I have used these cables for about six months now. At first they did fail after a little use. I then unscrewed the ends and found that one of the wires had pulled free from the end connection. This was clearly because the strain relief prongs on that end had not been wrapped properly around the insulating cable. As a result, any stress on the cable transferred directly to the electrical connection instead of to the strain relief prongs. After re-soldering the wires I pushed the rubber insulation better into position so that the strain relief prongs could do their job, and then squeezed the prongs secuely onto the rubber cable. I have since used them many times with no problem. Nor do I have any issue with the sound of my instrument while using them. If you buy these cables save yourself an untimely headache and check the connections and strain relief right away. It would appear to me that the problems people have had with these cables failing might well be a matter of quality control rather than quality itself.

Fine for the price

By John Currie

from Boston

Comments about Rapco Horizon Standard Guitar Cable:

My dad used to tell a funny story about gold-plated bolts on a rich man's toilet, but I forget how it goes. The point is, very expensive cables tested in a laboratory setting may be measurably better at noise rejection than inexpensive ones, but consider where and under what circumstances you're using them when evaluating those results. If I was setting up to play for a presidential inauguration or some other historic event, I might err on the side of caution and use really nice cables, but for stage and home studio use the money save will buy a lot of beer.
These cables have it all: connectors and some insulated conductor. If that seems like a silly thing to say, consider what it is: it's a patch cable; It needs to plug into some things and carry some electricity. And it needs to reject noise along the way, too. These cables do all that, and more.
The only bad thing is that the shells loosened up in shipping, so I had to crank them all back down when I unpacked them. I put a drop of thread locker on each one while I was at it, so it won't happen again. No measurable difference in noise rejection or resultant audio quality from other more expensive cables in my kit.
If a drop of Loctite is the value swap that makes these cables 1/3 the price of That Other Brand, I'm happy to pay it.

Best Cable I Have Used

By Anonymous

from Undisclosed

Comments about Rapco Horizon Standard Guitar Cable:

These are by far the best cables I have ever used. I have several of these cables and use them daily for live shows and practice. I use them for everything from guitars, bass, tuners, patches to live sound. The ends are sturdy and they are noiseless. I had one break at the end but they have a lifetime warranty so it was replaced at no cost. Great cable for the price and highly recommended.

Great Cable

By Paul

Comments about Rapco Horizon Standard Guitar Cable:

I've used many brands of cables through the years, cheap and expensive, and the fact is ALL CABLES EVENTUALLY FAIL. This cable you don't have to throw away when it fails, you can open the ends and easily repair the failure yourself. These also have a lifetime warranty and you can mail them to the company for free repair or swap it out for a new one at the store it was purchased from. These cables are very reasonably priced, and Rapco Horizon is a very friendly company if you ever need to call them.

Comments about Rapco Horizon Standard Guitar Cable:

Nice cable. Good overall outer-jacket diameter. The cable is US-made with assembly south of the border. At least here's one item that isn't made overseas. Could this be classified as a LEED product? I think you'd use less gas shipping the assembled product from Mexico than China. LEED wasn't the reason for my purchase of this cable, but maybe every little bit helps. I bought it because of the competitive pricing; no cable noise; the cable diameter and AWG wire gauge isn't small like some overseas junk I've ended up throwing out; the company selling them is in Missouri; and it so far is a great cable. And all seriousness aside, it's fun to take the end of a guitar cord and while it's plugged into your amp and with your amp on/volume on, touch the open end of the plug on your tongue while you scream into the microphone. Well, it seemed like fun when I used to do it. It works best w/a boost on as it exaggerates the buzzing noise while you are screaming. And, it gets some odd looks from the crowd. However, I would guess a disclaimer is in order, to say, "don't try this at home kids..."

Comments about Rapco Horizon Standard Guitar Cable:

Needed longer cables for my keyboard to reach my amp/mixer in a new set up in my home. These cables filled the bill. Since my set up is fairly static, I don't expect that there will be any wear issues as there is never any stress on the ends or pulling of the cables.

Comments about Rapco Horizon Standard Guitar Cable:

I bought this cord as a replacement for a guitar cord I thought had been stolen, sight unseen, never tried it before. Bought it because it was easy on the wallet. I plugged in my humbucker equipped Str*t clone and was amazed at the clarity of tone and how strong my guitar sounded. Other cables sucked the life out of my tone, this one brought it back from the dead. (I bought the15 foot model...)

Comments about Rapco Horizon Standard Guitar Cable:

Cable was backordered and arrived after about a month. Worth the wait! Right away I could tell this was a fine cable - having paid 4-5 total for the 15' option! I used this cable in sporadic gigs and practice (almost every day) from this past April until August, when I stepped on it while I was plugged in. A quick re-solder, and it was good as new. It lasted another 3 months of regular, but not stressful use until this past week (Nov 5) when more regular gigging took it's toll and broke my solder job. I bought a Hosa 10 ft to replace it before a gig, and was unimpressed by how poorly the Hosa was grounded and caused gnarly noise when plugged into an amp. The Rapco will do the job for the working musician, but I'd say make it a secondary and invest in something a little more professional for a primary cable.

This will be about the fourth Rapco cable i've ordered from Musicians Friend over the years. I dont use them when playing a gig, I use the expensive ones for that. But when I'm doing anything else like practicing or showing off, I use my trusted Rapco cables. If taken care of, they will last you a couple years. It's a cheap cable. When I say that, I dont mean cheap quality I mean cheap price. These cables are meant for a budget wise person and they due perfect for casual use. They are made in the USA and that is a plus as well.
