OVERVIEW

The Rush drummer's versatile signature sticks.

Pro-Mark Neil Peart Autograph Series Drumsticks are the oak 747 wood tip. Rush drummer Peart is one of the most influential drummers in contemporary music. And Neil continues to take the art form to even greater heights.

Neil's signature 747's are like a 5A, but longer, with a thicker taper and larger tip. These versatile sticks may be used in quiet applications or when more volume is required. They're heavier in weight than the hickory version.

I have had Neil Peart Promark sticks in the past. I have lot of sticks. I was recently playing with Vic Firth Thomas Lang signature sticks and the VF Buddy Rich sticks. I also play with Ahead Lars Ulrich sticks. There a bit too heavy but it helps me develop my wrist technique. I really enjoy Traditional grip but use match grip many times. Lately I pulled out some of my Snake n Arrow tour Promark Neil Peart sticks. I was really pleased with the way I have evolved in development because I was so pleased or stoked with the feel now of the Peart Promarks! Light enough to be a perfect weight on each instrument of my drum kit, ya know, how sometimes a heavier stick will make everything sound different right? and the oak is heavy enough so in my hand it's not too light and the way it rebounds and responds sound wise as well was perfect right now. So now I have a stack of them because they seem to be the perfect balance for my playing. And it doesn't make any difference what tour or time frame of Neil's sticks you play , they are the same stick with a different mark on them is all. Now I have a boat load of R40s. Same stick. I really like how they feel! Not too heavy and not too light. Off the subject here , I use a Yamaha Maple Custom Absolute with Tama hardware around it. I like the Speed Cobras. So my Yamaha is now a Tamaha. I also ordered a Tama custom order in Platinum sparkle for some smaller sizes than my Tamaha. But on sticks, A stick is just a stick, though I like the Oak as opposed to the American Hickory. This is why this stick works weight wise for it's size. Everyone will perhaps be a different weight class, strength level as well as style of play. Sometimes reviews on sticks might actually be useless. But right now this Peart stick is my main stick. For practice I use the Ahead sticks for development.

I was ordering the Neal Peart "Snakes and Arrows" drumsticks but only received the newer signature series. The picture didn't accurately show what I was getting.

Comments about PROMARK Neil Peart Autograph Series Drumsticks:

These sticks certainly aren't the cheapest on the block, but a classic example of you get what you pay for. I've always played 5A's, so they were right up my alley, and I especially like the extended length. They are also extremely durable... One pair I had lasted over 3 months before a little chipping on the tips occurred, and I'm a very heavy hitter. Even so, wood tips are king in my book. I grew tired long ago of the tips flying off of nylon tipped sticks, and the head damage that can cause before you realize it's happened. This is especially true with the heads on most electronic kits (I have both electronic and acoustic drum sets). Bottom line, best sticks I've ever used in my 45 years of playing.

    My favorite Oak Drumstick.
    Made to rock out.
Special taper makes for longer life.
    Great for hard hitting.
Professionally, for me, Oak is the way to go if you can afford it.
However, I do also use Maple & Hickory occasionally.

Very pleased with these sticks, I had them for a year and then they finally broke. I play at very least an hour a day and these are perfect for everyday use. I just bought 4 more pairs and should be good for a few more years at this rate.

Comments about PROMARK Neil Peart Autograph Series Drumsticks:

I've been using these sticks for several years. I use to play Billy Cobham model 808's until they became hard to find, but I really like these too. I've played 5b and 5b supers, but these sticks are balanced, not too heavy or light, just the right length for me, and have a great feel when playing. Some have said they're not good for soft or softer types of music, but I beg to differ, as it's all in how you use dynamics and the sticks. I haven't had any problem using them in quieter situations, but I also use a smaller pair of rods for some songs. As far as I'm concerned, these are great sticks made out of some of the hardest wood available. And as far as the tips chipping, every wood stick I've ever played has had chipping on the shoulder or tip, and going to a nylon tip is no guarantee you won't lose the tip when playing, as that's happened before. These sticks have lasted longer than any I've played, and because they're oak, they don't chip as easily. Try these for a change and you'll see and feel the difference.

Comments about PROMARK Neil Peart Autograph Series Drumsticks:

For the longest time I was going back and forth between 5As and 5Bs. These sizes both served me well but I never liked how short they felt to me, and 5Bs seem too thick and bulky in my hands. The Promark 747 is the perfect stick as far as I'm concerned. It's slightly thinner than a 5B but not near as thin as a 5A AND it's just a bit longer so you can get plenty of the butt end of the stick in your hand for that Freddy Gruber technique. I dig the way this stick is balanced too - seems to have a shorter taper which leaves more meat in the shoulder, giving it a hartier feel when it's time to lay into the groove and bring the volume up. My search is over. Get a handful of these and a couple pairs of 727s for lighter situations and you've got your basic stick needs covered for an kind of music. And talk about strong: These things refuse to crack or even splinter.

Comments about PROMARK Neil Peart Autograph Series Drumsticks:

The sticks are pretty nice, but way above the price point I pay for sticks I use to PLAY. I did use one pair of these for the heck of it, and though I still prefer Vic Firth 5A, these sticks do have a nice bounce and a solid dense feel that "cheapo" bulk sticks just can't give. They are great for rock or heavy funk, especially if you like and rim shots. Rim shots feel solid through these sticks. They are useless for light touch situations, like coffeehouse jazz or new age -- though they were great for a snare "buzz" (ala William Kennedy).ONE WARNING: The sticks you are ordering are NOT the Snakes and Arrows Tour series sticks that are currently pictured (I e-mailed them to change the picture.) They are the BLUE stripe autograph series sticks.

I was ordering the Neal Peart "Snakes and Arrows" drumsticks but only received the newer signature series. The picture didn't accurately show what I was getting.

Can't go wrong with a drumstick from one of the worlds best drummers ever! The Shira Kashi Oak is so smooth and feels amazing! Also, the extra 1/4 inch makes a HUGE difference in reach. The only let down I had was that the picture in the description was a pic of the "snakes and arrows" tour sticks, but ended up getting just the generic signature ones. But still great sticks!

These sticks are generally very durable. I have had probably over 20 pairs of sticks in total and only a few have broken easily, although recently I have been hitting much harder. So anyway, I love the length and thickness. It just feels great with those aspects. Long but not extreme, thick but not too fat. I wish the taper was just a bit longer, but not too much, you still get plenty of bounce. These sticks are heavy. With the oval tip and the overall weight, these make it easier to get your drums to sound loud and fat. These are great for rock and metal if you want sticks that aren't too thick (thick being 5B and 2B). I am not a gigging drummer, but if I were playing a small jazz club with combo, these sticks might be my last choice. They could work for big band, but the taper does have just a bit (really just a tad) too much of forward balance. They just aren't as comfortable as a standard jazz stick for playing bounces. Anyway, these sticks are awesome for playing metal. I love playing Meshuggah and Dillinger stuff and this helps me just get a nice fat sound with a good feel too.

Good sticks to say the least! They are lasting longer than I had thought! I play very hard and strike the cymbals near their edge which takes its toll on the sticks neck area. A little pricey, but worth every beat they take!!! I will buy these in the near future and will recommend them for sure. Tony
