Durable, sensitive, and reliable.
The Desktop True-Strobe Tuner from Planet Waves is durable, reliable and spans virtually all tuning applications. The True Strobe or "Tru-Strobe" instrument tuner is extremely accurate—+/- .1 cent—and sensitive. Use built-in microphone or 1/4" input/output.
The purest input tones yield the best results. Here's how to achieve optimal tuning:
Pluck the string with a light to moderate stroke. Strings will usually go slightly sharp right after the initial attack. Excessive or heavy plucking of the string will increase this effect. Give the string a second to "settle" before tuning.
Pluck the string with the flesh of your thumb. This will yield less harmonic information for the tuner to analyze then using a pick.
Turn the tone knob of the instrument down. This again will roll off high-end harmonic details and input a more fundamental tone.
Lower the volume of the guitar 30% to 50%. This will usually yield less harmonic detail and input gain.
While coarse tuning look at the entire display for movement. When the action of the LED's begin slowing to a halt, look at the leading LED for movement and continue to tune until the LED stops in place.

I have used this tuner for about 6 months and this is the second review I'm submitting. After that time, I must let prospective buyers know that while this is a good quality tuner, it consumes batteries at an alarming rate! It also has a hard time identifying the high E string. It eventually recognizes it, but it takes a while. The handbook says that when inline between a guitar and amp, it doesn't use the battery...I suspect this to be untrue! Be sure to turn it off after tuning or you'll use a battery every few times you use the tuner. To me, this is an unacceptable design flaw.
This is one special tuner. It's made of die-cast metal. It's color is the color of tungsten jewelry. It makes any room/place look nice, unlike any other tuner I have seen out there. It's extremely sturdy. These days, you won't find true class like this little tuner. A little piece from the "shining lands" that makes the sound of my guitar sing. It lights up a vibrant blue, unlike the other tuners that have the face of a cheap calculator for the same price or higher. This is something that you ""CANNOT"" go wrong with buying. It is above quality. It's the prettiest piece of technology i've ever seen, and an extremely accurate tuner.
With a strong metal case, easy functions, and extreme accuracy, this thing is great. It will take a bit of getting used to such sensitivity, but you get better at it as you go along. The built-in mic picks up your acoustic tones quite well, and you can use it inline for electric use. At the current sale price, you have to buy this one rather than one of the other popular tuners.
got this when my korg pitch black stopped working. this planet waves tuner works perfect. the strobe takes a few minutes to get used to but once you do you'll be in perfect tune. works great for a 5 string bass. it actually reads the low b unlike other tuners. its built really solid too. price is great, you won't find a strobe tuner this cheap. highly reccomended.
This tuner is solid. When I saw the pictures I thought the case was plastic, but it is a heavy metal case. Another great thing about this tuner is that it has a built in mic so you can tune acoustic instruments as well. The only reason I gave it a little lower rating on features is because some people might be turned off by the fact that it doesn't do drop tunings (but its not a huge problem since its chromatic). This tuner is accurate so its equally at home on stage or in the studio.
love this tuner. more accurate then my sweep tuners. when they read at zero , the strobewill still indicate slightly flat or sharp. likethe blue color, didn't buy the a/c cord but preferthe portability. nothing better for the price.no yearly service or calibration needed as withmost strobe tuners. good weight. have to wipe offfinger prints , sweat, etc. to protect the finish.use it on a artist grand piano , seven footer, with excellent results. excellent investment ifserious about tuning. with good weight. have to polish it so skin oil and sweat do not ruin the finish. best thing is no need for
It seems that Planet Waves doesn't understand the idea of "silent" tuning. Even though I've run this from a tuner out jack with no output cable back into anything, there's still a little buzzing noise when the strobe wheel spins. Very strange, but otherwise it does the job.
This is an excellent tuner. The original battery that comes in these is not enough to power properly (Low Battery Ind). I replaced the battery and used it for the first time. It is very easy to use and extremely accurate. It is heavy enough so it will not fall off whatever it is sitting on. Mine does not have blue lights like the package indicates but has red LEDs'. I have had many tuners and this is the best I have owned. I did not want a Peterson because of the cost. This is easy to use and the display will work well on stage. It is compact. A well designed product. It also works well on my 5 string bass.
I have used old style strob tuners over the years and was tired of the mechanical problems and noise. I have found standard guitar tuners are not accurate enough to intonate an instrument. I just got this PW Strob tuner and am totally happy with it. It is rock solid and automatic/chromatic.I just intonated a Godin with trem and a hard tail Dano. The tuner is fast and very accurate-much faster than my old strobe tuner!
