OVERVIEW

Reduces disruptive floor, stage or drum riser resonance and noise from entering mics.

The Primacoustic KickStand heavy microphone boom-arm isolator combines a massive stabilizing base with an isolation pad that eliminate resonance entering the microphone from stages, drum risers or studio floors.

A common problem with bass guitar and kick drum is resonance on a live stage. This is generally caused by low frequencies coupling with the wood flooring which will combine with the instrument at certain frequencies and generate unwanted peaks and valleys.

Another problem is the physical vibration from the kick drum pedal and low-end from the PA system that causes the drums to rattle and transmit through the drum riser. Microphones that are near these sources are prone to picking up these unwanted sounds. The KickStand helps eliminate the problem by decoupling the microphone stand from the stage while introducing a stabilizing mass to hold the microphone firmly in place.

The Primacoustic KickStand isolator's thick, high-density open cell acoustic foam covers the entire bottom plate. An innovative laser cut steel platform is wedg' shaped to eliminate standing waves while offering sufficient height to allow a boom-arm to be articulated into the ideal position. The isolation eliminates the resonance while the added mass stabilizes the microphone capsule for greater clarity and improved transient response.

Although originally developed for bass drum, the KickStand is very effective on electric guitar, bass and other instruments that generate low frequencies or may be subject to floor resonance from entering the mic via the microphone stand.

Comments about Primacoustic KickStand Mic Boom Isolator:

TL;DR - It works as advertised.

    The longer review.
So the back story. At my church the drums are on a 9x10 riser about 18 inches off the stage floor. For years we have used a desk top mic stand, like everybody else and it seemed to work fine. The problem is that when some one would walk across the drum riser or tap their foot on the riser it would translate in to the mic. We tried to adjust gates to fix the issue, but if we set the gate to high, when the drummer played softer for more dynamic parts it would not open the gate. So we would have to set the gate lower which gave us problems, but we just dealt with it.

About 2 months ago we purchased 2 x JBL SRX282SP subs they replaced our old subs which were... well lame. Fantastic right?!?!?! Yes!!! Except it also amplified the existing problem we had, and created a new one. Now if we left the kick mic on for a short period of time it would slowly start to feedback through the subs, and they would start to swell. So this means we have to keep the subs just under the threshold of feed back, which is still better then our old subs, but not what we knew they could produce.

Enter the KickStand. The mic stand arrived and seemed to be great quality, much bigger and heavier then I thought it would be. I was skeptical, but optimistic. We installed the new stand and, wow it actually works. We are now able to push our subs higher. We can leave the kick mic on with no feedback issues even at a higher db level. And it actually cleaned up(sounds tighter) the sound of the kick drum, we had to re EQ the kick because we were originally EQ-ing with the riser vibration as port of the sound. We had to gain the kick up some. And It took away the walking across the riser noise and the foot tapping noise. If you stomp on the riser it will still translates through the mic, but that will also shake the whole drum kit. This works as advertised and I am happy we bought it. My ONLY complaint is that it is a base stand only(no boom).

Comments about Primacoustic KickStand Mic Boom Isolator:

Prior to purchase, looking at the photo of this stand on Musician's Friend website, I was unsure of the stability, contrary to the company's statement of rugged build quality. For that reason, I purchased an Atlas mini boom arm w/ counterweight just in case it had a tendency to tip over during use (it is holding an EV RE320 microphone which is quite heavy and bulky. Upon unboxing, first thing that was apparent to me was the company's understatement of just how sturdy this stand is....the cast metal base is very heavy and designed in such a way that the weight of a microphone is balanced by the design itself. Very clever. The isolating foam is thick and firm, and I can tell it will withstand years of use (although I would be careful not to expose the base to moisture). Overall quality exceeds my expectations. As for buying that Atlas boom arm with the counterweight, well, as they say, you can never be too prepared, but in actuality, it is totally unnecessary with this stand. Any boom arm here would be more than sufficient considering the sturdiness of the base. The foam does a perfect job of eliminating low end floor rumble from the microphone, leaving the sound pure and unaltered. I am very happy with this purchase, and will definitely be buying other Primacoustic sound isolating foam products.
