So I've been playing drums for about 8 years now, on and off recently since I've been in college. I have tried almost every head on the market and I just really have gotten the best sound out of my toms with these Remos. I started playing on a Tama Stagestar kit when I was 10 or 11, made of poplar wood, not great sounding but I was just starting out. I was a huge RUSH fan and Neil was my main influence, he used DW drums, Sabian cymbals and Remo drumheads... Needless to say I couldn't afford DW drums nor was I experienced enough to really warrant that kind of investment of money into a kit. However, I could afford Sabian cymbals and Remo heads; I bought myself some Remo Clear Ambassadors and with the poplar wood they sounded, well, not much different than the stock heads. They, like the stock heads, produced an overtone that wasn't easy on the ears. I then decided to get something that would kill those overtones and so I bought Aquarian Performance II heads, not only did they have a ring built in to dampen overtones but they were two ply which really made them last (as a kid I played hard and my drums were really angled towards my and thus the impact of the sticks kind of cut into the heads and dented them). After buying more add on drums and roto toms and everything I could so that I could be as much like Neil as possible I figured that it was time to upgrade my kit. It got to the point where in my attempt to kill overtones I just ended up having drums that sounded like you were hitting a pillow; poplar just doesn't resonate very well at all. So after about 4 years I bought a Gretsch Catalina Ash Series kit. The stock heads were clear single-ply Gretsch heads. I threw some Aquarian Studio rings on them, as they had a little overtone and they sung beautifully; they were crisp and bright and had very good resonance (ash wood resonates at very high frequencies, higher than maple; not sure about birch) and just sounded an entire league above my starter Tama kit. I put Remo Clear Ambassadors on that kit and never changed them for the three years I played that kit (they never broke on me either). Just last year I bought a Mapex Orion Classic Series kit, this was and still is my top of the line kit that I record with and play most. I wanted to try something different and so I equipped it with Evans G2 coated (I always like the look of coated heads and wanted to see what 2 ply would sound like on maple as opposed to Ash and Poplar). The kit did sound good, I thought though, for how much I paid, that it should sound better. Last time I was home I decided to swap the Remo Clear Ambassadors from my Gretsch with the Evans G2 Coated on my Mapex. OH-MY-GOODNESS!!! The Mapex set just escalated to a whole new level of sound!!!! It was the best sounding kit I've ever heard! The drums were boomy and had such presence, they were warm and crisp and bright at the same time and they resonated and just sounded absolutely fantastic!!! Still, as with every kit I've ever played there is always going to be a little overtone; I decided that I didn't want to risk killing the bright full resonance of the drums with a ring so I got some moon-gels and threw them on the drums and they let the drums just sing the sweetest tone ever! (Needless to say the G2 coated didn't sound so good on the Grestch) ... here's the kicker, I played for about two weeks when my 12" Remo head cracked, I was bummed but remembered that I had played those heads for about 4 years by the time it cracked. I went to the store to by brand new heads for all the drums on my Mapex kit but they didn't have all the diameters I needed so I bought Evans G1 hoping to get a similar sound. Don't get me wrong, they sound good, but they're ridiculously difficult to tune and they don't resonate as long and aren't as bright, they're just a step below the Remo Ambassadors. When I get the chance you can bet I'll be putting the Remo clear ambassadors back on my Mapex set because, after 8 years, they're just the best sounding heads I've played.

Comments about Remo Clear Ambassador Head:

Experienced drummers know that Remo set the standard for all heads with the Ambassador. Sure, there are many quality heads on the market with may specialized forms. for my money, this is the most versatile and durable.

I use coated on batter side and clear for resonant side. I play a combination of jazz, rock, blues and broadly defined Americana. Need less resonance? Apply a little tape moongel, or studio rings. Otherwise, the tuning range is incredible and beautiful. Not only is it worth the money, it's a downright bargain!

Comments about Remo Clear Ambassador Head:

Not all drummers are going to agree on the same equipment to use. If you know drums you want to use Ambassadors on bottom. It's that simple. I have a Tama kit with 8,10,12,13,16 toms-14 snare and 22 bass. I use clear Amabassadors on the bottoms (with a hazy on snare) and Powerstroke 3 clear on Batters(coated on snare) with a Powerstroke 3 Pro coated on Bass with Clear Bass Reso. My drums sound great no matter what venue. They sound very open and have plenty of room to breath in the sound mix. Remo makes a great head no matter what you are looking for. If you are having problems with the right head set up, just try Ambassadors. I have never broken a Ambassador head when used on the Top and I have played heavy metal and rock for over 20 yrs. If you are breaking them you need a lesson in stick control and grip.

Comments about Remo Clear Ambassador Head:

these and evans g1s- single ply 10mil heads- are all i need. batter and reso. sound men and engineers grin when they here my drums. "what's your secret?" they ask. the secret is i have no secret. and no gel, tape, peanuts, you name it. single ply heads top and bottom, properly tuned on good drums. lively, tons of sustain, pure tone, durability, everything a drummer could ask for. some drummers like their drums to sound like tupperware- i don't. if you want those things to sing, clear ambassadors or evans g1s are the ticket. i've tried almost every head on the planet. these are what i use. some drums will like diplomats on the reso side. i love these things.
          yup, it's a head alright.
very durable. if i stab it, i could put a hole in it. i've never broken one. yes, i play loud (when the need arises). real loud. don't stab your heads, and they don't break.
          very reasonably priced. very durable.

Comments about Remo Clear Ambassador Head:

I have been drumming for 35 years, and honestly have gone full cirlce in drum heads... having sworn by the closed "thump" sound with Evans hydros and mufflers to Pin Stripes, Aquarian P2 and R2, and Evans G2. I purchased a new Masters kit last year and they came equipped with clear Ambassadors. I had every intent to change them out, but fell in love them. After playing 2 plys on the toms all these years I found the reaction on the single ply amazing, and the openness of the drums hypnotized me... I went from sound rings to moon gels on them to ripping them off and just letting the toms sing. On the larger toms (my 14 and 16) I decided to go with Clear Emperors which is perfect. The emperors are deeper and just fit the range of the lwoer toms better than the Ambassadors. However, on my 8,10 and 12 I have never been so happy with how crisp and bright the toms sound. I played some 2 plys on my other kit and couldnt believe how stiff they feel after growing into the 1 ply. No going back :-)BTW my Ambassadors lasted 12 months before I finally changed them out for new ones...My next step is compare G1's to the Ambassador, but this run, Ambassadors get 5 stars.

I use these on all of my toms and snare for a resonant head. They work great and really opened up the tone on my toms. If you still have the cheap factory resonant heads on your kit and you want to upgrade, these are what you want. They will make your drums sound 10 times better. I use them with clear emperors and I get a nice fat tone out of my toms. Have not tried them as batter heads, but I don't think many people use them for that purpose.

this didnt last at all! but put it on the other side where you dont hit and trust me it will sound amazing! I put these on the bottom side with pinstrips on the batter side and WOW! it sounds just like a studio drum set even though I have a cheap drum set. It sounds like a tama now!

Comments about Remo Clear Ambassador Head:

I've tried them all and always come back to Ambassadors. This is the best resonator-side head you can find, and the best price at that. I also like it for a batter side for more contemporary sounds, although I sometimes use coated Ambassadors in classic rock or jazz settings. If you actually know how to tune drums the possbilities for these heads are limitless...true, you might get a better punch at the low end with two-ply eahds such as Emperors without modification, but that's why we have so many diffeent tools for modifying heads-- Ring-Os, muffling devices, etc. If you want a head that is versatile, resonant, and capable of accomodating temporary modifications depending on the setting, this is it. Other heads are for very specialized uses, in my opinion. Since the inception of synthetic drumheads, Ambassords have set the standard.

Comments about Remo Clear Ambassador Head:

The Remo Weather King Clear Ambassador is probably the most used and under-rated drumhead in the world. It's singly-ply, medium thin membrane definitely does not suit it for general purpose batter head exposure. It is best served as a resonant head, on toms, and my guess is (and experience shows) that probably 99% of drummers use it that way. It's basically a staple in the industry. If you need an easy to tune, inexpensive, and general-purpose resonant drum head for your kit... this is the one to get. Save your $$ for the batter side and buy your favorite "boutique" heads as usual. Though if your strapped for cash or can't figure out which of the myriad specialty drum heads to buy, the Remo Clear Emperor makes a perfect batter-side counterpart to the Ambassador on the bottom. Results not guaranteed because tuning styles may vary... but these are not temperamental heads at all. Cheap, easy, and effective. You can't go wrong.

I like these on my repinique ( repique; Brazilian; like a two-headed timbal). I put the same head on both the top and bottom, and crank it way up for a nice ringing tone. They give a good balance between sound quality and durability. The top head usually starts pulling out from the side before they break, so I get some warning of when to change it, and can avoid having it break during a gig. They stretch a little, so I usually end up adding a quarter turn or so periodically. They get indentations from the stick hits, and I've seen folks take them out by holding a lighter close the head, but I usually just keep cranking them up and the indentations mostly flatten out.
