First of all, let me start off by saying that this is the single most important thing to do to your snare in order for it to sound good, besides tuning. For years I overlooked the snare wires because I thought that any set of wires would work, after all, wires are wires right? Well after reading the reviews on the Puresound blasters wires, I decided to switch to those in hopes of getting a better sound out of my snare. The guy at the register suggested me getting the Custom series wires instead. I can honestly say that they made my snare sound the best it ever has! Go get it!
The clips on the snare wires are bent inward towards the resonant head in order to establish greater wire-to-head contact. This feature works flawlessly! The wires themselves are incredible, they sound so much better than the original pearl wires that came with my chad smith custom snare. They bring out the natural sound of the steel shell!!
Amazing quality. There is not one "cheap" part on this product!
For the money, its ok. It is pretty expensive, but considering the sound I have now out of my snare, I would definitely say its worth it!

Ever since the day I got these, I have not been able to get decent sound. All they did was buzz, and the second day I had them, one of the wires broke. For the money, I would expect these to be a lot better.

Comments about Puresound Custom Series 20 Strand Snare Wire:

I'm the first to be a skeptic when people say things like "sounds like a different drum" and things like that. But that's exactly what happened. The snare wires that got replaced were some cheap chrome garbage that came on my Crush kit. That made the wires a likely candidate in the case of snare buzz. And oh yeah. Fixed the buzz, and got some extra drum-tone unlocked as well. You'd just have to see for yourself. It seems to have opened the drum up a little bit.

Comments about Puresound Custom Series 20 Strand Snare Wire:

These snares have always delivered a great sound. The wires are not covered in chrome paint so you get more of a vintage, darker sound with the bare wire exposed, similar to the snares that vintage drums came with. At first you will notice a richer, darker sound than you may be used to, but with time, you begin to hear the sound of your drum in addition to the "snap." If you want to brighten up the sound, simply choose a version with more snares on it. For example, if you are used to a 16 strand, don't be afraid to purchase the 20 strand version of this brand. Another great plus is that the snares are welded slightly below the frame ends to compensate for the space that the included attachment strings take up. This allows the snares to lay firmly from end to end resulting in less after-buzz. This design fits perfectly on newer or custom drums, which may not have deep snare beds. If you are using these snares on older drums or any drum with deep snare beds built into the shell, simply use thicker attachment strings, such the tight woven cord used on window blinds. These snares are perfect for studio or live performance and can bring even the fussiest snare drums back to life. I have never broken a single strand of these wires in 20 years of touring and recording. If you are breaking these things, then be careful not to over-tighten, or watch an experienced drummer attach and tension them at your local music store or from an instructional video.

Comments about Puresound Custom Series 20 Strand Snare Wire:

These are good wires, comparable to other wires of the same quality and in the same price range. The coils in snare wires wear out after a while. Younger (and poorer) drummers often just keep trying to stretch them, but if your snares no longer engage or get horrific buzz no matter how much you adjust the strainer, they probably need to be replaced. The cost of snares every few years is probably not going to break anyone's bank.

Comments about Puresound Custom Series 20 Strand Snare Wire:

We have been looking for a way to get a good sound out of my old pearl export snare. These wires are built solid enough to handle the tension required to get the tight, crisp, pop sound that we have been looking for. It also seems like you get less rattle from the bass and guitars from the bottom of the drum after upgrading to these wires.

Comments about Puresound Custom Series 20 Strand Snare Wire:

These are very sensitive, crisp, full, and bright sounding snares. You can definitely hear the quality over cheaper strands, if you can't you've got bad ears. With every turn of the tensioner, while in the "usable range", you can get various desirable tones out of these. Spend the bucks on your snare, it is the nucleus of your kit. Within 5 seconds of hearing a drummers snare, you can always tell if he's serious about drum sound or not. There's alot of tone deaf drummers out there, don't be one of them.

Great snare wire, but the cables are junk.

Comments about Puresound Custom Series 20 Strand Snare Wire:

I bought this after reading multiple reviews and recommendations from other drummers. With a little extra cash in hand, I bought it, since I had not replaced the stock snare wires on my 5.5"x14" classic Ludwig snare (dated 1/3/66). After some frustrations as to why the snares weren't making contact with the snare head, I saw that the metal cables that come with the snare establish a spacing between the snare wires and the drum head, physically lifting the snares off the drum. I quickly fixed this problem by returning to the mylar straps that come with the drum. After the quick fix, my snare sounds perfect. I highly recommend buying this product, but beware of the cables that come with it.

Make almost any drum sound good

Comments about Puresound Custom Series 20 Strand Snare Wire:

I recently restored an older generic steel snare. The original snare wires were awful. I was sick of getting cheaper wires that just end up losing wires after a few weeks, so I invested in some Puresound wires. Not only are they strong, but they made a cheap drum sound great. I noticed a difference in sound immediately. They are definitely worth the price.
