners fail. The tuner's compact, lightweight design doesn't add cumbersome mass to your instrument and is easy to see from any angle.
Calibration
The Planet Waves Headstock Tuner defaults to the industry-standard A440 tuning frequency. To adjust the tuner to another setting, simply press the calibrate button on the rear side of the tuner display. With each press of the button, the reference pitch will change in 1Hz increments.
Continually press the calibrate button until the pitch you desire shows in the display.

I always like to share my review with other consumers here. I've been using this tuner for a year now and I must tell you honestly, it hasn't failed me yet. It's a very good item to have if you don't know how to tune your guitar manually like me. You'll know that it really works when you tune your guitar and play a LICK or a RIFF that you like afterwards. In my case, I've been playing this intro riff of HOUSE OF THE RISING SUN of ANIMALS and it really sounds perfect after my guitar has been tuned by this tuner. As far as the physical quality of this one, those people that said it failed them because it broke, they are wrong, either they don't know how to use it properly or they don't know how to take good care of it.In my opinion, anything in this world that you own if you don't take good care of it, it will break and it's gonna fail you, CAPIZ ?BUY THIS PRODUCT and you're gonna love it because it's very useful and reliable, ok? Peace !!!

This tuner does what the name implies, but it is very difficult to position on some guitar headstocks and still be seen because of the fixed head. I prefer the mini planet wave over this model and it is less money. My recommendation would be to purchase two Snark tuners for the price of this one planet wave.

Go get a tuner with a mic and instrument chord input. Even if you don't need the mic that type of tuner is far more accurate and easier to tune with than this.
Clearly seen, on off button... pretty basic. After around a year the spring broke so I went and got a tuner with an input and mike. I started playing upright and tuba and the inflexibility of a headstock tuner made tuning the upright a gymnastic event (holding the clamp on the basses bridge and looking in a mirror to see the tuner's screen).
I play a 6 string bass. This freakin thing made tuning my low B string take longer than tuning every other string.
I paid for a miced tuner with and instrument cable input. This was mainly for by upright bass and tuba, but even if the spring on this one was working I would still use the the new miced tuner for my electric bass or anything else with a head stock.

I have had two of these tuners, and I certainly would not bother with a third. The first one worked great for about two months, and then proceeded to automatically shut off immediately after start up. I returned it, and got another, which worked for all of four days before it demonstrated the same problem. I gave up on it, then spent the extra money on a different tuner. And I have been happy as a clam for over a year (although I admit to not truly knowing if clams are happy, or why.)
While I initially liked the back-lit display and its low cost, if its not going to last worth a hoot, I dont need it it wastes my time and money. And I sure dont want my tuners acting like a petulant chump just before a gig. Ive been playing for over 40 years, and Ive had plenty of tuners in my day. From a durability standpoint, this is the worst Ive ever owned. Mind you, this tuner was not abused, and never dropped. Further, I agree with the reviews that mentioned it is flimsy in design, and is not the most convenient to clip to various headstocks.

I think this tuner works OK, but I found it hard to find a place to mount it on my headstocks. The way the clamp mechanism works doesn't make me feel too confident it's going to stay put. I think the tuner tracks OK and is accurate, but overall it just feels a little flimsy. It's very convenient, but not my favorite way to tune.

I owned this for less than a year, and it was always carried in the accessories compartment of my guitar's case. For many months it worked very well; it's accurate and easy to use.THEN...it started being less accurate, more fussy when trying to tune a string.THEN...I dropped it. Less than two feet, onto a carpeted floor...and it completely flamed out. It wouldn't even stay on 8 out of ten times, and when it would, it wouldn't detect any string on my guitar. It's completely useless now, and Planet Waves did not respond to my inquiry at their cust/supp website. Lame. I liked the unit, but I won't buy another.

You gotta love this little tuner - reads easy indoors or outdoors in the sun. Does a great job tuning no matter what note you want to tune to. I've had mine for about a year. Dropped several times, still works just fine. Own a strobe tuner and two other guitar tuners - this is my favorite for general use!

i got this for Christmas, and have not been disappointed. i read the reviews, & haven't had any of those problems. Main thing that made it a keeper was when last week i washed it by accident. i stuck in a bag of rice for 2 days, and it works better than ever!!! i recommend this to anyone!!!

And for the price seems ok, I don't gig out with banjo or my acoustic really. So don't think durability be too much of a problem. Is a tad tricky to get a good line of sight of it on my banjo.
