If you want a sensitive snare head, with a nice, powerful punch to it, without alot of ringing overtone, I strongly recommend trying this head. It has both the dampening outer ring and the power dot, for controlling the sound. I tried it on my Ludwig Black Beauty, which is a brass snare, known for alot of ringing. This head controls that aspect very well, however, it does not rob the drum of any of its goodness. I get a warm, deep, and powerful crack, with just enough ringing, and plenty of sensitivity. The coating in the center does wear off pretty quickly, but the sound remains great. Definitely a pro-level head, with a strong and definitive characteristic.

The head sounded great tuned up on my snare (early 70's Pearl Jupiter COB 6.5x14). The tone was good and needed very little in the way of muffling or tone control. I was very happy up until the point that I set up for my show the next night. Literally two minutes of rimshot during sound check and the coating flaked off under the butt end of the stick. Very disappointing to say the least. I played all night without any of the coating coming off the center of the head, but still.....man, it shouldn't do that. Not sure what to tell ya'll.....buyer beware I guess. I'm not terribly impressed with Remo's QC on this unit....maybe I just got a bad one. Either way, its not worth sending back or anything like that. I'll just use it up and go another way next time.

Comments about Remo Powerstroke 3 Coated with Dot Batter:

I've seen the youtube videos. I don't know how Gear Gurus got their snare to sound like they did with this head. I guarantee you it won't sound like that in real life. I have a Yamaha Musashi Oak snare and it sucked all of the life out of it and made it sound cheaper. If I can implore you, please do not waste your money on this head. It makes great drums sound mediocre and bad drums sound like cardboard. I've had much better luck with the Remo Vintage Ambassador - it gives me clean, bright, articulate sound, and if I need to dampen it in certain situations, a moon gel or two will do the trick perfectly. This was my worst snare head experience EVER.
Coated head with center dot, muffling ring to dampen overtones. Unfortunately while the center dot helps with fatness, the muffling ring somehow - intelligently, muffles the good overtones and spits out the bad ones. Definitely not something a drummer is looking for.
Head went dead inside of 3 months. Bought the head in April of 2011, replaced it with a Vintage A in June of 2011. I couldn't stand the sound any longer, as there was literally about an 80% depreciation of head life in those three months of average regular practice and recording.
Personally, I will never buy this head again. I feel like calling Remo and demanding my money back. I tuned this head high, I tuned it low, I tuned it in between. All I got was an ugly fat crack and some really nasty ruuuuunng. I know how to tune snare heads. I tried purchasing a set of moon gels to put on this already dampened snare head (I know, ridiculous, right?) and all that did was made it sound like a piece of cardboard. Value? Absolutely worthless.

Comments about Remo Powerstroke 3 Coated with Dot Batter:

Anything but Remo. I have had it with their poor quality. I've given them more than a fair chance and they upset me every time.
Muffling ring, power dot, coated head. It has plenty of features that one could write about. However the effacy and length of those short lived features prove that they are not really features at all.
I was able to obtain a useable sound from this head. It provided a nice thunk but was hard to tune. Looking back, I wish I would have spent my money elsewhere, on a better head.

The quality is sickening. I got MAYBE 6 or 7 good practices out of it. Some of those were with rods. Now there's a shiner above the powerdot where the coating used to be. Ridiculous.
Seriously? The value is terrible on these things. Unless you're a player that loves changing heads and has all the time in the world to do so, I would stay away from Remo. All of their heads that I have played wear out fast.

No more ring

Comments about Remo Powerstroke 3 Coated with Dot Batter:

After playing coated Ambassadors on my snare for years, and using all kinds of ugly taped-on stuff to tighten up the sound, I tried a coated Powerstroke 3 for about 6 months. It definitely worked as advertised. No more taped on stuff was required. However, the head was just too dead for me. If you are a straight-ahead 2-and-4 drummer, you might like it a lot. Just not responsive enough for me. Still a good quality product that does exactly what it says.

Comments about Remo Powerstroke 3 Coated with Dot Batter:

I went to the music store in search of a new snare head. The guy suggested this. I play alot of System of a Down, Slipknot, Tool... etc. This made my cheap beginner's snare sound like a 300 dollar snare. I know because I was testing out a whole bunch of snare drums. Just tune it up pretty high and you'll get the sound you're looking for. No need to buy a several hundred dollar snare when you can buy this!

I bought this head after playing on it on a marching snare. it sounded great on that, and i wanted to have that sound on my set snare. I put it on and it tuned up fairly easy, and at first, it sounds pretty good actually, until it BREAKS THE SNARE SIDE HEAD!!! The problem with this head is that its way to powerful for a 5.5X14 snare. IT broke my stock snare side head (made by remo) so i replaced it with a remo ambassador hazy, and it broke that too! all while the powerstroke stays perfectly in tact. I now have to order another new reso head and a head to replace this, because i cant have my heads breaking during gigs. If you are to buy this head, you have to tune it low-lowmid, if you tune it mid-high it has way to much force and breaks the snare side head. I would not buy this head again. Go for an Evans snare head, or the industry standard Coated Ambassador or Emperor instead. Bigger snares, this head might work, but a 14x6 and anything smaller WILL break the snare side. DONT BUY!

Comments about Remo Powerstroke 3 Coated with Dot Batter:

Crack is the sound of this head on my brass 5.5x14 Gretsch crystaltone snare drum. I was contemplating getting rid of the snare on eBay and then as a last result I tried this head and it sounded fantastic. I play live and play out quite a bit and this head still sounds great and it is going on 2 months. That says a lot because normal ambassadors do not last that long. Mine pie pan in the middle and die before the head breaks. This one is great because of the dot and if you do not do a lot of brush work, this head is fine for rock and weekend gigs in louder venues where rimshots abound. Way to go Remo.

I like a really short sound, and these are good depending on what kind of environment they?re in. If you don?t like ring, put these with another head that has as little ring as this. Yes, this head still rings, but something like an ambassador and the P3 rings a lot.

This snare head is amazing!! I was using an Evans snare head before this one, and this one is a gigantic upgrade from it. Evans, in my opinion, is best for toms and definetly bass drums, but for snare, Remo is the way to go. And not just any Remo, but the Remo Powerstroke 3!! It sounds awesome and there is no unwanted over ring at all. It also gives excellent bounce. This is a must have!!

Heavy hitters, best sounding, lasting snare head

        By Mosie

        from California

Comments about Remo Powerstroke 3 Coated with Dot Batter:

This is the best sounding, longest lasting snare head Remo makes for drummers who are heavy hitters! Great sound and tone due to the thinner weight, and coating of the head. It helps to cut thru the mix without becoming too brash, dead or thin sounding. The Dot helps create a good sweet spot as well as re-enforce the middle against dents. The tone is a bit thicker than a coated Emperor, but tuning it up a little tighter than an Emperor gives it a great attack, snap and feel.
