OVERVIEW

Realize the bass drum sound you've always craved.

The Powersonic bass drumheads give the drummer controlled mid-range and low end for the most powerful bass drum sound that's It, right out of the box.

The Powersonic bass drumheads are constructed of 2-ply 7-mil Mylar with two specifically placed internal subsonic dampening rings with External Snap-on Dampening System (ESDS) technology. The two mounted 3/4" internal dampening rings enhance low end without affixing trays or hard-backed dampening materials to the drumhead.

The unique patent pending ESDS system employs snaps mounted directly to the drumhead to eliminate the possibility of vibration. This allows you to easily customize your muffling, feel, and sustain for different playing situations by "snapping" the strategically placed weighted pillow to the drumhead. Also included is the Falam Slam for added attack and durability.

  • Powersonic Bass, Clear, with Snap-on dampening system

It's November 1st 2009. One year has passed since I put this head on the kit at church and it's not necessary to replace it yet. We lead very contemporary worship services and really rock it out. The kit in reference sees roughly 3 services a week plus rehearsals and really takes a beating. This head has that deep, "punch you in your chest" sound that I was looking for. I use an Audix D6 and tune it so it's almost as loose as it can be. I get a bit of tone from the resonant head but keep that one just about as loose as well. I use the beater patch and a hard beater to get that "click" definition and through the subs and in-ear monitors, WOW! No unwanted overtones. Just sweet, deep professional PUNCH. It really changed the way I play. There is so much more confidence exerted when you know your kick is just knockin' 'em flat out there. It's the best sound I have pulled out of any kick drum in 28 years of playing, touring and recording. And it was easy! I'm here today to research new tom and snare heads for the kit because it's time. But the kick... I'm not touching it. I thought a review may be helpful to someone. I really doubt anyone with a descent kit would regret trying this head out. Thumbs up from Scottie!

I placed this head on a DW 22x20 maple drum with a ported EQ3 and was not that impressed. Way overdampened for my taste. In a closed room, not bad but not great. For a live show not a chance. I ended up removing the button piece and also removing the internal dampening ring and now it is OK on my studio kit that is only used for recording. I would choose something else if you are looking for a dampned head, like an EMAD. My new favorite is an Evans clear EQ3 for a batter and an Evans Eq1 frosted for the front. Place a 4inch port with minor dampening on the batter head and you will be in heaven. My close friend swears by the Emad single ply and the "Retro screen" for the RES if you like the dampened style. I sure someone will say I am sooo wrong but if you are like me and take these reviews to heart, give it a shot and good luck.

Comments about Remo Powersonic Clear Bass Drumhead:

I've had this head for about 8 months and I have no problems with it. If you haven't got good foot control, try using the large heavy Aquarian patch instead of the small Remo to help dampen the center. Or tape it up. I also use the Kick Port tuned high when I want a PS3 or jazz sound. You got to know how to tune too. This is more of a pro head than for a beginner.

Comments about Remo Powersonic Clear Bass Drumhead:

Wow, this thing is DEEP! I had just got this head in right before my our band did a performance, and after a mere 2-3 minutes of tuning I had already found the sound I wanted. Throw that old pillow in the dumpster, this thing doesn't need any additional dampening! It has just enough reso and a big, deep thump that echoed through the auditorium. Take the snap-on pad off, get some more resonance, still don't need a pillow. But no fear, this thing is far from dead! Great buy, completely satisfied with it. def. recommend.

Experimenting with kick heads is expensive. This is another one for the pile. I bought it based on how it sounded on someone's kit, but but my 20" Mapex Orion sound and feel bad. Going back to clear ambassador and a pillow. The Powersonic lacked definition, and had a hard feel.

After using the original remo head w/impact pad on my club kit for 6 years, tried the aquarian super kick II. I broke the first layer head in 2 months, with an impact pad and still used a pillow in the drum. I bought the remo powersonic, wow! I do use the snap on pillow, but it's the first time in years I haven't used a pillow in the drum. Head sounds great has big thump.

Comments about Remo Powersonic Clear Bass Drumhead:

I was not sure what this head would sound like. When it came, it was easy to tune and it really sounded excellent! All the dampening things on this head really do work great and put it through a P.A., and the head just explodes! I love the way it sounds live. If I had to say anything bad about this head at all, it would be about the snap on patch. If I get aggressive using the double kick, the patch comes unsnapped and sometimes gets caught up un my double pedal. It has not happened yet, where it caused any serious issues during a performance, but it has the potantial unless I watch it very closely. It is a good value though, and it really does sound GREAT!!!

Comments about Remo Powersonic Clear Bass Drumhead:

This is the best bass drum head ever. I used to pack my bass drum with blankets, with this you dont even need anything inside your drum. I use it with one blanket inside and it sounds perfect. The only slight downside to it though is that it is a little quiet, but if you play a live show and it has a mic on it, it sounds amazing. Buy this, its totaly worth the money.

Comments about Remo Powersonic Clear Bass Drumhead:

This drumhead is amazing! I just got it the other day, and it blows my mind! It was very easy to tune, lets out this HUGE subwoofer thump when struck, and, due to the foam rings on one side and the snap-on muffler on the other, you don't need any other muffling at all! I used to have to put a towel in my bass drum to get it to sound decent, but not anymore! Buy this drumhead right now! You won't regret it.

The Most Versatile Kick Head You'll Ever Find

        See all my reviews

Comments about Remo Powersonic Clear Bass Drumhead:

I had read up on this head and decided to give it a try. I have to say that I'm very pleased with its performance. True, it's the most expensive head of its kind that you'll find, but it's also the best kick drum head I've ever played (and I've tried EMAD's, Powerstroke 3's, and Superkicks). I don't get what the other guys are talking when they say it's not loud enough. My bassist, who plays a Warwick thumb bass cranked through a 2X18 speaker cabinet, can hear me no problems, not mention my guitarist who plays through a Marshall half-stack. This thing really helps to project the sound. People just forget that because it's a thicker head (the thickest on the market that I know of), it needs to be tuned up to lower-mid range rather than really loose, like most rock drummers like to do with kick drums. I've got this head on a 22x20 ddrum dominion bass drum, and it sounds incredible, and that's without any internal muffling whatsoever! With the snap-on-able muffling pad, I get a tight, yet deep pocket sound that clicks very nicely with a hard beater and punches with a felt one. Without the snap-on padding, the sound is BIG and BOOMY, almost like Bonham's kick drum, giving me a nice sound spectrum to work with. Did I mention this head is PERFECT for playing mic'ed up? The only real area where the head is slightly, and I mean slightly, defficient is its sensativity (but you weren't honestly expecting that out of a two ply head anyway right?). Not the best head for jazz then, but if you want a solid, tough-as-nails head with incredible tone and versatility, this is it.

this is a great head. i use this head on a 20x20 ddrum dominion maple kit. i use a aquarian regulator head with a port. togather my bass sounds amazing. me personally i use the pillow that clips to the bottom of the head. i tuned it just tight enough to get rid of the wrinkles. it sounds great and adds a nice muted sound with a lot of punch. if you want to end your search for a great bass head by this one.

Comments about Remo Powersonic Clear Bass Drumhead:

I bought this kick with my gretsch catalina maple kit and i loved it. The only thing i didnt to much care for was the falam slam. Remo falam slams are real thick and it takes a little punch out of it so i used the aquarian patches. I have to order another one because i lost the snap on pad at a shed but anyway, great head!

This is by far the best bass drumhead in the market. I've used it on 4 different kits, Pearl Export, Tama Starclassic Bubinga, Dw Exotic, Pearl Reference and it made each kit sound amazing. If you tune it CORRECTLY it provides both low end and attack to the bass drum.

Comments about Remo Powersonic Clear Bass Drumhead:

This head has an excellent tone, much different than the PS3 or 4, dare I say more 'modern' sounding. This head has more low-end and less midrange. The attack is well-balanced if you tune it right. When I first got this head, I was extremely disappointed with the tone and feel. I tuned both it and the reso up medium-tight to the same pitch. Now, I get a subwoofer-like low-end sound with the perfect amount of sustain. If you find this head to be slightly boomy, just throw a rolled up beach towel against the resonant, it controls the low end. This head is also very durable, I've had it for 6 months without a sign of wear using the included kick patch.

Comments about Remo Powersonic Clear Bass Drumhead:

I have tried an Evans EMAD, and found that the outer plastic ring always comes off at some point. The Powersonic head is much more durable, with the only issue being that you have to snap the ESDS pad back on to the head once in a while after playing. The sound is incredible, much larger punch and attack than the EMAD, but also has a great low end. Buy this head if you want great attack and durability!

This bass drum head is the best I've ever played! It gave me the EXACT sound I was looking for with using my Aquarian Regulator Reso Head. I always use the ESDS because it makes it have a firmer feel to the head so it enables my beater to hit and not rattle around. BUY THIS HEAD!

get an emad or a superkick 2

        By Rudy Mikeska

        from Austin, TX

Comments about Remo Powersonic Clear Bass Drumhead:

I've been playing remo heads my entire life and I've been waiting for remo to come out with a dampened bass head...but unfortunately this head doesn't live up to the rest of remo's products. Although this is a high quality head that some drummers will enjoy, in my opinion it is way over dampened and ultimately gives you a flat sound...the evans emad or aquarian superkick 2 will give you a much better dampened sound without sounding flat.

        By Sterling Dale

        from Ontario, Canada

Comments about Remo Powersonic Clear Bass Drumhead:

I don't know why everybody is thinking this is the best thing since sliced bread. Let me start with what bothers me the most, the floor mat that you are supposed to attach to the bottom to the domes that are another obstruction to the head. Then the 2 strips of foam that are on the inside of the head that you cannot remove if you want. I don't know how these made it to the market. It sounded like I was beating on a soaking wet cardboard box. I even took the ridiculous clip on piece off and they still sound too dampened. Everybody that likes these must have really bad kits for these to sound good. I put these on my new practice set of double bass Pearl Visions, I thought it was the lower quality set because I have always played on pro series sets ( my Pearl Masters and Tama artstars). I put on some Evans emad 2's and problem solved. They still aren't a pro sound but has some life to them. I bought the heads out of curiosity and the good reviews at the time. The emads are by far a better head and you have more flexibility with your sound. Don't make the same mistake I did.

This thing rocks! It made my entry level bass have a great thumping sound with a nice attack. Tunning it was very simple and it gives you a great sound without any other muffling. The thing that was bad is I put the falam patch on in the wrong spot but that was my own fault.
