OVERVIEW

The standard for great snare sound!

Since 1968, the Controlled Sound drumheads have been relied upon by countless professional drummers. This single-play snare head is Ambassador-weight. It features a dual-zoned head with a 5mm center dot which combines the best of medium and heavy drumheads. Around the edge of the drumhead, a resonant, sensitive, medium-range tone can be achieved. In the center, the laminated dot eliminates excessive overtones for a focused, deep tone. Designed to keep up with heavy hitters, the centered, controlled sound from this Controlled Sound Snare Head is wonderfully balanced.

Been using Remo heads my entire life and switched to controlled sound 2 years ago from my traditional coated ambassador. It gives so much punch and depth but can still play it dynamically for lighter material. Sounded amazing in the studio and just as good in live situations. Don't think I'll ever use another head for my snare but this one!

I LOVE the sound that this head makes when I tune it right (which took me roughly half an hour to do). The only thing I do not like about it is that the head is just not durable at all. I have had this head for maybe a week or two as of writing this, and the coated layer is already starting to peel off. I made a switch from the Evans HD Genera Dry head which I liked, but wanted to stick with Remo. I bought this head with a gift certificate, though, so no worries money wise. As much as I adore the sound that this head projects (and would continue to buy this head if it would stay together), I am just going to have to stick with the Evans HD Genera Dry for the durability. I usually use Remo for ALL of my toms and snare, but this time, it is going to have to be Evans.

Superb, beats Evans hands down

Comments about Remo Controlled Sound Reverse Dot Coated Snare Head:

I recently bought this head when my Evans Genera HD Dry snare head started to wear through. I thought it was my snare which was too quiet, as it doesn't match the sound of the rest of my kit, but I now know it was the head. This head has made my snare much louder and it gives a nice, crisp sound. It took a while to tune it to get the best sound, and a few songs to break it in, but once I did I was very impressed. If it's a comparison between this and the Evans skin, this wins hands down. It's slightly cheaper, louder, more versatile and most importantly it sounds better. Highly recommended for any drummer.

Comments about Remo Controlled Sound Reverse Dot Coated Snare Head:

way good. if you have a chance to get one do it and do it soon
the damping pad they have on it doesn't do that much at all but if you slap a dampining ring on it it sounds perfect
this thing is amazing. it has that classic punk rock metal bang that can be heard anywhere
this is amazing value, it turned my second hand $20 snaredrum into something that i would feel good about letting others hear

GREAT HEAD - VERY PRACTICAL

Comments about Remo Controlled Sound Reverse Dot Coated Snare Head:

The REMO Control Dot is a well engineered head, designed to have a killer 'fat' spot within the 'dot' area. At the edge of the dot the head produces a less-fat, and cleaner/brighter sound. As you get closer to the edge you get a timbale-like sound, making this a versatile head if you're likely to play (let's say) rock, latin, and jazz at the same gig. The head also produces a great rim-click, and has plenty of volume overall. The head really has, to be tuned well to get any kind of satisfying sound, otherwise it's a bit ring-y. Tune the bottom (of your snare) head to 'A' while the batter head is removed from the drum. Make sure you get a clean 'A' at each lug-point (worth the effort), then put on the batter head, tuning correctly to a 'C', or higher if you want. Mess around with the snare tension, and before you know it, your snare will sound better than ever. This is not a conventional head, and it does take getting used to the different sounds, but a sweeter rim-shot you've never heard ... my guitar players even noticed. Remember, the key is in the tuning ... snare side, than batter. Have fun, it's a great head!

Go To Snare Drum Head

Comments about Remo Controlled Sound Reverse Dot Coated Snare Head:

This has become my go to rock snare drum head. I have used it on Brady, Noble and Cooly, Sleishman, Yamaha Maple, Ludwig Chrome and everything in between. It has great feel with just the right amount of resonance. I still use a moon gel when mic'd up. It has a lot of crack and body. It seems to bring out the tone of the shell material. Highly recommended.

Comments about Remo Controlled Sound Reverse Dot Coated Snare Head:

This snare head is a great choice for a drummer that hits in the center of the head as opposed to others that choose different areas of the drum for other snare sounds. The dot holds up well. Very durable and long lasting. Since beginning to use reinforced snare heads a few years ago, I have been able to save money with less frequent replacement.

Comments about Remo Controlled Sound Reverse Dot Coated Snare Head:

To me, this is the perfect snare drum head. The reverse dot dries out the center of the drum without choking it, giving me the exact sound that I want. The difference between the outer area and the center dot area makes it easy to have two different areas to play on for one song, a darker, "buzzier" area around the outside and a crisp dry area in the center.

I've tried other snare heads (I also like the Evans HD Dry) but I keep coming back to the Coated CS Reverse Dot.

Comments about Remo Controlled Sound Reverse Dot Coated Snare Head:

I have two words for the black dot snare head...CHARLIE WATTS...it's what he uses...and for years now so have I...for good reason. For best results, and that choppin wood "pop" sound... tighten way up on the clear bottom head. And the tune into your sound with the black dot. I use this head on my 1958 brass-lined Ludwig Supraphonic and also on my 10 inch deep x 14 Gretsch maple snare with great results!

Comments about Remo Controlled Sound Reverse Dot Coated Snare Head:

I've tried many different snare heads and for one reason or another I always end up back with the controlled sound. I play hard rock and like a nice crack out of my snare. This head works well and last a good amount of time. Unlike the reviewer whos only able to say "these suck" I think these are great heads if they accent the sound you looking for. There is no such thing as a bad drum head, it's all personal preference.

This head is great, I put it on my piccolo snare and cranked it up all the way and it sounds amazing. It has almost no ring to it, it sounds awesome. Its super sturdy, it holds up to the heaviest hitters. I highly recommend this for someone who doesn't want any ring on their snare.

I bought this for my 13" piccolo snare. I put on an Ambassador on the snare side. What a Great sound!!! I first tried the stock heads on my snare to get a comparison. I was floored by how much crispier and louder this head performed. Been beating on it for about 2 months, and it is holding up extremely well! This head is my choice from now on, and will order it for my 14" snare, too!

Comments about Remo Controlled Sound Reverse Dot Coated Snare Head:

This head is incredible bad; it's called controlled sound, yet it rings forever and has extremely annoying overtones no matter how tight or loose I tuned it. Despite the overtone, the head sounds very bad-sounds crappier than the stock heads I had for 3 months. Overall a very bad buy and first impressions of remo heads. I'm going to pick up an ambassador coated soon (since its the industry standard for recording) and maybe it'll make me change my mind about remo heads. Im sure remo has some great heads, this one is just not one of them.

            CS is the Best!

            By Mothership Connexion

            from B-Town, IN

Comments about Remo Controlled Sound Reverse Dot Coated Snare Head:

To be honest, I thought for a long time that CS heads were just another one of those marketing gimmicks designed to reach into your wallet. Consider my foot removed from my mouth! This head sounds absolutely amazing on my 13-inch Yamaha Musashi! Coated Ambassadors just weren't doing enough to eliminate the extraneous high-frequency overtones that I get from that drum, so I switched to a CS, and the difference was immediately apparent. Those harsh overtones? GONE! The black dot really does make all the difference; in addition to making the head more durable, it gives the drum that thick, wonderful "CRACK!" sound when struck in the center. Bottom line: If you want your snare drum to sound better, get this head. You won't be disappointed. (These heads also sound killer on toms!)
